Computer Issues Driving Me Up a Wall

0
0
Ello all, I'm having a bit of an issue with my computer.

Anyway, I'm having an issue with my computer, and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it. What will happen is that I'll watch a video (either on Twitch.tv, YouTube, or even Amazon.com) on Google Chrome and everything will be fine. However, after anywhere from 45 minutes to about 2 hours, my CPU usage will spike to 100% (or near 100%) and my computer will lag severely, even after I close the video and web-browser. The only thing that seems to fix this lag is restarting the computer itself via a soft or hard restart.

Things I've done to try to fix this:
-Watched Videos in Firefox (still lagged)
-Uninstalled and re-installed Google Chrome (no effect)
-Disabled built-in Adobe Flash and installed Stand-Alone Flash (no effect)
-Ran AntiX on external hard drive (still had lag)
-Disabled hardware acceleration (No effect)

I strongly believe it is a hardware issue, although I've ran a diagnostic check and nothing was detected, minus an error code saying the Optical Drive couldn't be read. The thing is, my CD-DVD drive is still able to read and write CDs, so perhaps that's relevant. Probably not.

The computer I have is a Dell Inspiron 1564, which I've owned since May of 2010. I have changed out the hard drive and motherboard once, as well as the built-in keyboard, monitor display, and fan with heat-sink. I want to say it's either the CPU or possibly memory, but I'm not sure. If you want a list of specs, let me know (and how to get it, if you don't mind...I don't do this too often), and I'll post them.

Thank you very much for all your help, everyone.

Windows 7 SP1 Repeatedly Failing to Install

I have a HP Pavillion g6 notebook running windows 7 home premium. It is continually failing to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932), giving the error code 80070490. It will successfully download and begin installing the update, then when it restarts, it begins configuring windows and get's to about 8% before failing, at which point it reboots.

I have installed and run System Update Readiness Tool, run SFC /SCANNOW which shows no errors and tried renaming and deleting the contents of Software Distribution folder, all with no success. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Problems With My Other Computer

Now I do not usually use this computer but recently, popups have been common whenever I do the browser "google chome" only. I have a weird home screen which I viewed the source for and I am suspicious if it is a javascript injection like my other computer. The possible injection? (Viewed in page source) Also this further down?:

I have to put this together so it shows:

Edit BCD bootloader to boot from USB

I need help creating a BCD file that will install Windows 7 from my Dell N5110 Laptop Rescue Disk on a USB Flash Drive. My DVD drive wont read a disk, any disk. Of course, I didn't know this till I completely disassembled my laptop to install a SSD and tried to install the OS from the Rescue DVD.

I called Dell and all I could get without paying, I'm a cheap skate, was "Just copy the DVD to a bootable Flash Drive". Easier said than done. After trying a plethora programs (GRUB4DOS, Rufus, Universal-USB-Installer, etc.), that all assume your trying to install from a windows 7 DVD, I gave up. So, I went old school and did the diskpart, bootsect /nt60 route and then xcopy my Rescue DVD to the flash drive. That got me to "BOOTMGR MISSING". Unfortunately, the rescue disk doesn't have a Boot directory with a BCD file. So I copied the Boot dir from my workstation installation DVD to the Flash Drive. Now the the boot manager comes up with "Failed to startup" saying "Required device inaccessible". If I hit enter I get the Boot Loader "Choose OS ... and "Windows Setup" for a selection. When I hit enter again it goes back to the Boot Manager. So, I gather the BCD file from my workstation is the culprit. Below is the current BCD file.

Windows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier: {bootmgr}
description: Windows Boot Manager
locale: en-US
inherit : {globalsettings}
default: {default}
displayorder: {default}
toolsdisplayorder: {memdiag}
timeout: 30

Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier: {default}
device: ramdisk=[boot]\sources\boot.wim,{7619dcc8-fafe-11d9-b411-000476eba25f}
path: \windows\system32\boot\winload.exe
description: Windows Setup
locale: en-US
inherit: {bootloadersettings}
osdevice: ramdisk=[boot]\sources\boot.wim,{7619dcc8-fafe-11d9-b411-000476eba25f}
systemroot: \windows
detecthal: Yes
winpe: Yes
ems: No

In a nut shell I assume I need to:
1. set the "device" to the USB, What do I put there?
2. set the "path" to the Installer. (AUTOCDR.EXE)
3. set the "osdevice" to the same as "device"
4. set Any other necessary settings, What are they?
5. remove any unnecessary settings, What are they?

It's been 3 days to get here and I can almost taste success but, I need help to get the last mile.

Thanks in advance,
RodmanB

P.S. YES, I could just wait till my new DVD drive arrives but, I can't let this beat me.

Issue with recent (KB3079904)

Hi All,

First up a big thank you in advance, I appreciate you guys give your time for free to help others with their issues so thank you for that :pray:

So my issue is with kb3079904 the font security hole.

This got downloaded automatically yesterday and installed successfully but said it needed to restart to complete the change, that went through fine and I got the "Configuring..." message which also completed, but after I restart the system again Vista hangs.

So... it shows the black Microsoft Corp screen and the green blocks, then it moves to the next stage to start loading proper and remains black, I never get to my Vista screen where it asks me to log on.

After 10-15mins I give up and power cycle to try again, it fails again.

Then I start a launch repair, it states it wouldn't start as it has an issue with a patch, does a restore from the restore point and I'm back in business and Vista boots.

Vista see's I need the KB3079904 update, downloads the update and around we go again :)

I've attached my details from Speccy, even though it states KB3079904 has been installed (yesterday) it hasn't as my update history has a later entry showing it has failed.

I know this is a recent patch so.... I understand there may be no quick fix here :)

TIA :flowers:

I dont really know where to get help about this. I downloaded bluescreenviewer. But i dont know what these codes mean. I dont know who to ask for help. I really need help with this. If someone could help me track down what is causing this, it would be much appreciated. I am worried this is going to cause harm to my hardware, since it happens so frequently.
I can post a picture of the blue screen, or upload the minidump file, which ever is easier, just tell me.

BSOD Error Stop: 0124

Hello I've recently been getting BSOD Error code 0124 non stop. I did a quick google search on that that meant and it said it should be a hardware issue. I immediately pulled out and put back in all the RAM sticks and GPU and reconnected some cables that I thought looked loose but I would still get the same BSOD even running in safe mode after a while. I want to take a look at the CPU and check the thermal paste but unfortunately I do not have a screw driver at the moment so I cannot take a look at it. I put the rig together back in August of 2012 and this is not the first blue screen I've had although the other 2 before these ones were short lived and usually a quick reboot would fix the problem. I've just moved into a new place and its a lot more humid/hot in this part of town so that could play a part in the heat issue. I take very good care of my PC and dust cleaned it recently with an air can when my GPU started running slowly and overheating and I have not had any problems since then until now.

TLDR: I turn on my PC it runs on the desktop then as soon as I try to open any type of program or file it BSODs or just black screens and restarts. Error code 0124.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I'm not the best with dealing with these types of problems. I put together my PC with my uncle and haven't taken it apart ever since only to clean out the GPU.

'Limited Or No Connectivity' with Wired Network

Hi TSFians,

Actually I am using win7 (64bit) with wired connection. So all of sudden it stopped recognizing the network and shows "Limited and no connectivity" I have tried the other wired connection as well but same error for all while on those connections other machines with the same built are working fine.

I have tried by replacing NIC driver and clearing winshok entries but all in vain. But when I reimaged one of the impacted laptop it is resolved so obviously it is not hardware or router fault.

Please if you have any suggestion I would appreciate your help.

Thank you!!

My Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) won't update. I've tried following what the troubleshooter tells me to do with no solution. Tried searching for people with similar issues still no solution (tried syncing date and time with time.windows.com).

Some applications close after 50-60 seconds of being open

I'm using a PC with Windows 7.

Yesterday I downloaded Daemon Tools Lite to mount an .iso. Everything went fine until I wanted to modify a screenshot I took, and noticed that MS Paint was shutting down before I could get very far into it. I loaded up Photoshop instead and found the same exact problem occurring.

I did some research and found Daemon Tools Lite is loaded with malware. I downloaded and ran ESET NOD32 which didn't find anything, and then Malwarebytes which did find four things but it said they were "non-malware." I had it remove it anyway. I deleted Daemon Tools and tried to remove the registry residuals but found that regedit was having the same issue MS Paint and Photoshop was. So I downloaded Perfect Uninstaller and ran that and it, as far as I know removed the entire thing.

Rebooted the computer, etc., I can't see any more remains of Daemon Tools.

But the problem persists. So far only these three programs are the only ones I've noticed that have the problem. I can run Internet browsers, Windows Explorer, others.

A weird thing, also, is that if I load up four running instances of MS Paint, they don't all close at once; they close one at a time. I timed them at about 50 seconds between closings.

This is a bizarre issue. I can't figure out what could be wrong. I was using these programs last night.

I had also downloaded some divx player and Opera, but this was for some dumb reason and I deleted those and as far as I can tell they were both long swept out of the system before this issue occurred.

I've ran many programs to try and clean up the weird messes left behind, including rkill.com, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, ADWCleaner, Malwarebytes' Junkware Removal Tool, and ESET Free Online Scanner. I ran OpenHardwareMonitor and everything looked okay as far as temperature and CPU/RAM usage.

Finally, I opted to do a system restore. Interestingly, the System Restore is affected by this problem, too. After about a minute, it closes. I can't restart in Safe Mode normally because my laptop's keyboard doesn't work so I use this wireless keyboard but it only works when Windows is loaded, so I had to use msconfig to boot it into safemode and found that msconfig is also affected by the issue. Still, I managed to get it all done within the 50 or 60 seconds until the program closed.

Reset the computer, got it into Safe Mode, and found the problem does NOT exist in Safe Mode. I ran the System Restore to the 21st, which is three days before this problem started and got that all set up.

But the problem still exists! It doesn't seem to affect Firefox or any other browser, it doesn't affect notepad or wordpad or OpenOffice. But I don't know what programs it does and doesn't affect -- there doesn't seem to be any correlation that I can perceive. Photoshop, MS Paint, regedit, msconfig and System Restore are the ones I've discovered so far.

Fresh Win7 Install on new ssd, screen freezes cursor still moves

Hi,

I replaced my old HD with a new SSD and installed Win7sp1. Now I sometimes get BSOD flashes followed by a restart.

The most serious problem though is that the system frequently locks up. Nothing functions except the cursor. Happens very randomly.

I'd rather not go through the whole ordeal of reinstalling windows as it took a Microsoft tech remoting in to put through the windows authentication. Please help.

Thanks,

Courtenay

Accessing BIOS in Windows 7 starter

I have an ASUS netbook running Windows 7 starter. I want to put Linux on it, but I am not able for some reason to access the BIOS. Is there any particular reason you can't access the BIOS from Windows 7 starter? Could there be any other reasons why the normal method of accessing the BIOS doesn't work? If so is there any way round them?

Myserious lack of space

I created a bootcam partition on a Mac with over a 100GB, I have put almost nothing on it but a few programs, and yet it says that there are only 30 gigbaytes free. I have right-clicked every main folder in the hard drive section to check their properties, and yet none are larger than 20 or 30 gigabytes. How do I find out what file or files are taking up so much space and why wouldn't the space they take up show in the properties section of whatever main folder they would fall under?

Cannot install Chrome (and other software) updates on Win 7

Hello TechSupport's kind volunteers:

I'm running Windows 7 and for months now I haven't been able to install chrome updates, Google Drive for desktop, Mozilla updates, etc.

When I try to run Chrome Setup, nothing happens and if I try to install from scratch is says error 7 and error 103: the first one relates to the application folder and the latter to the file "expand.exe" being missing.

Advice?

Thank you so much

So I have removed my old Windows 7, which was corrupted by 2 viruses, and...
I need to "kill" the bootup window which is left over, after that.

That bootup window is made by Windows 7 OS and is NOT uninstalled (...after formatting that section).

P.S. I am on my standard XP.
