Hibernate issue

$
0
0
So, i have this weird problem with my Windows 7 Pro. 64Bit laptop, recently hibernate has started playing up.
Often when i try to hibernate instead it just locks the screen.
Diagnosing with task manager, it seems to happen at a variable level, but when memory usage is over somewhere between 4-6 GB - annoying when my typical workspace ends up at 5-6GB used.
If i run shutdown -h in the command prompt i get an Insufficient space error(8) - excuse the wording not being exact, until it 'randomly' happens again for me to copy.
Closing applications will solve it - if enough are closed, but that very much defies the point of hibernating, if i have to close things anyway.
Yet C: has plenty of space ~258GB free for a 8GB memory machine.
only other drive is D: and that also has over 50GB free, and shouldn't be an concern since it's a different OS.
I did a bit of digging and found that the hiberfil.sys is only 75% by default - so i set it to 100%, but this didn't help.

Anyone have any ideas? i've been in IT a while, and never seen this issue before, and have been unable to find a fix on google(Even found it very hard to so much as get pertinent results)

Folder Won't Delete for Administrator

Running Win 7 Pro I have discovered that I can't delete some folders that are marked 'Read Only'. I appear to have full permission with these folders and I am the administrator. I can uncheck the read-only box but that doesn't seem to stick. How can I fix this?

Ok here goes, i have windows 7, AOL's latest ver., etc. Why does AOL so called Top Speed act like it's in a losing race with a snail ? It takes so long to load videos, ads etc, that by the time I can actually read the article I no longer really care.

Heard that running sfc /scannow from elevated prompt could help. Ran it, some files remained corrupted. I have attached the output log.

I have been having trouble with windows NSI service these last few months, the service hogging memory and up to 50% CPU. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. When I went casually checked out the log, I noticed the word 'telemetry' which made me think that perhaps the corrupt files had to do with those microsoft updates that dealt with data collection that I had not installed and hid. Those 3 hidden updates are KB-3068708, 3075249, and 3080149.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

32Bit Windows 7 Ram question

Hello all,

I recently purchased a laptop for my aunt(66) as her laptop is very slow, horrible processor/memory. This one is a E6430(dell) , i5 with 4gb of ram. I just updated it from Windows 7 to 10, didn't even notice though that it is 32 bit which I think is the problem, but Windows is saying it can only utilize 2.92/4GB which is really crappy I think. Is this because of 32bit or something else?

If it's b/c of 32 bit, I can wipe that out and install Windows 10 64bit I guess? If I do that, will everything work after? I don't have any discs although I can make one if absolutely needed, not sure if I do this if my USB's will work, or if the drivers will all be crappy and I won't be able to connect to wifi and etc.

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: just noticed I've been on this forum 10 years. Crazy!

MSTSC fails to start after computer wakes

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The short of it is that I have after multiple PCs here which, when they wake from sleep, RDP is not opening. You can click the shortcut, the computer thinks, no gui opens, however there is a process that shows from it in task manager. I try using everything to kill said processes (taskkill, pskill etc...), however the only thing that will allow you to open an RDP window again is a reboot. I do get an error when adding the /T trigger to taskkill: "Cannot kill the process, there is no running instance of the process." There are no errors in the logs, and no where have I found a solution. I am stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

To clear up any questions, I have already tried (among other more obvious solutions): Clean boot, all Microsoft patches I could find pertaining to this, update of all drivers, reload associated dll's, opening all ports, restarting associated services, and the aforementioned reimage. Again, this is not happening on all of the machines I am imaging, so I do not believe it is an issue with SCCM).

Double Ip address conf on lan NIC

Hi all!,

I can't find anything about my issue right now:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xodg54xftr8vxe3/MD.png?dl=0

The problem is that I have two IP addresses for the same NIC!
The 169.254.*.* is my problem here.
The major issue is with the 169.254.*.* address is that I can't access any shared folders o nthe network, enven mine! I still can access Internet with the computer, but i can't see any other networking peripherals.
I already checked the "Alternate Configuration" and advanced tab of the Lan Nic and the issue isn't there. I already uninstalled every interfaces from the device manager and reinstalled every nertwork interfaces. The problem is still there.

What could it be?

Computer recognizes HD TV (HDMI) as "Generic PnP" (VGA)

Recently I had a problem with my computer and I had to replace my hard drive, which I then installed windows 7 on, the same OS I had before. I'm using my Samsung HD TV instead of a monitor, connected via HDMI cable, and it worked fine before the changes. All of a sudden now, the computer won't recognize my monitor as a device with speakers. I went in to control panel to check things out and found that for some bizarre reason, my computer is recognizing my TV as a "generic pnp monitor on standard vga connection." ....That's wrong lmao.

I tried changing the hdmi cables, unplugging and replugging, restarting, ect. No change. I really would like to just use my TV for both Video and Audio. Any ideas how this can be fixed?

Change File Location for DVD Burning

I'm trying to burn files to a double layer DVD +R using Windows Explorer. The total size of my files is:
7.43 GB (7,980,351,488 bytes)
When I drag the files onto the disc, I get this error:
"There is not enough space on BD-RE Drive. You need an additional 3.28 GB to copy these files."

My C and D drives only have about 4GB free each, so Windows must be trying to use one of those to store the temporary files before they're burned. But my E drive has about 40GB free. How do I get Windows to use that drive instead?

What are these unkown folders/files on my drive

I have an external hard drive (HP Pocket Media Drive) that I use primarily for backup. But I see a bunch of folders on it that I have no idea where they came from - see screen shot below. They look like MS Updates, but if so, why did they go to my external drive?

I recently appended the folder names with "HOLD" to see if my system behaves differently - so far it does not (Several days of trial).

What are they? Is it OK to delete them? How do I avoid getting them in future if not required?

Thanks for your help!

Windows 7 lowering Sound level

$

When I play games while listening to music with WMP, Windows 7 is lowering the volume of both applications when the game makes a noise.

What I already tried:
- checking that everything is up-to-date (Windows, Chipset and Sound drivers)
- setting in Sound-Options the communication Option to "Do Nothing"
- Only using my onboard Soundcard/ PCIe Soundcard
- uninstall all sound drivers and reinstall them, uninstall onboard drivers while using soundcard and vice versa
- For all user accounts setting (and creating) Software -> Microsoft -> Multimedia -> Audio the key UserDuckingPreference to 3

- reset standard options for sound device
- deactivating all sound devices, setting the "Do Nothing" option again and restart the computer in any thinkable order
- deactivating the "exclusive mode" for the sound device I'm using
- playing music with another player (e.g. VLC)
- setting the standard communication device to something different
- Plug-in a head set and set it to the communication device

Nothing of this helped me to solve the problem. Every time something explodes or someone shoots in a game (e.g. Fallout 3, NV or Fistful of Frags or TF2 or whatever) Windows is lowering my music until the sound of explosion is over and then raise it again. This is really annoying and I have this problem for months and don't know what I can do moreover.

Soundcard: Realtek onboard and Creative X-Fi
Chipset: AMD 990FX
OS: Windows 7 U64

PS: I don’t know if those options I listed are named correctly because I'm using a German OS.

Locked out of C drive via Permissions in security tab

$

My girlfriend was having an issue with her Windows 7 Ultimate computer while I was out, so I told her how she could fix said issue, the day prior to this I had done some maintenance on it as she wanted to start using that computer again (it's a gaming computer she stopped using for about two weeks because it was running a little slower) and some scans found over 5,000 objects to be removed. It fixed a lot but there were a couple issues left and I didn't have enough time to finish tinkering with it, and there was one issue she could handle while I was gone. Or so I thought. She somehow got into the Security tab for her C drive and changed the permissions under the security tab. Now nothing can be altered on the drive, and I've tried a multitude of things to attempt to reverse this.

I would have simply backed it up and went ahead with a fresh install if not for the fact that she has So much on that computer (The scans went through over 400,000 files)

I've already attempted a system restore, went into the secret Administrator account in Safe mode to attempt to take ownership/change permissions where it said I was denied access, I attempted the following in Windows RE after booting with a USB thumb drive I freshly created specifically for this reason:

Went into command prompt and input the following (From within Windows RE after booting with said thumb drive containing windows ultimate SP1):

C:
takeown /A /F C:\
takeown /A /F C:\Windows
takeown /A /F C:\Windows\System32

No dice.

I'm a generally tech-savvy guy, I used to work for a computer repair company etc and it's rare that I get stumped by things involving repairing a rig- but I'm at my wits end on this one. Are there any other possible commands to be tried in Windows RE? I've yet to attempt turning off UAC and attempting to take ownership again to change the permissions, but I'm not sure if that would even take hold given the state of the permissions.

Note: I am able to get a command prompt open in Safe mode as an administrator.

Would making a new partition on said machine, installing Windows 7 onto it and attempting to seize ownership using that partition or attempting a Repair install via the USB drive, or, really, anything else for that matter be viable?

Any insights or fixes would be greatly appreciated. There's a lot on her computer she doesn't want to lose, and honestly would take ages to even attempt to back-up.

Edit: I also heard about this program or whatever while trying to figure this out after the windows RE failed me. Is this actually a thing (as in, is it legit) and does it work/would it work for the C drive via any method? It's called Permissions Time Machine on a website called AMYD Projects - Official WebSite

Again, thanks for any help - or attempted help
