Windows Media Player - "Server execution failed"

0
0
I've had Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 for about a year and my subscription finished yesterday. So I decided to try the trail version of KIS 2013, but it would not install. I kept getting error messages and KIS 2012 would not uninstall either.

This message popped up "A network error occurred while attempting to read from file c:\windows\installer\kavkis.msi."

So I used the Kaspersky Removal Tool and it worked, but now my Windows Media Player does not work. It says "Server execution failed" every time I try to open in it.

Really Need Help

Hey, everyone,

I am a newbie to this forum and joined because I'm not a computer guru just someone who needs help every now and then.

I do a newsletter four times and year and four times a year I get very frustrated. My computer crashed about a month ago and I was unable to reinstall it. I bought a Dell with Windows 7. Windows 7 is not like Windows Vista.

I had been using MS Publisher 2007 and couldn't load it on the new Dell. I purchased Publisher 2010 and, again, it's nothing like the 2007 verision.

My problem is that I'm trying to open the file with my 10 pages of the newsletter and I get a message that the file is locked. I have no idea how it got locked and absolutely no idea on how to unlock it.

Please tell me that someone here can help me. I don't want to redo those 10 pages.

Sandra :whistling:

Hi guys,

I have two laptops and a desktop PC. The two HP laptops (one running W7 Ultimate, the other W8RP) and neither can see iso files. I have some DVDs with ISO files which work perfectly on my desktop and also on other desktops but neither laptop will boot from them nor will they even recognise the DVD as a blank!

I have previously used the DVDs with the ISO files on the laptops without and problems, so why have they gone on strike

Come on guys, all minds together for any usefull suggestions.

Cheers

Update issues

I have some updates that need to be done on my computer. Every time I shutdown the updates run and when I turn it back on it's like they have to finish everything up. Well it gets to about 20% and says that it failed to initialize. My computer then restarts again and then the next time it gets to about 30% and then it lets me login. But the updates are never applied and it does this every time I turn my computer on and off. I've tried running them manually. I'm open to any suggestions.

Audio Problem

Hello pals. My work gave me a computer awhile back and I'm having an issue with audio files I edit.
After producing/saving files I've edited (even on different programs), the first ten seconds of the files become over-modulated/scratchy. After those first ten seconds, everything is clean and clear. While working on files, they don't have the problem. Only after producing/saving them will the problem occur. If I play the edited file on another computer, I can still hear the problem.
If I take the same files and do identical edits on another computer with the same programs, the problem isn't there.
If anyone has a guess as to what this could be or need more infos, lemme know.
Using Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Windows says my audio codecs are up to date.
Programs I use to edit (all of which have the audio poop error):
Sound Forge Pro
Camtasia
Audacity

I click OK and it shuts down then starts back up with the Setup is starting services then back to the same eroor message above. Any suggestions?

Extremely Slow Startup, no Internet Access

Hello folks, first time posting here and hoping to get some help with my problem. Just FYI, I am posting this from my laptop (not the computer with the problem) seeing as that computer is almost unusable in its current state.

I'll try to be as specific as possible until I can get logged on to the other computer and get information you folks may need.

About a day ago, I was searching for mods for Skyrim. My computer had been running perfectly fine and as fast as usual since I could remember before this point. However, in the midst of searching, Google Chrome stopped responding. I tried to start the task manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but nothing happened, so I had to force shut down via the power button.

When my computer starts, one of the fans goes full force before anything on the screen appears, and during this restart I noticed the fan was running at that speed for a significantly longer time than usual. Sure enough, when the "Starting Windows" screen appeared, the little Windows animation didn't appear right away, maybe a minute later it finally showed up. This part of start up took about 5-10 minutes, then the screen went black with just the white mouse cursor in the middle of the screen (was movable), then finally the password entry screen appeared. After putting in the password, another 5-10 minutes went by and was followed by a black screen with a white cursor once again.

Once the computer was started it just was not running nearly as fast as it should, and no matter how many times I have restarted and forced shut down (due to freezes), it will not run the same again. I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, then uninstalled it and installed Avast! and ran that too, with no infections found. Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware didn't find anything but a tracer cookie here or there.

I really don't want to reformat/re-install Windows, but I have in the past. However, something new happened today during one of the black screen phases during start up. In the lower right-hand corner was a message that said Windows 7 - This is not a genuine version (or copy, not sure what it said) of Windows. However, I have the disc and case that I originally bought, CD key and all, and never saw that message before this started happening.

Also, although my internet connection is connected, I cannot get to any sites before the connection times out. Started with the slow startup problem.

My laptop mutes and unmutes itself

Hi, I have a really annoying problem.
My laptop has keys on its keyboard to control volume and it has problems with the mute key.
It mutes and unmutes itself and this happens quite often. My laptop is a medion and uses windows 7. I don't know what other information I have to give about my laptop but if you say what you need and where to find it I will post it here.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but it happens more if my laptop isn't on a solid underground like a desk. Also, it didn't happen when I just had it.
The laptop is only 5 months old.

Ty for reading this and helping me cause it makes me crazy.

Need help connecting Laptop to TV.

Wonder if you could help.

I used bought a tv and can't seem to get it to work as an external monitor. When I connect both with a hdmi cable my tv doesn't respond and my laptop cannot pick it up.

On my other tv, (slightly older) it works fine and auto detects and displays the laptops screen on the television.

When I try to detect the monitor a blank monitor appears saying "Another display not detected" and when clicked it states "Available display output on ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series". On the multiple display drop down menu it suggests "no display connected; or try anyways with on: VGA". which I still cant get to work.

My Tv- Bush 32 Inch HD Ready Titanium Back-Lit LED TV. Reviews, Bush 32 Inch HD Ready Titanium Back-Lit LED TV. Ratings at Argos
(supports 1366x768 which my laptop it set up too)

(The tv has yet to be tuned to any channels theres a problem with my aerial and I was hoping to use my laptop to watch movies for the time being - this shouldn't affect it should it?)

isatsap and network driver help

i cant seem to find anything helpful on my own, important stuff down below if you want to skip my rant

i recently had to change the name on my internet bill, in doing so i had to activate a new account. in order to finish the activation i had to download something and install it(some kind of download manager) well when i downloaded it all h*ll broke lose. my antivirus brought up all these red flags and about five minutes after i got my internet system, my whole computer locked up. eventually it told me that microsoft windows is not responding and asked if i wanted to end the process, at this point i was freaking out assuming that verizon had given me a virus. so i restarted my computer, or tried to. it wouldnt start up, i went through 3 reboots and finnaly got to some start up recovery, which told me that windows was unable to start. well i got through it, and it has only happened once since then. but now i have a new problem

i have no internet and my antvirus wont preform any scans and it refuses to turn my firewalls back on - because it cant connect to the internet

running windows 7 64 on a toshiba sattelite l775d - s7222

all of a sudden i cant connect to the web, all the other computers in the house can. i went in and sure enough im having problems with my network drivers. they are corrupted

isatap one throug four
microsoft teredo tunneling adapter
wan miniport ikev2

ive been on the toshiba/microsoft/freeware sites looking to download these drivers and mostly what ive found is people saying "disable isatap, it doesnt matter" well i did so and it didnt get my internet back. ive also tried reinstalling the drivers from the files within my computer to see if that would help, and theyre still corrupted. i know how to use a computer and fix a lot of things, but drivers and system files are beyond me. i am hoping to find a place where i can download the most up to date drivers AS REPLACEMENTS, but i need to put them on a flash drive to transfer them. it seems that no site is willing to give the files to me, simply because it would solve my problem. ive tried copying the "inf" folder from other computers in the house, but none of them are using the drivers i have. i also learned about system restore today, and i must say its one of the most useless features on a computer. i learned what it does and that it would solve my problem-perfect. when i found it i found out i needed to have made a restore point-.....in the past-......before i had my problem-.......before i knew what system restore was....so that utility is REAL helpful, but only if you know about it i guess

im open to suggestions that dont involve taking my computer apart, or using a backup disc (drive stopped reading discs long ago-hardware issue the ribbon cable coming from the reader got torn, i have no idea how) if you know where i can download these drivers from that would help, but please be specific, i dont want to be rude but please dont tell me to go to microsoft or the toshiba support site, as ive been there and found squat, but
a link to these drivers would be much appreciated

Windows 7 Audio Issue

Hi there,

An audio issue has been an absolute nightmare for me lately and I just can't figure out what causing it.

Before I start though my computer specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

Memory: 4096MB RAM

System Manufacturer: Packard Bell BV

System Model: iXtreme X2712

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1

Display: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series

Sound built-in to the motherboard.

Now I have already have tried common resolutions such as downloading correct drivers for the motherboard from manufacturers website and re-installing Realtek High Definition Audio Driver.

My problem is that my audio will only work if I turn my computer off for about an hour then reboot it. If i restart my comp and don't wait an hour my sound does not work. It doesn't pick up any devices such as my headphones in the playback devices area and Realtek High Definition audio driver does not appear in device manager. Its almost as if I had no sound card at all it just does not work until I turn the computer off and wait an hour and turn back on again.

This is probably the strangest issue I have ever come across and driving me up the wall am I missing something obvious here?
