Uninstalled Skype Windows 7 how to stop updates

$

I uninstalled Skype months ago. Can I stop Windows 7 from trying to install Skype updates? I have a long, long list of "fails" in my updates. I suppose that all those attempts to install the update cannot be helping my laptop's performance.

All I find online is how to stop updates from WITHIN Skype. Impossible to do it the program is no longer installed.

Thanks in advance,
Lisa

What are the win7 Default user folders for?

I'm confused about these issues. In my Users folder I currently have the following below shown folders,
(all of these will open in a file manager except the Default User folder which I surmise is a Junction thing ?)

Administrator <-(now showing since I activated the built in Admin)
All Users
UserMe
Default <-(can open upon clicking)
DeFault User <-(does not allow opening even by admin acct)
Guest <-(no password acct)
Public
Std_User <- (non-Admin but still pswd access)

Of all these folders the only ones I created are the original user acct of UserMe and an acct I just created yesterday named Std_User. They both have passwords. I also have the original guest acct (no password) cannot remember if I created it, but I just enabled it.

I surmise windows puts these below folders in the Parent Users folder upon install of Win7 OS.

All Users
Default
Defautl User
Public

Since they've been there from the beginning.
Not sure what they are for (?)
Can the Default ones be renamed ? (if I even wanted to) Or deleted ?

But here's another aspect that's concerning me, I have apps that were installed (I presume under "install for all users") that are showing up in the guest acct.

IF I UNINSTALL AN APP from within the guest acct that was installed under the above said "install for all users" I'm guessing it also uninstalls it from other (all?) user accts ?
Notwithstanding if it needs admin password etc to do this or not)

Also another concern is when I create a new user acct, I'm going to have to install any apps already in my other acct that I want to use into this acct only on "install to this user only", correct ?

As you can see I'm kinda confused. I've always just had my one user acct of UserMe, but since it's an admin acct I've recently read I need to create a non admin acct (which I've done and also enabled the guest and admin) to operate from for safety reasons.

Win 7 Windows Update

I have a HP dv6-2155dx laptop that is 6 years old. The harddrive is a seagate and i think it recently gave up on me. So I put in a Crucial M500 240GB and loaded the HP restore discs with Windows 7 Home Premium. I've loaded it 3 times, each ti e everything works fine except for Windows Update. It always tells me the system is not running, even though I have Automatic Updates turned on. I've installed every HP driver, Crucial driver and Microsoft driver to fix the problem to no avail. Even the direct downloads of Windows updates, including SP1, fail during install. Even the Windows Update diagnostic tool fails to start. It's like the freakin computer has a mind of its own and deliberately thwarting every attempt to update windows. I'm all out of ideas.

modern mobo won't boot from usb

I have a gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3p brand motherboard. My PC won't boot off a windows 7 install drive. I created this usb drive and used it before to do a clean install on other PCs. I tried everything in the bios, even setting floppy disk as first to boot. But it just insists on immediately booting from my SSD, the only internal disk drive plugged in.

Pics of my bios for reference below.

I did test the usb drive and it seemed to work although it didn't get past a black windows loading screen, I don't know if that is because my test software is not a proper virtual machine or something else.

Acer mini computer has stropped twice for no apparent reason. Pressing or holding the start button on the case does nothing. Both times I unplugged it and plugged it back in almost immediately , and it starts.

Attached is a text file of its specs. The questions is: Is this indicative of something. like its dying?

How to stop recurring popups for W10 upgrade.

I have used W7 64-bit since XP support stopped. W7 is stable, and methods of access, etc, are like prior versions It's familiar, but of course better in many ways. I do not want to leave 7 to jump into W10.

Popup promo's for W10 are constantly coming onto my desktop, even on top of my work in Xcel. I learned to delete the Windows update KB3035583, going in thru Control Panel>Programs and Features>Installed Updates. That eliminates the popup nuisance for a day or two, then this "update" re-appears

What can block/kill this nuisance for the long-term?
Will appreciate any good answer. thanks, Dean

p.s. How does Microsoft get away with calling the promo popup an "update" when it is commercial advertising, plain and simple!

Win10 Hi-Jack during Win7 Update

:banghead: Windows Hi-Jack!!! :banghead:

I bought a new AMD10 a couple of months ago for my wife's use. The O/S is Win7 Home Edition SP1...the same as mine. We continually get the unwanted Win10 free update offer and automatically reject it. Well last night during the automatic Windows Update Windows took the matter into their own hands and about 10:45pm went ahead and updated the O/S on my wife's computer to Win10. I found out how to reject the installed O/S and they said they would re-install the previous version. Right!!! And to make matters worse the little message in the lower right hand corner now informs us that we are operating an illegal copy of Win7 Home Edition.

I have the original manufacturer's disk and can reinstall the Win7 Home Edition but we will lose all of those valuable urls plus have to hook-up again with Thunderbird and all the security stuff like Emsisoft. This was more than just aggressiveness on the part of MicroSoft...it was an unwanted assault! What in the world can we do to get back our O/S and privacy (even from Microsoft)?

First time for me. An optional update for Win7, clicked the, More information link in Win Update and returned, 'This page doesn't exist on the webpage'.

only one other post online asking the same, for KB3156417. so it says the update exists..

some time later, an official link, appeared on the MS site
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/3156417

it mentions 'Roll up Updates' and it seems Microsoft has decided to provide future updates for win7 differently in the future.

the links also mention how clean installs for win7 will become easier in future:
http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft...server-2008-r2
also:
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...ows-7-and-8-1/

just installed KB3156417 and after a requested reboot the computer, it looks ok.

Systen Mechanic 15.5 not finding 2nd SSD

Hi

I am using W7 64bit.
I just got SM15 last night and there is a SSD accelerator/optimiser tool within.

My C drive is my OS drive and B drive is for games etc. The optimiser finds C no problem, but not B.

Their website gives the advice below, but I am not really sure what to do?
Any advice appreciated.

Windows does not recognize your drive as an SSD
If your drive is not properly recognized as an SSD by Windows, then it will not be detected by SSD Accelerator.

Example: An improper interaction between Windows and some SATA controllers can result in SSDs being incorrectly listed as SCSI drives within the device manager.

Solution: Resolving the issue causing the SSD to be improperly listed within Windows can also result in the drive being detected by SSD Accelerator.

[SOLVED] I must've accidentally updated to Windows 10

For the past several months I've been getting these pop up ads that tell me to upgrade to Windows 10. I always click no then exit. But this morning, I don't know what I've done, I must've accidentally hit the wrong button meaning to click no then exit, then I went out of my room for breakfast, then came back, it's downloading updates for Windows 10. Is this a big problem? I wanted to wait until I move and get a new computer to switch but....

System is at a crawl

I purchased a Asus Desktop a couple of weeks ago running Windows 7 Pro.

I had some trouble with it right away not wanting to do windows updates. I tried updating to the latest updater and several other tips and tricks to no avail. I left it alone for a few days and it started getting updates on it's own.

After dozen of "checks" and reboots it had finally stop showing up updates so I started to install software.

I installed my AV (Vipre business premium that runs off our server), firefox, the tool to prevent windows 10 downloads and yesterday I went to do my office 2013 and it had windows updates. I did both and now my system is at a crawl. I've down an SFC /scannow it found things it said it addressed. My CBSpersist logs are 4 to 5 gigs, which seems unusual.

I did a system restore to before the windows updates/office 2013 with no luck. I'm running a deep AV scan now but I can't see how it got anything, we've not even set up the email on it yet.

I'm not sure where to go from here, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

What does it do?
What does it contain - what goes into it?
How do I read it?
Is it necessary?
Why does it get full?
Why does it stop?

Rather not just get a link to an M$ Help page since they rarely make sense to me.:ermm:

The maximum file size for session "Homegroup Log" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:\Windows\Logs\Homegroup\homegrouplog.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 5242880 bytes.

Computer recognizes but won't show my Galaxy Tab 3

Windows 7 recognizes that my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 was plugged into a USB port, the hardware insert sound was made, but Windows 7 refuses to show the device in my computer. I tried right clicking in the my computer explorer windows and selecting refresh but it still won't show up. the tablet is selected to connect as a media device but still nothing. a bit of searching around found results with people having an issue with android devices not recognized by Windows and not showing up in my computer and people having driver issues causing it to not show up, but the driver is there, the computer recognizes that the device is plugged in. If I tell the tablet to connect another way like for example as a camera, Windows immediately goes into installing the driver, but after the driver is installed, it still doesn't show up in my computer. What could be the problem here?

Thinking of suing MS over win10 auto update?

$

Hi all,
Sorry to have to resort to "having a winge" on your forum but I am absolutely fed up with MS continually upgrading to win10 when I say No!
I tend to around 15 PCs all set up for Office situations, all running Win7 HP 64bit.
This week I have lost another office PC, which I cannot afford. Windows update has auto updated to win10 which in my opinion is totally unsuitable for this office. virtually hijacking my office. PCs are useless after returning to 10 option.

How do I stop this???
I want my office data to stay "private"
After win 10 takes over I lose all emails, network links etc and have to wipe/re-install win7 from disc, and takes nearly all day to perform.

Why is this happening?? I don't want win 10, I have not tablets/androids its an office, PCs only,MYOB, MS Office, other database programs that cost thousands

Please help or point me to a place where I can report directly to MS and get some response.
Thanks guys

Restricting sound output device for users?

I help maintain a small computer lab at a neighborhood center and we just got new refurbished computers with Windows 7 on it and I do not know Windows 7 that well (I'm out of the loop with everything past Vista) so I figured maybe someone here could help me out as I've used this site in the past under a different account with success.

We do not have speakers per se so all sound comes out of the tower itself. I've looked in the Audio options and there are only two audio drivers/settings you can adjust: Speakers and System Sounds. Lowering System Sounds lowers the volume a bit but if someone plays a Youtube video then it plays as if the Speakers volume hasn't been lowered at all.

What I'd like to do is restrict guests from listening to Youtube videos and/or music WITHOUT headphones so everyone else in the lab doesn't have to suffer.

Is it possible to make it so something has to be inserted into the Speaker drive in order to hear sound from it?

I appreciate any and all responses to my question(s).

Boot sector Corrupt, operating system won't load

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 on a Dell Dimension 5150. I recently received a failed to load operating system error and a Drive 1 not found error. I ran a startup repair from the Windows 7 disc and received a message it failed to repair automatically and that the "Boot Sector for system disk partition is corrupt" error code=0x17. I do have some files I'd like to retrieve off of the hard drive if possible so if I can repair it, I'd like to try. Is there anyway to repair this? If so, how do I go about this? Thanks in advance.

Media player - GOM.
Processor - AMD Athlon 2 X2 250 (3.0 GHz).
780G chipset with HD 3200 graphics. ... got separate graphics!

1080p / 720p videos go "scobby".

What do I do?

Should I try VLC or KM players, or Windows MP + codecs pack?

GOM Player told I should go thru 3D video acceleration (hardware acceleration) quiz... Next?
... did I did something wrong there? What do I do?
