Schooling PC

Schooling the computer.

Hello ...

I want to say of this issue - "schooling the computer"; making it maximum for work and play, just like in major computer clubs, but at the same time maximum on changing internal settings on Disabled.

2 things here to start of:
a. Software for this. Software that computer clubs are using (if known).
b. And this particular question: if I'll limit user to his/her user account on Windows computer - his settings are kept only in his account? and, deleting his separate, additional account drops only his settings, and if so - those settings aren't essential on this object, - computer?
... and, only 1'st main admin account has holds all internal settings of that computer? His/her account is not essential??

... This is for "dropping the settings, the internal settings of a computer."

Please reply. :)

Paint Shop Pro 8 crashes with crop function

I've been using Paint Shop Pro 8.1 since Win98. I've never had any problems with it in any OS until I jumped to my new laptop (Dell Precision 7710) with Win7 Pro installed.

I've tried to use the compatibility mode in just about all the version listed. None have prevented the problem.

The problem is when I try to crop a high megapixel image the program crashes and gives this error.

My computer is a 64 bit and this DLL module is a 32 bit.

The only time I can get the crop function to work consistently is when I use it in the screens native resolution of 3840x2160, but I can barely see anything with these old eyes. Any other resolution will crash. I currently use 2048x1152 as this is a good compromise for most of my programs and my aging eyes.

Thanks.

AMD USB Filter Driver Problem

Hi...for unknown reasons this new computer (Feb 2016) just crashes and comes back up. It also goes into sleep mode after about 5mins of watching a video even though I've reset all the known power options to prevent this. Can't seem to find a BIOS option for removal of this annoying happening. Also there's a small message in Spanish (flashes so quickly that I've not been able to snag it all..."entrando en ahora energia" Something to do with saving energy, I think. I've entered BIOS and looked for anything having to do with power settings but there's nothing there that I can see.

This is my wife's computer. Both Win7 Home Premium O/S. Also if you could contact me through her email when there's a post for me to review, I would appreciate it...aknrcn@gmail.com.

I've run both 'Who Crashed' and Blue Screen View and indications are that it could likely be a USB filter. I know these things can be tricky and it's easy to draw wrong conclusions. Can you help? I've shot the screens for both of these diagnostic programs for you.

WMP 12, Windows 7 Pro.

WMP 12 plays double sound in movies. What should I do to fix this?

... I've enabled Sync of frames and video-audio in player's settings under "Performance" tab - should this help? Movies are playing correctly only on low browser tabs and after pause.

Not Able to Boot

I have the same error where I cannot boot, I cannot repair etc. However when searching in the rededit. It doesn't do anything, just keeps searching. I left it to search for around 5 minutes too.

I know I shouldn't have, but I downloaded a windows 10 ISO and converted a USB to a bootable Windows 10 tool. When I tried booting through the USB I formatted the data on all of the drives, when I tried to continue booting the Windows 10 on any of the drives I was given the error 'We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.'.

I would really appreciate any help, would it help if I used another pc to completely format all of the storage drives, then try to install the operating system on one of the drives?

Rebooted without cleanly shutting down.

How best to get new Windows license for CPU and MoBo upgrade?

$

I need to upgrade my HTPC that I also run 24/7 for security cam serving and recording. The newer cams running at higher resolutions are pressing my 5 year old i3 build. So I was wondering what the easiest way to get a new Windows license would be. I can get an OEM copy of Win 7 (needs to be Win 7, not 10, to retain Media Center for TV DVR) along with the new CPU,MoBo and RAM. Then rather than doing a clean install I'd like to drop the new hardware into the existing case with HDs and other accessories, etc. and just go. Could I use the new Windows product key like that? Or would I have to skip the OEM copy, boot up with the new hardware and then pay MS directly for a new license when it pops up the message about new hardware?

Try posting at KM forums... the "5 name at the top" thing doesn't allows. what that mean??

Hello!

I have just installed today's KM Player!

I have this:
a. Those famous video/audio filters KM have, those for bad videos, - are they on? ...should they be enabled?
b. How to disable spam/commercials in KM? I couldn't find.
c. DAT file type; this file type is often system file / or a program file - KM and GOM thinks they are AVI or something. Should fix! :D

Windows 7 PC Keeps going to Sleep

Hello,

My desktop computer with Asus Intel Core i7 970, Antec 850W PSU, despite all the advanced power settings being set to never turn off, still does after about 20 minutes - that is both screen and computer. They wake with either the mouse or keyboard. I even tried the "Don't Sleep" utility but still they stay off. :banghead:

I have scanned this and other internet forums for weeks and have yet to find an answer that works on my system.

I just did an energy report (html) "powercfg /energy" and have posted it here as a zip file as .html files are not accepted.

I do quite a bit of streaming from the internet, so it is a pain that it stops working after such a short time.

I apologize that this an old subject but I couldn't figure out how to follow that thread without starting a new one.

I hope someone can help. Many thanks in advance.

Ian

Atheros AR9485 driver problem

The situation
We arrived at our holiday address with 2 Android phones, an Android tablet and an Asus Win7/64 laptop. On premises

is an older desktop machine. All 5 reconnected flawlessly to my neighbours wifi router (with his consent) again.

The problem
All had Internet access, except the Asus laptop. It would show the Internet delta icon with the yellow ball, it said

it had an Internet connection, but every page I tried to load came up blank, holding no HTML at all. Tried 3

different browsers, same result. No error messages, just a blank page, the address bar holding the URL I typed in,

so it had done a successful DNS lookup.

WHat I did so far
Disabled firewall and antivirus. No effect. Checked INternet radio connection thru keyboard (Fn|F2). No effect.
I tried to PING a site and that's where it got weird. I could ping any .com domain, but any other extension would

result in a TTL timeout.So I could ping microft.com, but not microsoft.es.
I then tethered my phones data connection. Same problem. Let the Internet Connection Wizard do its magic and it came

back with a message that it had reinstalled the Wireless adapter. Suddenly it worked, I had INternet access.

Reconnected to the wifi and tried the Wizard again. It found nothing wrong, so could not have it reinstall the

driver.
Decided to force it thru Device Manager. Deleted it (without deleting software), let it scan for new hardware ...

and it came back with an error message saying it was unable to install it. It left a yellow triangle in front of the

Atheros 9485 entry. Then deleted it again, this time with deleting the software and tried to reinstall the same

driver (same and only version) I downloaded from the Asus web site (WLAN_Atheros_PNP_Win7_64_Z920458.zip).
It asked if I wanted to install the Azure (?) driver, said Yes and after a while it came back with a popup saying

'Error', no more.
In device MAnager, the Atheros .... line is now of course missing, and I now also have a yellow triangle in front of Other devices|Network adapter (think this is the

correct translation, have Spanish version, it says Otros dispositivos|Controladora de red).
The Internet icon in systray now has a red X and no longer lists any available wifi routers either.

Is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem and get wireless connections back?

Thanks in advance,
Giri

[SOLVED] Password corruption, need advice

We have an HP laptop that sat unused for about a year. The last time it was used we remember it shutting down itself after a large update from Microsoft. Two days ago we turned it on and it denies our admin password as valid. My gf and I both know this password, it has never changed and always been the one used for it. No one else has touched this laptop. She bought it new and only we ever used it or had access.

Near as I can tell, I can go with a hack or just lose all her pictures and links with a wipe and re-install or upgrade to win 10. If there is an option otherwise, I need to hear it.

But, my secondary concern is how in the heck this can happen? Is there another issue that allowed it to happen or caused it I need to check on and watch out for? A virus or something? Or was it probably just a bad update? I know I had one on my main comp that I had to restore to a prior save point it was so bad.

Please advise, and also let me know if there is a way I can download win 10 to it and manage an install/upgrade myself being unable to get into admin to fix this password issue. We cannot lightly pay geek squad or something like that to do this if we can manage it ourselves. I am at my wits end after trying to learn what to do for two days now.

I know, I know, I have been beaten up by other sites in my search for asking this. It is not stolen, it is OUR laptop, we bought it new and I am asking coz she knows even less about computers. No drama or crime happening here beyond a password it doesn't recognize anymore, and we do not know why.

Thanks for reading. ~Micah

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (tcpip.sys) Windows 8.1

I've been getting random BSOD lately with different errors, mostly CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION ones with different errors on the end e.g. tcpip.sys

Lately, my network adapter has been getting messed up, it says I have no option to connect to wifi (acts as if there was no wifi nic connected) and the only way to fix this is to reinstall my wireless nic drivers.

I have a Lenovo g50-45 windows 8.1 laptop 64-bit OS

Any ideas? Don't really wanna reinstall but I will if it's a last option.

Hi guys,

About a month ago i switched from vista to win 7 on my dell optiplex 755. It worked fine until few days ago it got weird. When i boot up i would have a blank screen and the fans spin wildly on the CPU.

I reset the RAM, changed the BIOS - CR 2032 battery while i was at it too. Even left it sitting for a few days without any battery.

Now i keep getting error "Floppy diskette seek failure"

I went into BIOS settings and disabled diskette drive - No joy

It booted up a few times with the win 7 CD in but other than that - No joy

I re-installed win 7 - No joy

I even went into Ctrl - p while booting and changed the main password there - No joy

Is there any hope or is there something serious wrong with the MOBO??

Thanks for any help in advance

Worked fine yesterday. Switched it on about an hour ago and the screen read,

"Reboot and select proper boot media. Insert boot media and press any key"

I have tried a variety of discs "W7 repair", a store bought W7 install disc even found the "Asus 6core repair disc" I made when I built the PC (Asus MOBO AMD 3.5G black 6core CPU) All but the install disc shows "This version of System Recovery Option is not compatible with this version of Windows 7".

The only disc that got me anywhere was a W7/64 download from Msoft which gave me the repair option once but did not work. Back to "Reboot and select....."

I even got part way through an install process only to be told "Cannot use this drive because it is the GPT Partition style". Right Monkey! I found a drive I had removed working fine from another PC with W7 on it. Will not boot from it and still is said to be of a GDT partition.

I have an image of the drive on a USB 3.0 drive but I cannot even get into Safe Mode to access it.

Is the MOBO borked?

Bios frozen

I set a BIOS password. This worked, whenever I enter my BIOS it asks for a password, but now I can only access the settings to change said password, change the time and date, shutdown, or exit the BIOS. Everything else is greyed out and can't be selected. I read that some laptops keep you from making changes in the BIOS, but I was able to do it before I set the password. This probably won't be too big a deal, but I may need to change the boot priority or something at some point, so I'd like to fix it.

If it helps, my BIOS is by American Megatrends Inc.

Thanks in advance.

Windows Update stuck at loading screen, can't update Java

So I'm having some problems with Windows Update...this is my parent's computer and I do scan regularly with Avast and Malwarebytes- no threats.

I go to update Windows Updates and it just stays on the loading screen...with 0% progress....however...from time to time I notice when I go to shut down the computer I get one of those icons on my shut down button that you sometimes get from updates so I don't know what's going on...I get that icon and at shut down it says updates 1 of 1 are installing do not turn off your computer, but then after reboot when I go back to Windows Updates it's now 1 less, so I had 14 updates now I have 11 but I still never saw the progress bar! nothing! there was no indication that updates were being installed it was always at 0% I waited over 5 hours- almost all day.

I'm just confused, and now it's saying I have 10 updates and again it's just stuck at the loading screen, no progress..
can anyone help me out with this?

My dad said he also noticed the computer running a bit slow/ even boot up is slow.

Also, Java, I cannot get it to install, I get the pop up window in my taskbar to install updates but when I click it nothing happens, this I have problems with even on my personal laptop, I can't ever seem to install Java updates because it won't open! what is going on...with this program..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I just wanted to add that I'v also been experiencing some loading problems with webpages, I keep getting an error page and some pages I can't load for a while..it took me a very long time to be able to post here, and took me a while to load google even..sometimes they load ok but other times....unable to load for some reason, took a screenshot to show you..maybe that has something to do with updates not being able to load and install..:/

Double sound in all three video players!

Hello.

How to fix ... Double sound in all three video players - GOM, KM and Windows MP. Only Media Player Classic shows best, all best sound.

Please, tell me if I am doing anything wrong here...

I've installed Codecs Pack for WMP (version Full) when I had no KM, I am handling KM at the moment. Then I've installed KM and put it as default, so both KM and WMP can produce all sounds and codecs of all various formats. It is stated so now.

I wish to know what are the total best minimum here, - how you guys use it, especially techs. To leave only KM active, or what? Help...

And, I was thinking it's Codecs Pack fault as it's already enouph... or a driver. Thanks.
