Updates Won't Download

In trouble again ...

My other machine (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit) seems unable to download 14 pending updates however long I leave it, it's always 0% complete.

This machine (Windows 7 Home) updated without a problem today, so it isn't a network issue (I have superfast broadband).

How to fix it ?

[SOLVED] Computer installs updates every time it shuts down

I am running Windows 7 and every time I shut my computer down, I get "Please do not power off or unplug your machine. Installing update 1 out of 4. . .," which takes about 7 minutes or so before it will shut down. It has ben doing this for months. It is clearly installing the same updates over and over again. I can shut it down, let it install the updates, restart and shut down 5 minutes later and it does the same thing. Any suggestions on what I can do to prevent this? Thanks!

Win 7 Freeze on Dell D820 Laptop

I use my Dell D820 primarily for home automation and it is always on. Every couple of weeks, it freezes. The screen is dark, no keys have any effect including cntrl alt del. The only way I can recover is to hold the power button down to shut down and then re-boot.

Windows 7 has been kept up-to date, the machine has only a few apps on it. It has a solid state 250MB HD and 4GB of memory. I have used both Malwarebytes and Super Anti-Spyware to try to keep it clean.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have read somewhere that Windows 7 includes Media Player, but the version I have does not. Is there a reason for this? Presumably I can just download it.

Curious problem with Google drive

I have been trying to use Google drive to share files between two computers, Win 7 and Win 10. It works mostly, but sometimes it screws up.

I am using an old version of Quicken (2001) to track finances, uisn two folders for different types of accounts in different institutions, Say Bank A and Bank B.

Sometimes it gets confused and puts the files from the Bank A folder in the bank B folder and vice versa. When that happens, Quicken cannot open the files. It is sometimes successful in validating the files, and opening them, but sometimes not. :banghead:

I can't imagine how the machine stores files except where ti got them from.

I know that theoretically I can share the files via the network, but only if the other machine is not sleeping.

I can share via dropbox, but that has not been entirely trouble free either.

Cannot connect to hotspot wifi

Hi,

I've been using a hotspot wifi with my Windows 7 computer for several months now. The hotspot requires login, the redirect is automatic. This morning I tried to connect and it says This site can’t be reached www.hotspots.de took too long to respond. I tried connecting with my phone, everything is working fine. I've tried connecting my computer to another (slower and weaker signal) hotspot which does not require login in, works fine.

I've done a troubleshoot on the network, it came out with the following message:

resource (www.hotspots.de) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. The remote computer isn't responding to connections on port 433, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings, or because it might be temporarily unavailable.
Windows couldn't find any problems with the firewall on your computer.

I'm using avast. I tried switching off all the shields, made no difference.
Also, if it is the antivirus that is blocking my connection, why is it only blocking this particular hotspot, while I can still connect to other much more inferior one and browse the web?
I work at home using the internet so it's imperative for me to have a good connection. I might be using a lot of data, and it's a public hotspot, so it made me suspect that they might have blocked me from that particular hotspot? Is it even a technical possibility?

Please help!

Hi Kids
sure up you can help with this one. I am working on a Dell 530 with windows vista . And the person I got if from may have deleted important files while trying to delet unwanted files or they got a virise while visiting sites on the web or maybe both lol. Any way the side of the tower was left off and the data cable to the hard drive pulled off and broke the circit board. I replaced the hard drive circit board and cable and I finley got the machine to run the Dell installation disk on the D: drive but the machine dosn't seem to see the hard drive and while in the command prompt I can open up X: and D : but C: says the device is not ready. Also when running the setup disk there are no operating systems listed to down load to.

i have a problem and you guys have helped me greatly in the past. my computer locks up for up to five minutes sometimes and then it is ok. i thought it was with me using iTunes but then it does it even when i have dumped iTunes from my system. it is not a permanent lock up just for a while and would be tolerable except when i am talking online using messenger or Gmail hangouts to someone from a different country it is a pain; i have tried a clean boot as suggested in a different thread but that does not work. i am sure one of you masters of computers can help

Windows Update Hanging on "Checking for Updates"

Lately, my Windows 7 Update gets stuck at the Checking for Updates step.

After running the Windows Update Diagnostic tool a few times, every time it runs it finds the same few errors and fixes them, but it also finds Windows Update Error 0x80070057 and is unable to fix it.

Any ideas?

Yosemite Server Backup questions

I'm using the free version of Yosemite Server Backup that came with my tape drive but it's having two problems:

1. It always fails to backup system files, does this mean the backup won't be usable for a disaster recovery

2. It will only run scheduled backups if you leave the main program window open 24/7, I find this absurd and it's the only backup program I ever used that requires leaving its main window open for scheduled backups to be run

Issue 1 may or may not be a problem, I don't know if these system files would be required for disaster recovery. Issue 2 is mostly an annoyance but that's not really an acceptable problem for a backup program as if I ever accidentally close the window all backups will fail without warning.

Anyone know if issue 1 is really a problem and if issue 2 can be fixed?

Thanks

Windows update hangs during manual update for Windows 7

Hello,

I have Windows 7, 64bit. I had it set to manual update. I had not used the this particular machine in a while so I ended up with 88 new updates to go through. It was able to do two updates successfully but it now hangs for the remaining updates at %0. Fix It didn't find anything wrong. I was hoping to take advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade but seems like the pending updates must occur first.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi, I'm runníng win 7. I can't establish a bluetooth connection to my iphone. I have the driver, I've checked the status and it's up to date. I can't dowload a new driver, it won't allow it because it is "up to date"! But there is no bluetooth connections and the computer will not discover my phone. Something is obviously corrupt but even after I remove the driver and reboot, the same thing happens. Any suggestions?

File Sharing Error

Greetings!
I am new to the forums, so if I do something incorrectly please try not to be too harsh.

Anyway, I have three computers - one laptop and two desktops, and I own one of the desktops and the laptop (all running Windows 7), I'm going to call PC1 the PC that I do own, and PC2 being my mother's desktop.

PC1 seems to be unable to open files on any other computer on the network, (Including PC2 and my laptop) but, both the laptop and PC2 are able to connect to PC1 and each other with no issues.

This always results in the error 0x80070035 - The network path was not found.

Things that I have tried are as follows;
- Using the ping command on PC1 to PC2 and the laptop, which comes back successful.

- Disabling all Antivirus / Firewalls on all devices and connecting that way. (Have also made sure they are not running in both the process list and service list)

- I cannot even connect to anything from PC1 to anything else when using \\(ComputerName) in Windows Explorer.

- I have also used various possible fixes I have found on the internet, but cannot remember them specifically, so I will let you know if it something I have tried.

I don't usually ask for help when it comes to computers because it's rather embarrassing when someone who is going to college, majoring in Computer Repair is having an issue like this. But this has frustrated me to the point where I am not of options and am pulling my hair out over this issue. :banghead: Any possible solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced!

Errors win 7 wiped pc

Hey I've got a problem with my PC I'll begin from the start:
Couple days ago turned on my PC it wouldn't boot. Black screen came up saying something like : can't boot insert proper boot device.

I tried everything win repair restore etc found something on net about take out CMOS battery then try again but all failed. So decided to wipe ands start again...

Everything came back on as normal but when I went on the net using explorer or Mozilla it keeps saying your connection is not secure the owner of google.com has configured their website improperly.

The last thing I did before the black screen started was install iTunes for my new phone. I went on google and clicked on top link and I installed I'm sure it was the official site but not 100%. Could I have installed a virus/malware? Or is this a hardware issue? Any idea's I'm baffled?

W7 Update issue Current behaviour “Checking for updates” runs for many hours

W7 Update issue
Current behaviour “Checking for updates” runs for many hours without detecting any.
Troubleshooting steps taken,
I installed MS “fix” KB 3135445,
Ran Fix WU Utility v 1.0 (This utility will re-register a total of 114 .dll,* ocx and .ax files which are required for the proper functioning of Windows Updates. )
Cleared Windows Update Cache, following correct procedure.
Ran Windows update diagnostic.diagcab which detected issues, (see attch result 1 & result 2) which flagged an error RC_DataStore code 0X800F081F. I have tried researching this to no avail.
I then ran a repair utility from the reputable “tweaking.com” the log attch “Repair_Windows_Updates” which may reveal info to those wiser than me .
I also attch a list of current updates in the system the last being Net Framework 4.6.1.
The Dell laptop is clean of infections / malware and stable. Security essentials updates do run well. So I'm out of ideas now and welcome your input .
