It appears Internet Explorer is not working correctly. When I open explorer and go to a site, a window pops up and says that my PC is infected with a virus and is at risk and to call a 1 888 339-6907 number. The message says this is a free service from micro soft operating system security essentials warning - internet explorer. The window cannot be closed, even using ctl, alt, delete keys. I have to shut the computer off and re-start. The window says the message in audio as well.

Windows 7 Freezing on startup
Hey guys,
My sister-in-law messaged me the other day, saying her mothers laptop is doing something out of the ordinary, only I can't seem to put her in the right direction with how to fix it.
She did some windows updates, then 2 days later went to use the laptop (it hadn't been touched since the windows updates) after windows signs in it freezes on desktop and the windows login sound is frozen and looping.
She has tried windows system restore, to no avail. It keeps saying "System restore failed to extract the file (C:\) from the restore point. An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x8000ffff)"
A clean boot fixed the login/freeze issue, but how do you determine what the cause of the problem is?
I'm guessing the answer is "Enable one item at a time until it doesn't boot properly"?

A long time ago I used a program called vistalizor to change the language of my copy of w7 home edition from French to English. As a result it stopped being "genuine", and as such I cannot reserve w10.
Later I read that using an oem key for w7 ultimate would help, and now I'm stuck with ultimate (non genuine of course), with no way to downgrade.
I have several keys for w7, w8 and w8.1 professional (English ones) from my university's dreamspark that all could work for legitimizing my copy, then getting w10 from there, but windows doesn't support downgrading, and id rather not have to use them considering my French one is perfectly valid.
So, questions;
Does w10 still have the language limitation on non ultimate copies, or could I use my French key and have w10 in English legitimately?
If I have to use one of my university keys, whats the best way to do so, while keeping my programs and settings intact?

Drive /C: is corrupt, but I'm currently using it?
Hello all! I have a weird issue. I wanted to do a full back up of my system, so that if/when my SSD dies, I can just restore this to the new one. Well I just recently updated my back up, which worked flawlessly last time. But this time Windows told me some files didn't make it. So I checked it out. It gave me an error log which states:

Some things to note: My file libraries are aliased on a separate mechanical drive, they always have been and Windows Backup never gave me any problems because of it. The SSD is a Samsung 256gb 840 PRO (with about 4.5tbs of writes) and the backup drive is a Seagate 1tb (less than 5 years old). Also since my last back up, there has been some power outages during computer use. I read somewhere running chk dsk /F is bad to do on SSD's, so out of fear I stopped it from ever doing that. Is that wrong and is that all that could fix it? Also my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Thank you all in advance.

strange windows 7 update with no updates
nothing serious, just a strange little problem i've noticed recently.
when clicking the start menu, I always see the icon that says an update is required on shutdown, which i click. there is absolutely no indication that any update is taking place, and when I run update manually, there is nothing available. I've tried researching similar problems but everyone seems to say that there's an update that fails for whatever reason. I do not have this issue though which is why I can't understand what's happening.

I have Pinnacle 14 Studio Ultimate Collection on my windows 7 platform and have the Pinnacle 700usb device attachment hub attached to my computer as well, and regardless of what I do when trying to import video to capture from my old VCR or Vid Cam I keep getting the no video signal error. In the menu of studio 14 the pinnacle 700usb device is in orange and connected displayed as working fine. In the device manager of control panel same applies, all good. Have changed the leads, checked connections, made sure all in right in locations out /in etc but still nothing, except no video signal!
Any ideas as what could be going wrong here would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nuts!!

Wont Boot, need disc/iso to make disc.
Hi, a buddy of mine's POS laptop isn't booting since he lent it to his friend. (Great friend huh?)
It's got Vista home premium, I've had a play with it and it wont boot in safe mode, the recovery tool fails, he has no restore points, and it's basically bricked. (BIOS sees the hard drive, the memory test tool doesn't report any problems, so HD is fine as far as I can tell)
He's happy to lose his C: drive, and I'm not willing to spend any effort on it. However, he's not happy to spend any cash on it, which is a problem because he doesn't have a windows disk.
The hard drive also doesn't have a recovery sector.
Is there a way to legally download Windows Vista? If I'm going to go through the effort of pirating a copy of Windows Vista, to then use a legal key he has stuck to bottom of it, then I might as well just download a OS that isn't terrible tbh.
So yeah

How to reinstall Windows 7, the correct way.
Download your ISO Image from Microsoft.

You'll need your OEM product key, Verify your key once entered it'll tell you what version of windows you're entitled to. (x86) = 32 bit - (x64) = 64 bit.
Download both (ISO's) if you wish.
Find the manufacturer and model of your motherboard and devices inside your computer.
Visit the manufacturer's website and download all the drivers you need.
(FAIR WARNING)
DO NOT USE DRIVER UPDATE PROGRAMS They will screw your computer up beyond belief.
(Advice)
Save all your drivers to a flash drive if you own one, then install windows on another flash drive.
Rufus is by far the best to put windows on your flash drive.
Download Rufus - MajorGeeks
Once you've got everything downloaded and saved and windows on your flash drive. You'll need to find a program called Acronis, many people already own this program. It'll help you make back up's and wipe your hard drive or SSD. Acronis comes with a boot disk that will help you wipe your drive's its called Acronis secure erase.
Once you've booted Acronis make sure the program loads Acronis, press up on your keyboard arrows till you are on Acronis and press enter it'll load up. Once it loads, to the left and down you'll see Tool's and Utilities. Then to the right all the way down you'll see Acronis Drive Cleanser, Click on that find your hard drive and wipe with either (DOD) or (Fast) depending on what level of data destruction you wish for. It could be a few hours.
Now you've wipe your drive it's now time to re-install Windows 7.
Press (F2) while when your computer is starting up and boot from your USB flash drive. Do a custom install of windows and not upgrade you want your install to be clean. You might have to delete the partition, after that create new partition then format partition which takes about 5 whole secs.
Your Windows 7 OS will start installing, more than likely take about 25 30 minutes.
Now you have your OS installed, start installing your drivers. Audio, Chip set, Graphics, USB, Sata.
(NOTE)
I believe you might have to flash your Bio's for some newer chip sets.
After that you're ready to start enjoying Windows 7.

Windows Update error 80070490 (from WindowsUpdateDiagnostic); sfc & CheckSUR clean.
Hi,
After several failed attempts to upgrade my HP dv6-3108ea laptop to Windows 10 I was checking all the troubleshooters suggested on online forums and WindowsUpdateDiagnostic reports error 80070490, which it cannot fix.
This was not the first time I had run it; I have tried the upgrade around 5 times and between them I checked and this error was not found. I had resigned myself to continuing with 7 for the time being (as I am going back to uni next week and need a working laptop) but found this error and want to fix it!
sfc /scannow and the system update readiness tool report no errors, CHKDSK is clean, MemoryDiagnostic is clean. I tried restoring to an earlier point in case recent updates had caused this (to a point where I knew the error wasn't present). Despite reporting that system restore had failed (error 0xc0000022) this appeared to work and it temporarily removed the error. However, when I ran Windows update again today and ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic it had returned.
If it helps the error reports on the Windows 10 upgrade were dominantly c1900101-40017 but included 80240055, 8000FFFF, 8024001E and 80070057, as well as initially giving reports to failed updates for Intel Management Engine Interface and Realtek PCIe Family Controller.
Please find the attached the CheckSUR and CBS logs. Unfortunately I had to split up the CBS log as otherwise it was too big to attach. Sorry for the long post!

My husband plays this game and hasn't had any problems until the latest Windows update.Trying to find out which update so we can "hide" it so he can continue playing the game. Cannot access certain websites & offline programs

the issue I'm having is difficult to describe, because of it's weird nature. I've spoken to numerous IT specialists and all failed to come up with a solution. A clean Windows 7 install did NOT fix this problem.
I formatted only my system partition and not my other one.
I have 3 computers on the same LAN. None of the others experience the same problem, which leads me to believe the problem is local.
I cannot access certain websites, or they load improperly. The issue extends to all browsers. I can ping google normally, but when I try to access gmail I get unusual behavior (attached a screenshot below).
I haven't found all websites that don't work, but I have problems on most google services, facebook etc. I can normally ping them and I get a very smooth response.
Trello.com for some reason will not return an answer and I cannot access the website. It works fine on my android phone and other computers connected to the WiFi.
I also have a problem with VLC media player. When I run clips it will show just a blank window screen, but the audio will play normally.
I used Avast boot scan, it found some issues, fixed them but didn't resolve my problem.
I tried a scan with Spybot S&D with a similar result. I did however get an error when I tried to update Spybot's virus database.
Does anyone know what else can I try?

MSI A6200 limited access to internet

Computer keeps waking itself up
I've been putting my computer to sleep at night rather than turning it off because it saves my session and it also boots up faster. I shut it down when it requires updates and such, or when I know I won't be using it for a long time.
Recently, every time I put my computer to sleep, it will stay asleep for a little over 3 minutes (I got so frustrated I timed it), then wake up, stay awake for about as much time, and then go back to sleep. It repeats this process until I either shut it off or wake it up and start using it.
I've already turned off all the mouse & keyboard's abilities to wake up the computer, I've changed the wake timer settings, and I've tried the command prompt. "powercfg -lastwake" says that the last wake was from a wake timer from svchost.exe, which is very puzzling since I've set the wake timer from its ridiculous automatic 3am update check to 12pm. "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" says literally nothing.
