Custom Built PC Freezes during games.

New to the forum but I am having a reoccurring and can cause it a problem where my PC will freeze during the following games:
  • Counter Strike: Global Offensive
  • Wizard101
  • RuneScape
  • Rocket League
  • H1Z1
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Borderlands 2

My PC Specs are of the following:
  • Processor: AMD FX-9590 4.70 GHz (5.0GHz Turbo)
  • Video Card: AMD Radeon R9 380
  • Hard Drive: 2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB
  • Motherboard: GIGABYTE 990FXA-UD3 R5 AMD 990 ATX
  • RAM: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1600MHz Dual Channel Memory
  • CPU Cooler: Asetek 550LC 120mm Liquid Cooling CPU Cooler
  • Power Supply: 430 Watts - Corsair CX430 V2 80
  • Case: APEVIA X-Pioneer Mid-Tower ATX gaming case
  • OS: Windows 7

The problem is my PC will freeze up during a game so that the image will remain there, the sound will stop and the mouse pointer will not move. Even Ctrl+Alt+Del does not do anything, a hard reset is required. This can happen during any of my games. The system can freeze after as long as a couple of hours of game play and as soon as five minutes in. CS-GO seems to be the game that causes my system to freeze the most. I even tried running RuneScape, a Java game that runs through the web browser and my PC froze during that as well. To try and solve the issue I have reinstalled windows multiple times, updated all the drivers I could find. I also tried looking through the event viewer to see if there were any errors that could be the cause of these freezes. There did seem to be a message that corresponded to many of the games but did not occur near the time of the freeze. Like so the errors under Windows System Logs were:

"A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor ID: 0"

"A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor ID: 1"

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
UsbCharger"

Some Screenshots of Event Viewer

I do not know of what to do next to solve this, if anyone has any solutions suggest them please. :banghead: Any would be of help. Thanks in advance

Hi -

I have an Dell M4600 and am connected to the internet via wifi with a strong connection. However, I cannot connect to any of my other devices (printers etc.). I have moderate knowledge an went to check my IP address in command prompt. When I did the IPconfig/release - I get a media disconnected message on the following:
Wireless LAN adapter for Wireless Network Conn2
Ethernet Adapter Local Area Conn 2
Ethernet Adapter Bluetooth
Wireless LAN adapter for Wireless Network Conn
Ethernet Adapter Local Area Conn
And then several on Tunnel adapter

I have searched your database and see a suggestion for XP, but am not sure where to go from here for Windows 7.

Thanks!

Windows 7 acting weird and very slow

Hello everyone.

I just did a format C and installed Windows 7 x64 again due to new hardware. I never had any problems with it before.

I managed to capture what I mean:

Can anyone tell me why my Windows is running really slow and almost like in "safe mode"? Everything else seems fine.

I have installed the latest driver for AMD Radeon Crimson and did a Windows Update (manual, because it was stuck at search..) and I don't have any extreme programs or games running in the background.
As told the windows is clean.

Info:
- Windows 7 x64
- 120GB SSD for C
- AMD FX 8320 Eight-Core Processor 3.50GHz (1 month old)
- 16 GB Memory (1 month old)
- AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB (2 weeks old)
- MSI 990FXA GAMING AM3+ (1 month old)

What is causing this problem? I can't break the code. Please let me know if I can provide more information or let me know how to.

Thank you for the help!
Best regards!

New Win 7 Install updates not working

Hi I installed Win 7 Pro on a Win XP Laptop recently and it did do some updates but then it got stuck and would not finish. I had activated it, but was not happy with it the way it was, especially since I did not do a reformat so Windows.old was still on it and taking up valuable space.

I thought I'd re-format it again, do it right this time and hopefully the updates would not get stuck. This time I didn't activate it right away just in case things went wrong, and I had to do it all over again. This time the updates would not work at all. I clicked "check for updates" and it said "searching for updates" but I let it go for hours and not one update came on. (Actually there may have been one or 2) but I'm not sure if they were there as part of the install or if they actually came during the searching for updates. I had installed "avg" and wondered if that was stopping the updates. I searched the web and found some solutions but nothing worked. I had never activated this time so I decided to try to reformat again.

(Three times a charm), I thought. This time I reformatted it and decided maybe I needed to activate it so the updates would come. Again I clicked "check for updates" and it said "searching for updates" but after hours nothing. I tried the microsoft Fixit and the Microsoft diagnostic tool, it said it was able to fix some issues but not everything.

My question is, I left the recovery partition from Win XP (which is what the laptop was) on there and did not get rid of that. Should I have deleted that partition and reformated the whole drive and made new partitions. Maybe there is something hiding in there that is causing my updates not to work?

Tell me what you think, oh and if I've activated this already twice in a month, is it ok to activate it again, and again if need be?

Thanks in advance

Slow Internet Speed

Greetings all,

I was recently asked by a friend to look at her office computer with a complaint that the system was sluggish (especially in regard to the Internet).

Following is a description of the machine:
Dell Studio XPS 7100 desktop
Six-core CPU running at 3.00 GHz
Six gigabytes of DDR3 10600 RAM

Started on system by cleaning it of dust bunnies (all vents were covered).
Checked performance through Task Manager and found the CPU running about 1% - 3% at rest. RAM usage was about 1.65 GB.
De-selected some non-essential startup items and got the base memory usage down to around 1.10 GB
I installed and ran CCleaner and removed 8.5 GB of clutter.
Malwarebytes found 19 PUP files.

Checked the Network settings and found that this particular system was configured with a wired connection as well as a wireless connection. The wired connection reports that it has a speed of 1 Gbps. The wireless indicates that it is connected at 54 Mbps.

There is an older Dell Optiplex 755 in this office running Windows 7 with only a wired Internet connection. This machine is a dual-core CPU equipped with 4 GB DDR2 667 MHz memory. As far as Internet speed, it is much faster than the better equipped XPS 7100.

Just wondering if it is possible that the XPS 7100 is using the wireless connection by default even though it also has a wired connection.
Thanks for your valuable input.

0x0000006b but cannot access drive to change bootcache.cat

Powerfailure during Win 7 64 boot on a dual partition system.
Right after the Windows wording came up, before the logo swirls.

Hung, so I forced a reboot.

Showed 0x0000006b which means corrupted bootcache.cat. Easy fix, just start using another partition or bootable recoverydisk/usb and delete the bootcache.cat in system32/codeintegrity on the partition showing the error. On a subsequent reboot it will be built again.

Nope.

Problem is I cannot access the boot partition (Win 7 64) to delete or swap this file. I have a secondary partition I can bootup from; D: (Win 7 32) and even a Bootable Win 7 repair USB (Win 32 and 64 versions).

No matter what I do, I cannot write anything to C:

Doing a dir query from an elevated command prompt out of D: or the recovery USB shows:

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

I then tried:

Sfc /scannow

It said it did something, and told me to reboot and run sfc again, I rebooted off the usb drive again but no change.

I then tried

Sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ offwindir=d:windows (remember d: is the primary (problem) partition when booting from USB)

Again it didn't succeed.

I then tried

Chkdsk /f d: (again, remember d: is the primary (in my case:problem) partition when booting from USB)

It said

The type of the file system is NTFS.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.
Failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

So it IS! reading the file system as NTFS.

I tried bootsect and bootrec. /fixmbr, /fixboot. They say operation completed successfully but no change. Perhaps they are simply overwriting the boot on the bootable USB recovery stick X:

I tried :

X:\>bootrec /rebuildbcd

And got:

Scanning all disks for windows installations

Successfully scanned windows installations

Total identified windows installations:0
The operation completed successfully

Which is weird, since I have a fully working windows 7 32 installation on the secondary partition d:

(When you boot from a bootable usb your drive letters get messed up though, so
C: becomes the usb, d: becomes your original main partition (the bootproblem in my case), f: becomes your actual second partition (usually drive d in windows) and x: is the windows ramdisk

Anyhow, then I tried:

Bcdboot d:\windows

It said:
Failure when attempting to copy boot files

Finally I tried:

Bootsect /nt60 D:

It said:

Target volumes will be updated with BOOTMGR compatible bootcode.

D: <\\?\Volume<3c4ecbb8-f805-19e5-9250-806e6f6e6963>>
Could not open the volume root directory:
The parameter is incorrect
No bootcode was successfully updated

So eventhough it is reading the volume.
I don't know what to do.

When I run the repair windows from the USB stick I get the windows repair GUI. The little table asking me which windows partition I want fixed does show me my two partitions, but it lists C: 0MB D:100gb, when in actuality it is C:800GB D:100GB

But clicking repair gets me no result, I EVEN have full system restore turned on for the partition in question, but obviously it cannot access the partition to locate and restore the saved files!

So when I try to boot the partition in question I just get a 0x000000f code.

I'm thinking of trying testdisk or Easy Recovery Essentials tomorrow, as these programs GUARANTEE they can fix any partition boot problems not caused by hardware faults, lol.

I'm sure its a software issue, and my aim is to get the 800Gb partition booting again.

Anyone here have any idea I can try?

Lol, if you read this far you must be a diehard like me.

Built-in webcam suddenly goes undetected

Hello,
I've had my HP laptop for over a year and half now. It came with a built-in webcam that functioned properly up until very recently. Whatever I used it for, Skype, Movie Maker, everything was always pre-installed and fully working.

Yesterday, however, when I tried to use it on Skype, it could no longer detect any webcam. I checked on every other software I used to use it with, and it's like it doesn't exist at all anymore. I tried to re-download the driver, but all I could find were meant for external webcams. I looked over a few forums, but every similar issue was solved by troubleshooting the webcam from the devices manager, whereas my webcam doesn't even show up in the devices manager anymore. Please help ?

BSOD but not the ordinary type (for me)

Hi...don't know if I'm at the right forum. Tell me if I'm not! This is my first attempt to try to figure out what is going on with my notebook. Originally it was Win7Professional but in January 2015 it was changed to Win7Ultimate. Problems started after that. The O/S is registered to me.

My hardware is a Toshiba Satellite c655-S5090.
O/S Win7 Ultimate 32-bit.
CPU is GenuineIntel Celeron(R) CPU900 @ 2.20GHz Intel 586, level:6
1 logical processor, active mask: 1
RAM: 2009047040 bytes total

WhoCrashed did an analysis on 3/27/2016
crash dump file: C\Windows\Minidump\032716-18470-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntkrnlpa.exe (NT+oXdfc74)
Bugcheck code: oX96 (oXffffffff83141480, OxFFFFFFFF83141480, OxFFFFFFFFF833141480, OXffffffff89485005)Error: INVALID WORK QUEUE ITEM
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe
Product: Microsoft Windows Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that a queue entry was removed that contained a null pointer. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

For the record...I know enough about this stuff to be dangerous. I catch on fairly quickly but I'm missing a lot of pages in my book at 77 years old.

Any help in identifying this would be very much appreciated. About 3 months ago I started having about one BSOD per day. I traced that down to a network adapter driver that needed updating from Toshiba. Has run smoothly for the past couple of weeks but then last Sunday this particular BSOD occurred.

Look like a great forum. Thanks for being here!!!

Windows Update fails searching for updates

Hello,

as topic title says...

I have run out of ideas, how to fix this, if possible.

Already tried these:

- SURT (comes out clean, log shows no errors)
- SFC (the same as above)

Fatal errors in windowsupdate.log:

which corresponds to this in CBS.log:

It seems that SP1 package, catalog or something is missing or corrupted. Windows update agent itself is OK, component store needs fixing. Please answer only those who know what these missing files are and where to restore them. I can get them from functioning installation. This happened after using removal of non-SP files backup using Windows' own Cleanmgr. Please do not post those generic answers. They ARE useless.

Logs are shared here:

Any help appreciated, I'm lost on this one, and so far clean installation seems the only solution. I would like to avoid it, if possible.

EDIT:

Please ignore any "Cannot connect to service" errors. I had to disable wuauserv because it only tries to search for updates in endless loop of failures, thus only eating RAM and CPU.

Hope I'm in the correct forum - I searched this issue and couldn't find an answer. Really appreciate your help in resolving this issue:

My Computer:
Intel Core i7 920 3.8 GHz Factory Overclock from 2.6 GHz
CPU Cooler - Corsair Water Cooler
Asus P6x58D premium MoBd
Corsair Dominator DDR3-1600 6GB
Graphics Card BFG GeForce GTX 285 - 2GB
Win7 64Bit

Every once in a while while working on my computer, whether it be a graphics intensive game or just working in Word, my screen goes dark and i receive the following message:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 34144 stopped responding"

I have updated my video driver but this seems to continue.

This has been happening for a long time and is beginning to increase in frequency.

Thanks for your help with this!!

I have obtained the upgrade file GetWindows10-Web_Default_Attr.exe

when I try this again after rebooting, I get the same message.

System instability

$

I recently cleaned my fans inside my computer and made sure all of my cords were securely fastened to everything, (due to my main issue which I will explain below) but shortly after I finished doing that, my computer was even more unstable than before. I had the "windows cannot repair this computer automatically" hell but luckily with the help of Jenae on these forums, I was able to successfully reboot after getting nowhere for several hours.

So the real reason I'm creating a thread was the reason why I cleaned/secured my computer in the first place: a bad rash of my computer constantly freezing. It used to blue screen quite a bit and then it would follow up with crackly crunchy sounds until it reboots but now it does one of three things:
1. It freezes at the manufacturer (motherboard: Asrock, in my case) screen where you get F8 for biosphere options on boot up.
2. It freezes on the home screen, where the icons in the taskbar at the lower right never load and if you hover over the taskbar, it shows the "loading" cursor until it eventually freezes.
3. After using the computer for X amount of time and letting the screen go to sleep, I will come back and I will not be able to wake the computer up.

So I'm curious as to what my problems are as this doesn't seem to be going away.. I don't know if I have faulty hardware or too much interfering software or registry errors or what, but if anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it. And if anyone knows anyway I can test my hardware to make sure it still functions correctly.

If I need to upload my computer components, let me know. Also, I have several antivirus programs going. I know that is a no no, but I didn't think that they interfere with each other. They are:
1. AVG Free (real time)
2. MSE (real time)
3. Malwarebytes free (toggled)
4. Spybot S&D free (toggled)

Thank you.

Dell Inspiron 531 desktop won't boot Vista 32

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop with a Vista 32 home premium operating system. Some time ago, the CD drive stopped working, even though all the diagnostics say it is functioning properly. Recently, after a normal shutdown, the computer will not complete a reboot. It will turn on, go through the Dell logo screen, and Windows will begin loading. It will proceed through the "Please wait" screen, and the "Welcome" screen, and then goes to a black screen with the white cursor arrow. I can move the arrow freely with the mouse, but nothing else will happen. Eventually, it goes to the screen saver, and if you move the mouse, it will go to the sign-in screen. The computer will reboot in "Safe mode." Diagnostics in Safe Mode say that there were errors in the Drive that were supposedly fixed, but it still will not restart. I can't reboot with the installation disks because it won't recognize the CD drive. Any thoughts or help will be greatly appreciated.

Skype Blue Screen + IE Problems

If anyone can help me with this problem I will be so grateful

The problem started when I logged out of Skype, then when I tried to log back in the screen went blue. I still can't login to Skype but whilst trying to fix this issue I also noticed a few other problems that I believe are related to each other

I read that Skype uses Internet explorer to load the login screen, and if there's a problem with either Java or Internet Explorer then it will not load. Therefore I tried the following things:
- Re-installed Skype
- Re-installed java
- Tried legacylogin on Skype
- Tried an older version of Skype [The login screen loaded but it said 'Skype can't connect"
- Tried sfc /scannow
- Windows update
- Virus scan [Nothing found]

The other problems I've noticed:
- Internet Options in the control panel doesn't open when I press it
- Whenever I open a folder it opens in a new window, even though I have open in the same folder enabled
(Not sure if these are related but they might be)

Whilst trying to uninstall Internet explorer I seem to have created a new problem:
Internet explorer doesn't show up anywhere on my system
[Not in installed updates]
[Not in programs and features]
[Not in program files]
[When I try and Run it "iexplore.exe" it says it can't find iexplore.exe]

But when I try and install Internet Explorer 11 online, it says there is a more recent version is installed

Can anyone help?

Screen keeps going black for a few seconds

This problem seems to have started two days ago, and I am not sure what is causing it. The details are:
  • It seems to only stay black for around three seconds, in intervals between one minute and 30 minutes.
  • Everything stays functional while the screen is black. As in, nothing pauses while the screen is black.
  • The monitor doesn't look to be the faulty part here; the light on it stays the same brightness and colour throughout, indicating that it is still displaying something.
  • I have updated my video driver to see if it fixed the problem. It didn't.

If you would like to know any more information about how I can get this fixed, please ask.

Thanks.

Audio device not working in Windows Media Player, iTunes and other players

Hello,

Today I ran into some trouble with my audio and I have absolutely no idea how this happened at all. I have been trying to fix it all day but nothing so far has worked.

So here's the problem, for some reason, Windows Media Player and iTunes are unable to play mp3 files. I can play mp4 movies in Windows Media Player but then I have no sound. Basically, iTunes and WMP gave me the same error when I tried to play any mp3 files.

WMP gives me a pop-up window that says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly."

iTunes gives me a message on launch that says there's something wrong with my audio configuration. I tried to enable an audio device in WMP but the list is empty, it doesn't find any audio devices at all, here's what it looks like:

Here are the things I have tried so far but didn't work.
-Uninstall my audio drivers and reinstalled
-Install Dell's IDT Audio drivers
-Updated my audio drivers to the latest versions

I wanted to use System Recovery to set my laptop back to before it happened but I don't have any restore points unfortunately.

If anyone could help me with this that would be great.

Win7-64 WiFi won't get new IP on network change

$

I change between multiple WiFi networks several times a day. I have had this computer (Tecra Z50-A1503, Win7 64) for two years now. It never had problems changing between WiFi networks. I would put it to sleep at one network and wake it again at the new location and it would connect to the new network, refresh its DHCP settings, and be on the network with no problem.

Then, a few months ago, it stopped doing this. It will successfully connect to the new network as before, but it will keep the same IP address as the previous network it was on.

I can turn the WiFi off and on but it doesn't help. I have to actually go to the adapter settings screen, disable the Wireless network adapter, and re-enable it. Then it will reconnect and acquire the new IP address.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Wireless NIC drivers, made sure I had the latest drivers, but it hasn't helped.

I think this whole thing started when I turned on the Bluetooth. But I have it off now and it still has the IP-non-refresh problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Please don't tell me to run a script to disable and re-enable. I know I can do that. I did that in Windows 98, but this is not Windows 98 any more.

I know that this automatic switching from one network to the next can and does work, so please help me find a way to restore it.

Windows Mail 2012

I am having a problem with my email app, Mail 2012. I am running Windows 7 with the email app Windows Mail 2012. I recently had to have my hard drive reformatted and Win 7 reinstalled because my 2 week old Win 10 upgrade from 7 stopped working and my machine would only Post but Win 10 would not even load or launch. Anyways now that I had a computer tech reinstall my copy of Win 7 and add Win Mail 2012 I can't completely empty my deleted items folder in Mail 2012. Before I had the reinstallation done I had zero problems with Mail 2012. Can I just uninstall Mail 2012 and then reinstall it? What do you think. I don't want to lose my contacts in there now.
