PC locks after 10mins - No screen saver set or powerplan set

A friends PC locks after about 10mins , and I could not find the setting to stop this activity

NO screen saver is on

The power plan for the PC when on mains , which it was, is all set to NEVER.

She just leaves the PC on , walks away and then when she returns , she get a black screen with "switch user" to log back in

No passwords used, No domain setup - just a domestic windows 7 PC, which when started goes directly to the desktop screen.

where is the setting to stop this happening

I checked against another PC for power options, password on wakeup, but her PC is not set to sleep on any setting, I can see - so that should not be an issue - also as she does not have a password,was not sure it would help

I'm sure its just a simple setting somewhere , i cant find ....

Shes a little concerned because just recently this happened and the PC completely locked , she took to a repair shop, who unlocked, and also said this lockout may have been caused by AVG 2012

so we removed AVG 2012 and put avast on

Hi all

I have a new WIndows 7 PC.
When I was working with some shortcuts to notepad files, I did something
and now all my shortcuts open into notepad files filled with alphanumeric symbols.

This has really messed up my routinee, does anyone know how I can set
it back to the original Windows setting?

Hi guys, last night I ran into a baffling problem, hopefully someone more experienced can shed some light on it.

Build (all brand new parts):
ASUS P8B75-M and i5 3570
1x 8GB Kingston DDR3-1333
Using onboard iGP HDMI output
1x Kingston V300 120GB
3x WD Red 3TB
1x PS/2 keyboard
1x USB mouse
Seasonic 550W Gold

Problem:
Created bootable Win7 x64 image using Rufus in NTFS format for UEFI+BIOS on 8GB thumb drive
Select boot from flash drive using boot device selection menu
Appear screen "Windows is loading files"
Appear Windows 7 logo animation beginning
Immediately after (before logo animation is complete) screen is blanked (but still on)
No response thereafter, no HDD activity either.

Obviously I googled this and it seems like half the universe is having this stupid issue.

Already tried:
Load Optimized Defaults
SATA IDE and AHCI modes
Disable secure boot
Disable quick boot
Disable intelligent fan control
Graphics option Auto and iGP modes
CSM set to Legacy and UEFI modes
Connecting a different keyboard
Connecting a VGA display instead of HDMI TV
Connecting flash drive to rear ports
Disconnecting all drives except SSD
Disconnecting all drives
Burning Windows image to another flash drive
Starting Windows install in safe mode

What should I do now?

Hello
I have a similar problem. My VB6 project can play sounds and handle the volume output if several sound cards, but NOT with the Fireface 400!!. And that is the one I need. I have tried everything (very desperate at this moment because is a work issue). So why I can play the sounds but not handle the volume of Fireface, if for another sound cards I can do it??
My fireface sound card is connected via firewire, and not USB like the others??
Could it be I am missing some DLL or some reference?? (I updated the drivers)

You said Florca that you got it working with windows XP. Could you help with your code?

Hi everybody,

I've been skulking around here searching for a similar problem as mine, but I had no succes. Don't know if this is the right section, if not, I request the mods to move it to the appropiate section.
Here's my problem:
Lately whenever I try to play a game, my pc will freeze showing one colour (could be any kind, most of the time grey/beige) and giving a short loop of sound (so annoying I immediately have to turn the sound off).
The problem actually is almost a year old, but the frequency in which it freezes has become problematic the last month.
1 more thing: there are some rare freezes even when my computer is idle (like strolling the internet + office programs). I'm talking about once every 2-3 months or so..

My specs are (as speccy shows them, nothing overclocked):

All the temps are in idle use.
As some people may already notice from some of the components, I've had this pc since 2009. It also used to run on Vista 64bit Home Premium, but I've updated because it was becoming more and more sluggish.
I fear an unknown component is failing, but I don't know which one. My PSU is 'Cooler Master RS-850-ESBA'

I've tried the Intel Burn test to try to get a freeze, but it does it normally. The only (extremely?) remarkable thing is that the cores reach 100 degrees celcius (according to speccy).
I've tried the Unigine benchmark, which is runs without failing. My GPU goes up to 85-90 degrees celcius pretty quickly, but stays there.
(oh yeah, my GPU came with Farcry 2 which it could run on very high perfectly. 5 years later (now) it can only run it smoothly just under average settings, dunno if that's useful info)

I don't know how to test my psu:uhoh:

I'm receiving a popup message stating that myyzzo.exe is not working and will be shut down.

I did a Google search on the message and can't find that executable. I also see a folder entitled DAABQUA on my "C" drive - This folder is unfamiliar to me.

Appreciate any help you can give as to what this .exe is and whether or not it's dangerous.

I use Truecrypt to manage my data securely on my laptop (Windows 8.1 64-bit).

From time to time, I have a requirement to delete some personal data from the encrypted drive. The files go to Recycle Bin and I then empty the bin.

Is this a security risk, i.e. can data files, deleted from an encrypted drive, be accessed should the laptop be lost or stolen.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section or its a daft question.. but i cant seem to find the answer for myself online

The closest i can find to match this idea would be virtualisation

at home I have a WHS 2011 which manages all of my 5 pc's data (all running windows 7) as they only have the OS and programs installed and its a pain manually updating each pc and the server... yes i can remote desktop into them but it still takes time

Right...

At work we boot into the windows OS and only have the option to log in.. at this time all of our programs and data are loaded from a server and the actual workstation that im using is just a pass through


what i would like to know is... would this be possible to do at home? and if so what would it take?

Having problems with VSC - Volume Shadow Copy in Windows 7 Ultimate. Receive message ("Windows could not start the Volume Shadow Copy service on Local Computer. Error3: The system cannot find the path specified.) Also my backup and restore will not work. Generally the same message. Cannot pinpoint when this started but was probably after installing updates to windows 7. 5/15/2014

Hi there. So I accessed Regedit to try and set the external hard drive as the default. I went to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion then in ProgramFilesDir I changed the default value to my external hard drive.

However, now my computer doesn't seem to recognise my account as Administrator and whenever I try to access Regedit an error screen pops up that says it can't find C:\Windows\regedit.exe. I've looked in my external hard drive and it doesn't seem to be anywhere there.
If someone could help me out here, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks. :)

Hi there!
So i have this desktop computer which i built from an old Acer Predator. The only Hardware left from the old pc is the RAM and the HDD though. I recently swapped motherboards ( I now have the MSI z87-g45 ) and yesterday my pc started to prompt me with my windows not being genuine. I tried to reenter my activation code without much luck. I then watched a video on youtube which told me to download some software to fix the problem. Considering the over 500k views and the overall positive comments, i took a chance. Now after ive run the software (Open 7 activator or something) my pc continuisly boots to Acer eRecovery Management. Ive tried to run the complete factory reset, but the program seems to stop and the pc reboots automaticly while it is "Updating System" . Then it boots up again and prompts me to reset my hdd once again. Anyone know how to fix this? Been considering just reinstalling windows, but it would be nice if i could keep atleast the other partion of my hdd. Thanks in advance :=

Also when I shutdown/restart I am stuck at the logging off/shutting down part.

What could be the issue? How can this be fixed?

My AV avast is not showing Any threats.

When I try to Skype the receiver cannot hear me although I can hear him. I am using the internal microphone on my Windows 7 laptop. I tried to use the echo test through Skype but it did not record my voice. Can anyone help please?

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L750 laptop that was installed with Windows 7 Home Premium but in Spanish.

In Regional Settings, there is no English option to switch to.

I'm under the impression that I can't download the language pack from Microsoft unless I'm on windows 7 ultimate and enterprise.

My question is, if I re-install the laptop back to factory default, will there be an English option there?

when running DxDiag it shows im running Dx11 but under performance and information it shows Dx10 why?

I continue to struggle on with almost minimal hardware requirements and don't often have any issues, I don't do gaming or anything really resource intensive.

I decided that my screenshots are a bit boring and thought I may be able to change them.

Like the title bar/border in the screenshots here; http://www.techsupportforum.com/foru...er-831265.html

It seems that the only way I can change these colours is if I change to Windows Classic view. Not possible, as far as I can see, in Windows 7 themes.

Anyone know if there's a workaround please?

Canon Pixma iP100
Canon BU30 Bluetooth adapter

Printer added successfully as Bluetooth - status shows "Ready"
Bluetooth printing service running
Bluetooth Printing Support is displayed under Bluetooth Radios

Print MS Test Page or anything else and only top half of page prints then printer hangs until it times out

Bluetooth printing works normally from my other computer so I assume printer and dongle are working nominally

Spent 45 minutes with Canon support to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
