I am currently running windows 7 and am constantly being asked to download a free version of windows 10.
I know of several people who have downloaded win 10 and experienced no end of difficulties.
Is win 10 that special and better than win 7 to warrant downloading it please?

I'm not sure how to update things like this, the only updates I do are through "Windows Update" that's all I know how to do...which I know seems bad.
Can anyone please tell me how to regularily update other things like graphics driver...and what else am I missing/should be doing?

I am considering upgrading to Windows 10 (having had a brief and unhappy experience with a machine loaded with W8) so I decided it was time to try out the back up facility on this W7 machine (I have been doing partial backups on a local caddy-based HDD).
There is an icon on the Desktop marked "Backup", but this seems only to open a blank Notepad screen, so I took a deep breath and selected Dell Backup and Recovery. Unlike the Backup facility in XP, this didn't seem to offer a choice of backup location except Cloud (which I didn't want) so I went ahead. It took nearly an hour, and eventually finished but without indicating where the new backup file was located. Where did it go? I can't seem to find it!!
If I migrate to Windows 10 will I lose everything that is currently on the Desktop?

I am having minor irritating problems with Windows 7. Left clicking on a drop down menu does not stabilize until the third click i.e. the menu flashes up x 2 then stabilizes.
Has anyone any ideas? Most grateful for help.:ermm:

I have a HP desktop with Windows Credentials and it won't fill in passwords and user names in websites.
I must tell you I haven't used Windows Credentials in the past because I had an antivirus which had a "Safe" which kept these things and it worked really well. However, I was having some real problems setting up a homegroup (which has now been solved) and one of the things suggested to me by those who were helping me work out this Homegroup problem, was to switch my antivirus to Windows Essentials, which I did.
When I uninstalled this other antivirus that had the ID Safe, and went with Windows Credentials, I found Windows Credentials wouldn't work at all. It never fills in the user names and passwords for any website.
Just as a comparison, I have a HP laptop (running Win 8.1), which is now part of my new Homegroup, and I never have any trouble with Windows Credentials, now or before, filling in user names and passwords.
I'm killer on keeping up with all updates on both my PCs, as I think of them like a car......to keep a car in shape you need to do regular tune-ups, oil changes, and other maintenance procedures to keep it running in tiptop condition, and the same with my PCs.
I think you'll find the necessary information on the desktop in the little blue arrow on the side where it says My System...<<<

Okay, so I bought some new stuff and trying to set it up to work properly.
My TV is a 55" Sony Bravia 2015 model ..."KDL-55w800c" --- It is Wifi ready and uses Miracast to screen mirror to my Android phone and tablet (Galaxy S5 and some random tablet)

I can screen mirror from my phone and tablet perfectly...awesome!
My issue, is I can't get it to work on my computer.
So heres my specs:
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64bit.
CPU: AMD FX 6100 6-core.
GPU: XFX Radeon R7 260 2gb DDR5
Ram: 16gb 1600mhz
It's not cutting edge, but it's fairly modern.
I'd like to be able to PC game and watch movies/tv shows that are on my computer, on my new tv.
I don't think miracast is "installed" on this PC, and the AMD thing "AMD Screen Mirror" or "AMD Wireless Display" tools are not in my catalyst control center, nor installed on this PC in any way.
I can't seem to find ways to download any of these solutions to make the connection work.....am I dead in the water here? I'd like really like some insight and maybe some help getting this working!

Hi there!
As of a few weeks back, I noticed I was no longer able to install some programs. This was due to the 'Windows Installer Service could not be accessed' error, and was usually accompanied by a 1601 or 1708 error code. I tried many methods to try and resolve this issue (Re-registering the installer service, cleaning the registry values etc) but was to no avail. I began to delay this issue, and more problems rose to my attention. These included the 'The ordinal 304 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll' error, that is alerted to my computer several times upon opening a program. Besides the Installer Service issue, the other problems seemed to arise after I had began downloading updates for Windows, despite the fact I am now also unable to scan for windows updates. I came to the conclusion that a windows repair from a usb boot drive might be the best option here, unfortunately I was unable to select an operating system in the system recovery section despite activating the correct partition via cmd.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Dell Inspiron 560 window 7 will not get on the internet the speaker has a red x on it when i click on something it says unknown hard drive on this computer. when i put my reinstall disk in a error comes up.

I have recently downloaded Bitlocker. The Install all went through OK and told me it was completed. I successfully (I think) set up a new Drive and put a couple of folders with files in there. I was then able to access the folder and files, no problem.
Now (since I restarted my computer, I think) the drive and folders are gone. I have run a number of searches but cant locate them.
How can I get them back??

Microsoft did an update today(11-11-15) and now desktop gadgets won't work. As it tries to load it says it stopped working. I've rebooted many times with the same results.
Everything was fine when I went to bed last night. When I woke up the computer rebooted(it was at the login screen). I have updates set at 3am.
I hate to do restore. Are there any other options? From what I've seen most are security updates...some Microsoft framework, others are office 2010 security.
It's roughly 40-50 files.
I like the gadgets and would hate to see them go.

Windows startup repair appears whenever i try to start up my computer, it says it can't be fixed automatically. It was working fine previously until i started playing fallout 4 then it wouldn't turn on so i took out all of the power sockets and plugged them back in and it worked in the way taht it could get to startup repair but never any further, these are the problems startup repair finds.

sir i am using window 7 ultimate and i have updated it online and then smhow my window crashed due to lot of games and other softwares installing and uninstalling so i have again installed my windows and updated it.
I want to ask how can i extract the installed updates and make it to bootable dvd so every time i reinstall windows i need not to go online and update window as it takes lot of time and hassle.
Please reply soon sir.

I'm using a borrowed extremely old computer win 7 professional service pack 1 and 32 bit) while mine is in the shop.
It hasn't been used in 2 years and windows update and MSSE won't update. It is activated, I checked.
I did uninstall and reinstall MSSE; hoping it would update easily after being reinstalled. But it's been running update by itself for well over an hour and not getting anywhere.
I've tried to get both to update today most of the day and neither is able to find updates and just runs and runs.

So I tried to do a Windows update, it failed, then my whole computer crashed. It won't start at all. I don't really have money to replace any of this and I've tried to fix it multiple times.

I tried to install a program and it says the window installer is not work
I went on as a adminastator in cmd and typed net start msiserver
cmd gave me this message
the service cannot be started either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it
I am just trying to install an ad block software

Hi,
In previous Windows versions I always saved new items and downloads on the desktop or in folders in desktop.
However, with Windows 7 the option to save to Desktop is not as straightforward as before.
When using Save as... it always appears in the Libraries folder.
Before the Desktop, among other default save to locations appeared as big icons to the left of the dialog window but now it feels annoying to even access the Desktop as a save location.
I know I probably sound very lazy and so but I want the old feature to go back. I dont have any option to downgrade to Windows XP or anything so I have to stick with this annoying feature.
Since my primary language is Swedish the dialog winows might look different but I provide at least some screenshots here.
