ntoskrnl.exe - my boot-nemesis

Hi there.

Recently I've been experiencing some boot issues with my pc. Searching the web didn't really help - I think it's a specific problem and hope you can help me with it.

In June I decided to build a custom pc for my home office - a render machine, with some nice-qualitiy parts:

. Main _ MSI X99A SLI Plus
. CPU _ Intel Core i7-5820K, 6x 3.30GHz + be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3
. GPU _ EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+
. RAM _ G.Skill RipJaws 4 schwarz DIMM Kit 32GB [using a default MSI XMP-Profil in BIOS]

. SSD _ Crucial MX200 500GB
. SATA _ Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 1TB

. CASE _ be quiet! Silent Base 800
. PA _ be quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W

. OS _ Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit

While working i never experinece freezes or other problems. But sometimes the pc crashes in the boot-phase. After searching a bit, I found out how to turn off the 'automatic restart after boot crash' option. I also installed a prog, called BlueScreenView, the readings of which allways show a certain ntoskrnl.exe to be at the root of all problems. Here you can see all the latest readings:

10.07. | KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED [0x0000001e] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40]
02.08. | PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA [0x00000050] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40]
03.08 | BAD_POOL_CALLER [0x000000c2] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40]
04.08 | BAD_POOL_HEADER [0x00000019] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40] / fltmgr.sys [fltmgr.sys+4785]
07.08 | BAD_POOL_HEADER [0x00000019] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+1a9cbe] / NETIO.SYS [NETIO.SYS+3fc7] / tcpip.sys [tcpip.sys+1443e0]
12.08 | PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA [0x00000050] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40]
14.08 | PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA [0x00000050] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40]
15.08 | PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA [0x00000050] | ntoskrnl.exe [ntoskrnl.exe+72a40] / Wdf01000.sys [Wdf01000.sys+cd4c]

As you see, the boot-problems don't occur by every system start. I use the PC every day, but the boot fails happen just randomly. Or am I wrong?

I would be really glad if you could help me with this issue, because it's a problem beyond my competence.

Thanks in advance.

Hello all. I'm wanting to copy files from one user account to another. I'm confused about step 7 that Microsoft says to do Fix a corrupted user profile - Windows Help
These are the files that I am seeing. Not for sure which ones I should copy and which ones I shouldn't.

Hangup (stuck) at desktop

First let me mention what I have:
Windows 7 Home premium on a newly installed hard drive inside a Toshiba laptop satellite P755-S5215. Has about 300 gb harddrive with 6 gb ram, 64 bit operating system.

Had a computer tech put this together for me with a supposed 1 year warranty, which he doesn't seem to be too helpful about.
We have had up until very recently a very poor wireless connection, but the kids have managed to play internet games like club penquin. The laptop was sticking while on line and our tech said our connection was the problem. So we decided to pay the extra and get our 7 mbps connection in our home. This seemed to help much, except now the laptop hangs off line just as soon as we log onto the desktop. Forget about getting to the firefox icon, the cursor is usually unmovable before we even get there.

Would someone please let me know if we have to take this back to our uncooperative tech for a hardware issue or is there something we can do?

exe. files in Downloads folder disappeared in Windows 7

I have a Dell Inspiron M5040, 4GB, Windows 7, Avast Internet Security, ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium. All of a sudden, all the exe. files I had from different programs I have installed in my computer are no longer in my Downloads folder; however, the programs themselves are still installed & working. I have already ran a virus check, but nothing. Would appreciate someone's help with this matter to restore the exe. files.

Problem with downloading .exe-files

Hi
It often occurs to me problems with downloading executable files from the net. I start the download, select a directory (often Desktop) and after a while sometimes it halts saying that the file cannot be saved in that directory, even though it have already started downloading for several seconds.

The harddrive has plenty of space, I have an admin account running, I have write rights as far as I know (not exactly sure how to check it for sure). When the problem occurs I try to put it in a different directory, most times it works but sometimes it wont accept that directory either.

I never had this problem in Windows XP.

Another question about executables, when trying to remove a folder with an executable file in, it cant be done until I have removed the executable file. Any other files in it is okay but the executable makes it think it is in use and folder cant be removed... Any solution for these problems?

Thanks in advance!

Removing Dell Bloatware

Hi All

I have a one year old Dell T3610 running Windows 7 pro. It is sometimes very very slow and I think I have identified the culprits. I have discovered Dell, in there infinite wisdom have installed various "security and backup features". The problem is they did not tell may they were installed when I got the machine, or what any were for.

I have removed all those that appear in Programs & Features/Uninstall (I in fact use Revo Uninstaller). However there are 5 others which do not appear (see screenshot attachment). I have tried just switching them off in services, but this just screws my start up (it asks for my bio-metric imprint, bit scary!).

So what I need is some way of uninstalling these interlopers. I have come across some freeware programs which claim will do the job, but don't really trust these, unless anyone has any experience with such programs? Ideas would be useful please (simple ones is possible!). Thanks

Windows 7 randomly freezes

Recently I discovered that out of nowhere, my PC would freeze for about 10-15 seconds after a very distinguishable noise. It is exactly the same noise that my PC makes after I shut it down (after this noise the PC is completely off and has no power). The noise doesn't come from the speakers or anything, but directly from the PC itself. So I'm getting this noise every 2 minutes and immediately after its occurance, my PC freezes. I can move the mouse about yet I can't open anything, can't select any icons and sometimes it would freeze the movements of the mouse as well. What could be causing this ?

Windows 7 (reverted from upgrade to win10

I upgraded to win10 from win7 and started having a problem so I reverted back to win7. The problems from the upgrade followed me back with the revert to win7. The problems have to do with files and folders. I cannot create a file (doc) and save it to my documents file folder. I get a message "you don't have permission to save to this location" contact administrator. Incidentally, I'm the only user of this computer and always have been. I also get a message when trying to open an existing file " document file is locked for editing by (me or unknown user)
I'm totally confused not knowing how to get by this "file locked for editing" and "administrator privilege" needed.
Please tell me how to get around this.
Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

A Few Problems

Notebook Problems. Gateway NV7921u; Win 7 Home Premuim 64 Bit.

Shutdown during high CPU load:

- Will shut down without notice.
- Usually during high CPU load such as Win Update or multiple programs/browsers trying to do something.
- CPU overheat possible?
-- If so, canned air? Had a problem with another notebook where this did no good.
-- Fan appears to be running normally, and can be heard changing speeds.
-- Is there a free *trusted* and reliable CPU temperature monitoring utlility?

Taskbar Power Status Indicator inaccurate:
- Power status icon on Taskbar will show the follwing:
-- When plugged in an running on AC with battery charged: 'Fully Charged 100%'
-- When unplugged, running on battery: 'Plugged in, Not Charging' (Does not recognize that charger is unplugged.) Battery charge percentage counts down as normal and will run on battery for nearly an hour despite being a five year old battery. Will not do a low power orderly shutdown however (set for 10%), simply goes dark/off.
-- When pugged back, power restored: Plugged in, Charging (battery charge percentage counts up).

Bootup/BIOS screen:

- During bootup, when Gateway splash screen appears, there is only about a 2 second delay to select F2 or F12
- This was nearly 30 seconds until just recently.
- "Control Panel - System - Advanced System Settings - Start up and Recovery - Time to display list of operating systems" is set to 30 seconds.
- Don't why the delay is gone or how to restore it.

(And no, I don't believe all the Usernames I tried are taken  :hide: )

Slow Pc, no idea why?

I'm trying to fix a slow computer and I honestly can't figure out what's going on.

The Read/write speed of the HDD is fine, there's no HDD errors, no blue screens. It takes a little while to boot up (few mins), once you're in it's slow to get things going, it's goes fast then slow. I ran the WD disk diagnosis tool and everything was fine, same with DiskCheckup, it returned nothing alarming.

This shouldn't be happening on a PC with this much power

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
8GB RAM
Core i7 870 @ 2.93GHz

HDD isn't clogged up, no failure to boots. Nothing worth noticing in the event viewer, I did a defrag and it sped up a little bit. It's not so slow now because of that but it's still not as quick as it should be most definitely.

I've issues in the past with Computer's experiencing thrashing so I disabled the page file, nothing changed.

The CPU and RAM usage ins't spiking either, neither is the disk usage near 99% or 100% (I've experienced issues related to incredibly high disk usage which was the cause of ridiculous lagging). I also ran CCleaner.

I've run MBAM and only picked up a few things, nothing major. I have a feeling it could be malware because if the hard disk was failing there would be symptoms of it. The read/write speeds are incredibly normal, I'm just utterly baffled.

I tried doing a system restore to a week ago but the restore failed so I don't know if that's got anything to do with it, anyway.

I'm gonna reinstall the drivers and see if that makes a difference, hopefully it fixes it.

Anybody have any ideas?

I am using a HP pavilion dv7 laptop and for some reason lately when I try to type something it will all on it's own start typing w's, I am talking about a Huge string of them and sometimes it will do it when I hit any key. I thought maybe it was a virus and didn't have anything important on my laptop so I restored it back to factory settings but it is still doing it. I thought that it could be the w key sticking but It has done the weird thing when I have hit the d key among others. So now I am hoping you can help figure this out.

Many thanks ahead of time for your help.

W7-S1 Security System Failure

My Security Center and Windows Update have been down and out for awhile. When I try and open, I receive an error message. I think it is due to a recent virus or trojans... Anyhow, I'm pretty computer savvy... and I went into services, and checked the security settings... everything is fine, until I started checking the dependencies.

The "DCOM Service Process Launcher" isn't giving me the option in the "log on" to choose "This Account". It is the only dependency that differs from the others.

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is configured correctly, but also doesn't give me the option of changing network "log on".

Windows Management Instrumentation is configured correctly... but does give me the option of changing "log on".

RPC endpoint Mapper is configured correctly.

Can't start base filtering service. It ends with access is denied error

As the title says, I can't seem to start the base filtering service. every time I try, it ends up with the same 'access is denied' error. I have poked around on the Internet for this error, found multiple solutions on different sites, but none seems to have worked for me, so here I am starting my own thread.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HDMI won't display but vga/dvi will? so stressed!!

The pc will output to vga/dvi fine. It will not output to HDMI at all. I have tried 4 cables, 2 TV's 2 monitors. It just won't.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling NVIDIA drivers for the graphics card.
I booted into ubuntu live cd with dvi, it worked, switched from dvi to HDMI, and HDMI no display.

I removed the graphics card from that PC and put it into my own PC which usually runs a gtx 760 so it has up-to-date NVIDIA drivers. Boots up fine with dvi, switch to HDMI...nothing.

This PC is usually hooked up to a TV using HDMI, it was worked yesterday. I have no idea what's wrong with it and I'm incredibly stressed. Can anyone please help? The only way this lady can use this is via HDMI because it's hooked up to some intermediary transceiver for her tv/audio system.

The only thing I can possibly think of is buying a DVI to HDMI cable/adapter and she uses the DVI side on the PC and the HDMI side into her transceiver (she uses an aux cord into the transceiver for audio regardless so HDMI audio isn't needed).

I think the HDMI port is broken but I just can't believe it's gone overnight. Any thoughts/input, anyone?

Connectivity problems with wifi

Hello. I wonder if anyone can help me at all please?

My son's laptop running Windows 7 crashed a while back and the icon at the bottom of the screen showing internet connection and available networks disappeared. He was originally able to get on the home network which the laptop knows but unable to connect to any other wifi elsewhere even via control panel or BT desktop help. Now he seems either not to be able to connect, or if he can it runs really slowly. Tried system restore without success.

I'm imagining it's a Windows problem. Could the crash have been due to a virus? Is there any way to restore the connectivty ourselves without having it repaired by an expert?

Many thanks for any advice

Failure configuring Windows updates

Hello everyone.

Recently I have beend installing updates on my PC that runs on Windows 7 Ultimate. Three days ago it was rebooting as usual but then this erros message shows up " Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer ". So as recommended I didn't turn off the computer and just waited. After a while I went to bed and left my PC on overnight to see if the problem would be solved by the morning. It wasn't so I just pressed the power button for 5 seconds and restarted my PC. Since then I haven't been able to acces anything since it just stays on that error for hours.

Starting up in safe mode doesn't solve anything.
I've read somewhere that pressing F8 before the Windows logo shows up brings up a booting menu where I can choose some repair option. When I press F8 I just get a windows where I can pick 2 options which I guess is the hard drive and something else, but that does't solve my problems. I also don't own any sort of repair discs or flash drives.

Any help would be apreciated.

If something isn't clear enough just ask and I will try my best to explain myself (English isn't my native language).

Thanks in advance
