Error Code: BIOHD-4

HP Pavilion p6267c-b
Windows 7 Home Premium
Pentium Q8300
750 GB original drive
2 TB new drive

Computer boots albeit slowly. No repeatable symptoms except being slow - probably attributable to my son loading years of junk onto it.

I found a thread here suggesting using Windows' Repair Disk to fix boot sector and mbr. I did. However, the the error code shows up again when using the diagnostics.

The hard drives passed the tests.

Does anyone have further suggestions other than reinstalling from scratch? I plan to do that, but every time I try to back up the drive, the operation fails with an i/o write error before it finishes. (Direct copy using dd via Knoppix.) That lead to the testing which found the boot "error." Again, it still boots, but I'd like to solve this before proceeding. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Audio Drivers Issues

Hi, so I had to disable and install a new audio driver in order to hear through the speakers, since the speakers cut out every 5-10 seconds. (CONEXANT AUDIO HD). Since that's the problem I want to listen through my headphones/earphones completely, but they dont appear in the Sound category. What audio driver should I download to be able to hear through my headphones. Also because my headphones are plugged in my laptop ignores that its in the audio jack and just continues playing.

I got just had to replace harddrives am I suppose to be getting the low on memory mesage?

h264 Encoding is completely broken across my entire computer

A while back I upgraded my computer and only recently discovered that I've got problems with encoding in x264 format and it's variants in ALL methods of video conversion. Attempting to convert ANY format to a h264-encoded format results in whatever program I'm using for conversion crashing or halting conversion after just a few seconds, be it Any Video Converter, Handbrake, or VLC Media Player's convert/save feature. However conversion is slightly possible, as if a video is converted quickly (e.g. by lowering the output's resolution) then the video can play normally however it has very heavy artefacts. While I can use Sony Vegas to simply import a video and then render it in a format that uses a h264 codec without it crashing, the end result still has heavy artefacts.
I know the problem isn't to do with my files or any kind of media player as I have I have h264-encoded videos that I've downloaded and saved before I upgraded and they play perfectly fine without any artefacting or problems.
I'm using both Windows 7 and Windows 10, both on separate SSDs, and the exact same problem persists across both OS's. I've also tried fully updating both of them to no avail (however it did fix a small AVI problem Win7 had with Vegas)
The problem is unlikely to do with any additional codec packs I may have stupidly installed in the past as the problem persisted even when I did a clean install of Windows 7 and attempted conversion the problem was exactly the same.
The only thing I've really noticed is that my CPU fans spin faster when it tries to convert and then go back to normal when it fails. I'm using an old Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo with an additional Arctic F9 attached. Even though it's not a great fan it still works fine for gaming.
I've also attached an example of what happens when I "successfully" convert a video into h264. It's just a snippet of old Dark Souls 2 footage I was using for sound effects a long time ago.

Specs:
Asus Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard
Corsair 16gb DDR4 3000Mhz RAM
Intel i7-6700k CPU (has not yet been OC'd)
MSI Gtx 980 ti
Corsair RM850i PSU
Windows 7 + Windows 10

And for the record, I'm looking for a solution, not an alternative.

Thanks.

complex policy issues!

Hi, As always with Windows nothing is simple.
I tried to install an audio device (Realtek...) but windows kept installing it's own driver so I had to change the Device Installation Policy.
I now have an issue where my mouse is not working because it cannot install due to Policy changes. Of course it says 'click here to get info' but I can't click because the mouse is not installed!
Strangely though I have used an old ps2 mouse to solve these problems but even my ps2 mouse is not recognised.
I have a cloned copy of the drive which is working so what I would like to know is; can I change the policy from my (this) drive?
Thank you in advance!

Mike

Ordering OEM Windows 7 OS

Windows 7 with all its updates on the desired month.

OEM, I think that is how called, self-activating OS disc after whole system install. ... and, how much copies will it support, on how many PC devices it will be?

I shall order a DVD with all its updates at August, for example.

The normal install right now took me an additional 240 Windows updates, and the service is cow-slow (without SP1 pre-installed).

Microsoft security essentials is orange

I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. I have had Microsoft security essentials forever with no issues. Now when I turn on the PC it displays a green icon fro a couple of minutes then goes to orange. It says PC status potentially unprotected, you have not run a scan for a while.
It does not matter if I run a scan right then it will remain orange for the rest of the day, restart will not change this icon nor will turning off the PC totally but the next day the icon will go green for a few minutes once again.

I have read to check the clock it is accurate on the PC lower right hand. I have revo uninstaller and have read online to un install and re install Microsoft security essentials but revo cant find the program.

Any advice on how to get this program back to being bullet proof?

Windows 7 installation won't complete

I tried yesterday to reinstall Windows 7 from a genuine update CD (Home Premium) There was already an installation in place but it would not boot nor repair. There was other stuff on the drive too, but it was no longer relevant so I did not mind it being wiped. The installation was slow enough but eventually reached the last stage - "Completing Installation" - and there it has stayed for, so far, about 18 hours. There is still some action - three dots that appear, one, two, three, and then disappear and start again - but nothing more. Mouse is working but If I click the close box X (in the dialogue box) I see another box with the message that installation cannot be stopped at this stage or the computer may become unusable. The escape key produces the same message. No other key produces any effect and neither keyboard no mouse produces a menu. I have not dared to use the Ctr-Alt-Del combination.

So what on earth do I do? It does not seem to me that this is ever going to end, but if I try to switch off and reboot physically I might find the 500GB hard drive and the system totally inaccessible. The system is i765 @ 2.8Ghz quadcore (?) with 12GB memory

Help and advice would be much appreciated.

Anybody Know Media Player?

Got an odd problem with tracks not showing up in the album, under the artist or even when searching by song title.

They're in the folder in Windows Explorer along with all the other tracks on the same album and they can be played manually from there. All of the columns are populated with the same data other than title and file size.

They were all encoded in one session in Audacity with the same information and all copied/pasted at the same time into the same folder used for the media library.

Hello To All ,

I have a friend who had upgraded her desktop from Win 10 from Win 7 , now that Win 7 was a upgrade from Win Vista Pro 64 bit , the desktop is a 2009 model Dell

Now the desktop has major issues

#1 keeps dropping drivers , even in compatibility mode mainly video & sound

#2 freezes during boot , have to do a hard shut down then boots fine

#3 printer issues

#4 drops the internet connection during use , mainly during downloads

The desktop is free from infection thru various scans by several programs , it has F-secure , C-cleaner , Super anti spyware , plus scanned by other programs

What she would like to know is would she be able to get the free upgrade to window 7 after the system disks are used to reformat her system back to Vista

She has passed the time limit on the ability to roll back to the win 7 upgrade from the win 10 upgrade

I don't think that she will but she thinks it will be able to , I am the one that will be doing all the work

The desktop ran awesome with win 7 , no issues what so ever

any advice /help would be awesome

Hello everyone!

I really hope someone could help me on this issue as I searched on internet, tried almost every method to find out and fix the problem but nothing helped so I really rely on your support.

The problem appeared first when I moved to windows 10, and after it totally crashed, without any possibility to restore at a previous point I had to reinstall windows and moved back to 7. Knew that blue screens could be caused by some drivers, software or hardware I updated all the drivers step by step and still getting te following errors/blue screens on win7:

I uploaded minidump files here: https://www.sendspace.com/file/acgd34

I ran differrent test like memtest, checkdisk and so on and didn't get any errors.

Let me know if you need anything else. I would really appreciate your help as I can't work no more on my pc... :(
Thank you!

Netwok Printing Problem

Hello

I work in a company that uses a network centralized printing solution.

The printer is installed from a server directory (Example \\server123), right click on the icon of the printer + Connect and the printer is automatically added and installed in Windows 7 (The OS is a modified version of Win 7).

This printer icon is a centralized list buffer on a server that saves all documents and allows to print with a badge in any printer closest to us.

Yesterday the printer stopped working for only one user.

When i try to reinstall the printer, i can access the server but when installing the icon of the printer i get a message error 0x00000002 - "Windows cannot connect to the printer" .

Are there any sequenced commands that may help solve the problem?
Any idea how to solve this?

Thank You
Best regards

Install Message: A Required CD/DVD Driver is Missing

Motherboard: ASUS z170-a

I have just put together my first build and I am attempting to install Windows 7 Home Premium x64 via USB. Right after I click the install button it gives me the message that a required CD/DVD driver is missing. I have read support threads everywhere on the internet about this issue but am unable to solve it. I have no optical drive on my PC, and it is suggested that the actual problem is that it needs SATA drivers.

The screen allows me to browse the computer for the files, but it isn't recognizing any hard drive or USB device other than the BOOT device that has the Windows installation even after unchecking the box that only displays compatible drivers. I've attempted to copy the drivers from my motherboard installation DVD and place it on the USB drive that has the Windows install files but I can't locate them. When I enter the USB on my laptop and use file explorer to browse the drive, the folder setup is very different than on my build when I browse the device. I also have an external Hard drive that I attempted to copy the drivers to but the Windows installation screen doesn't show it. I can confirm from the BIOS that all of these drives are operating correctly and all USB ports are functioning.

One solution I have seen suggested online is to use USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0, but I don't see any option for this in my BIOS if there is one. I do have something called "Legacy USB Support" enabled. My motherboard settings are all on the default settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
