I know what I have to do I just confused on how best to do it

I hope this is the right area. I have windows 7 sp1 64 bit. Two weeks ago Secunia software manager told me Microsoft SQL Server 2005 compact edition is at end of life and is viewed as a critical security threat as a hacker can gain access to your computer. I spent three days spinning looking at links and every links seemed to give me a different answer. I want to uninstall it but I have concerns. Is there a background program that works with Microsoft server? If so it won't be able to work and will that be a issue. Do I need to go into the registry to uninstall things in there in order to uninstall Microsoft server? I have Revo Pro Uninstaller. Is there more programs or items that have to be uninstalled besides Microsoft server. And will it make windows a problem after I do it? I do not want to install the upgrade to it. I would like to run without it if I can. It's a security risk at the highest level and i want it gone, everyday I think about it being a security risk. Need help and advice

[SOLVED] Unable to boot from USB Pavilion Slimline PC 400-314

Hi,

I'm trying to install Win 7 from a (know good working) USB flashdrive. The desktop is a USB Pavilion Slimline PC 400-314 with WIN 10 already on it. I've attempted to go into the Boot Menu (using Esc) to access the Boot Menu but I don't see the USB in there (see attached).

Also tried going into BIOS & have made USB Hdd the first but still no luck (see attached). It just boots normally into Win 10. Once in Win10, it see's the USB drive. I tried both the front & rear USB ports. I know the drive is good because because I just installed/booted from it yesterday on another machine.

I've also made sure all USB ports are enabled unless there is some setting preventing a boot from USB?

Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.

Can run bat from profile temp directory

HI

I have a bat file that is copied to users profile temp directory whic I remotely execute to gather support diagnostic info

On some machines it does not launch. I remoted onto same machine and tried to launch manually but still would not launch and i seen error

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item."

I copied the bat to the user desktop and it ran just fine.

Its the same antivirus on each machine and I cant see why it would work on some and not others.

There are no restrictions on running bat files

It seems to not want to run from the users c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\temp directory.

I cant figure out why.

'up' arrow on keyboard appears to be stuck, but only when playing a game?

Hi,

So I've recently bought a few new games in one bundle and was excited to play them until, as the title suggests, the up arrow started freaking out and acted as if it was stuck in the main menu of Enter the Gungeon. After forcing my way through the menu to the main game, my character started walking upwards no matter what I did. I then tested with another game and had the same result.

I've tried three separate keyboards, three separate games, obviously i rebooted immediately, I've tried system restore, none of which have worked.

After looking up the problem, I've found people experiencing similar symptoms who managed to get around it by changing the power settings on their keyboard through control panel, turning off a 'USB auto-suspend' option that apparently was making keyboards stick after five seconds of non-use in a game. This didn't work for me however, as for some reason the 'change settings' button doesn't appear for me, even though I am an administrator on my computer, and my keyboard always behaves (in-game, anyway) as if 'up' is stuck, rather than sticking after five seconds. I managed to find the 'auto-suspend' option people were discussing through device manager and turn it off, but that had no effect whatsoever.

These articles have been my main resources so far, so that should give a bit of perspective on the nature of the problem and what I know about it/have tried so far. If anyone can think of anything not mentioned there that's worth trying, I'd be incredibly grateful.

I'm not fantastically experienced with tech support stuff so I might need my hand holding a little bit, but I'll be glad to provide any information anyone thinks could help.

Thanks!
Ben

Win7 Login Hacker Installed Password App

$

Grandson allowed a phony "fixit service" access to my Win7 installation. They installed some kind of non-windows login password tool (he saw a "logmein" logo on the screen). They wanted $100 to unlock my OS. I can see all my files from a 2nd install partition, & thankfully all my data is intact.

I've tried a couple of the standard tricks which replace the Win7 Password file with the DOS command file, but the Win7 login box is not the real Windows box, which means that they have somehow redirected the path to some 2nd party login app containing the hacker password.

Is there some way I can re-redirect the login path back to the standard Win7 procedure?

My PC thinks I have devices I don't have but doesn't recognise what I do have.

My PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64. My mobile is a Windows 'phone running Windows 8.1 (update 2) I have Dropbox synced between the two.
And yet the PC thinks that I have two other devices which I don't have and cannot recognise the Windows 'phone - even when they are connected by cable and that connection works perfectly well.

This is making it impossible for me to be active on Instagram (as one example although I did set up an account on a previous Android 'phone) and to connect apps I have on the PC to the mobile.

Can someone please tell me how to stop the PC seeing what is not there and see what is there?

Yes, I know that I will need to upgrade to Windows 10 which I know is needed for the Instagram app.but that is not the immediate problem.

Internet works in safe mode w/ networking but not normal mode

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and really hoping you can help me :)

My internet has not been working on my laptop, which happened very suddenly 2-3 days ago. The connection is fine on my other computer and phone, so I know its not the internet itself. Even on the laptop, it SAYS the wifi is connected, but its not working. Firefox was instantly crashing, it wouldn't even bring up the browser window. Chrome gives me a "DNS address not found" error for every site I try and IE wont load anything.

I've tried flushing my DNS, using that ipconfig /refresh and /renew thing. I've tried troubleshooting the wifi connection, disabling/enabling it. I ran a Malware Bytes scan and only found a couple of "pup" programs/cookies that have been deleted. Currently running a SuperAntiSpyware scan.

The thing is, I tried using the internet in Safe Mode with Networking and it works just fine! So that means a program or something on my computer is causing it, right? There were issues with my Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface driver the other day, it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, but I did a couple of fixes that I found on help sites and that exclamation is gone now.

Please help, I really want to use my laptop on the internet again ;_;

Oh, and the specs for my comp are:
Lenovo Win7 PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
Windows 7 - 64 bit operating system

Power button turns yellow instead of blue

$

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 (desktop) with Vista Home Premium. Until the other day, when I pushed the power button to start the PC, it turned blue and the PC went through the boot-up process. Now, it turns yellow and nothing happens unless I do more. So I push and hold the power button until it turns off. Then, I push the button a bit more strongly and it turns blue and boots.

My first thought was that the power switch for this 2008 PC is getting old and that I may become unable to boot at all. So I have decided to just let it go into sleep mode for now rather than turning it off for the day.

Any ideas on solving the yellow light issue?

Windows 10 virus

I left this machine (hp pavilion laptop, Win 7) idle yesterday with my work open (But saved). Numerous apps running, but just using one (chrome). Several hours later I returned to "Welcome to Windows 10". I suspect that I knew how I had left myself open to this infection, but was not pleased. I entered my password and was taken to "agree and get back to work or decline and we'll restore you, but that will be tomorrow or the next day". So I agreed. Once back to home/desktop EVERY app that had been running was closed. I opened Chrome (did I say I'd saved?) and my business was nowhere to be found. (i.e. I was unable to restore connection to page in prior paused state.) I just shut it all down. Now I have rebooted. I no longer have the option to simply decline the Eula on 'ten' and get back to my beloved 'seven'. Now that I have been tortured and coerced, in order to get back to seven I'll have to do something hard. Like reinstall it myself. One, I just wonder if any of you know of an easier way, two I want to make sure that no matter how pretty or useful it is, Windows 10 is a VIRUS. Note that the entire infection took place without my knowledge or consent, indeed without my involvement in any way. In a just world, all users of ten would dump it so that Microsoft would be exposed as the worst virus bringer in history. If every one did that Microsoft would probably have to pay people to install ten. At the very least we could get a class action settlement. I know its not likely to happen, but when y'all get the next infection and it harms you, then you will wish you had listened to me.

I'm trying to revive an old laptop to give to a Senior Citizen. I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 Laptop that originally came with Windows XP Professional. I upgraded the operating system to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and have not had sound since. The laptop uses AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-44 2.4 GHz. Today I downloaded and installed Realtek Driver 6.0.1.6305 dated 6/19/2009. I purchased this computer in 2005. Now I get the message, "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." I got this driver plus 5 others from SlimDrivers. All worked except this one. I also have the red circle with the white X beside the speaker. Can anyone help?

Word docs sent or received as attachments in Windows Live Mail are opening in WordPad

$

Until recently I could open Word documents attached to emails sent or received in Windows Live Mail. Suddenly this has stopped.

Other file types e.g. Excel still open if I double click on them or choose open - up comes a box that asks 'do you want to open this file? and I simply click 'open'. But for the past week or so I have been unable to open attached Word documents. If I double click on the word doc or click open the document opens in Wordpad. I have spent hours looking online and trying to sort this out.

Can anyone help me please? I want to be able to double click or hit the 'open' option and have the document open in Word, like it used to. I know I can use 'save as ' but it's more time consuming.

Can anyone think why this would just change like this?

[SOLVED] Can't find Dell ram settings location

Dell Optiplex 980 SFF
Intel core 2 duo 660 3.3, 64bit
BIOS version A 16 (latest) and reset defaults.
W7 pro

I bought this Optiplex refurb on ebay and it works pretty good with 4 gigs of DDR3-12800 ram. After removing the old memory I installed 8gb Patriot Signature series (2x4)and it works better and shaved a few seconds off boot time. Now I need to set the timing but I cannot find the settings.

I've set the timing on other computers (mostly with Asus motherboards). I've searched the BIOS over and over and Googled everything I could think of but nobody ever mentions where the settings can be located. I've checked the Dell tech and user manuals until I have sensory overload but still no luck.

Since this was a business computer could they have eliminated the ability to tamper with the memory settings?

Anyway, if someone would be kind enough to just steer me in the right direction so I can ascertain if they actually exist I would be most appreciative.

Hello,

My Toshiba Satellite is unable to login to windows and the startup repair doesn't seem to do anything but only showing 'Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically.' as soon as it starts

I saw a similar solved thread here 'http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-startup-repair-cannot-repair-this-computer-automatically-768938.html' with some difference than mine in the problem signature (my 07: is bad driver).. I did as what was said at first posts but when I typed 'sfc /scannow /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=c:\windows' I had different results as it loads up with the texts thats shown in the attached pic. What should I do next?

Thanks in advance

For context my manager was trying to revert to windows 7 from 10. The PC tried startup repair, didn't work so I put a fresh Win 7 ISO on a USB and booted from that in the hopes the repair would work.

Also tried a simple system restore but there are no usable restore points it seems.

Any help greatly appreciated as this is the main business PC.
