Hi All,
My windows 7 freezes and stops responding every now and then.I have checked the events and found the following message occurs at the time it happens:

"The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period."

I have re partitioned and re installed the OS with minimum softwares and latest drivers.

I have scanned the system with Avast AV at boot time.

I did some google and updated registry values for LPMSTATE,LPMDSTATE and LPM.
I have also changed the Advance power setting for PCI as off.

still the issues is not solved , kindly help and guide me.

My system specs:

Files will not delete from flash drive

I am having a problem deleting a folder with about 302 files in it on my flash drive. It doesn't matter if I right click and select delete or if I highlight the folder and hit delete on my keyboard, both cases it asks me if I want to permanently delete the folder, I click "yes" but nothing happens. The folder does not delete, no error message of any kind, just nothing happens. It is as if I never told it to delete. All I could find on Google were people with various error messages but I didn't find anybody where no error message occurs and nothing happens.

Anybody know what the problem could be?

[SOLVED] Windows Explorer (Windows 7) mess

I've had a button for Windows Explorer on my Taskbar set to open to a specific directory for years and it worked fine.

Somehow today I messed that up (probably when I was right-clicking to open another Windows Explorer window at the same time as the first) and I completely lost my Windows Explorer button from the Taskbar. Wish I knew how that had happened so I don't do it again!

In my efforts to recreate a new Explorer button on the Taskbar and have it open each time to the specific directory called ST in Favorites, I ended up with the directory itself (instead of a shortcut) listed in the pane beneath the Recycle Bin, which means I can't remove the ST directory without deleting my actual directory.

Yes, I have succeeded in getting Explorer to open to the ST directory, but not the one in Favorites. So this means that after the window opens it leaves me at the bottom of the pane near the Recycle Bin instead of at the bottom of my list of Favorites, as it used to. (Yes, I know Favorites is not the preferred method and Libraries is, but I still prefer Favorites.)

When I dragged the ST directory from the bottom of the list to Favorites in Explorer, it made a shortcut for me ST(2). If I click on the one in Favorites, it opens a separate window from the one at the bottom of the list (even though it's set to open each directory in the same window).

Questions:

1. How do I get rid of the directory called ST at the bottom of the pane without deleting the directory itself?

2. How do I get Windows to open to the shortcut for ST in Favorites?

Please let me know if you need me to explain it further.

I really appreciate your help. It's not an easy problem to just google.

Sony VAIO S Series Laptop: Graphics Driver Problem

Hey so I have a Sony VAIO S Series Laptop Model (VPCSB11FX) on Windows 7 and I have a graphics driver issue. My laptop comes with switchable graphics (Integrated Intel 3000 and AMD Radeon HD 7400m) and I want to use the AMD graphics card. So I disabled my integrated intel and switched it over to the AMD one in the driver manager, however it says that theres is no driver even though in the manager it says my drivers are up to date. This makes it very confusing for me.

Many desktop icons gone and wallpaper no longer displaying?

$

Hi All,

I am facing a strange issue in Windows 7. This morning when I turned my computer on the background wallpaper was missing, and most (but not all) desktop icons were missing.

The desktop icons in question include recent Excel and Word documents that I have not backed up elsewhere!

I first performed a System Restore in the hope of getting everything back to normal. However unfortunately this did not help.

After this I checked the Recycle Bin and found a number of files which had originally come from the desktop. I clicked on these and selected 'Restore', doing so presented a message to the affect of "The Desktop already has this file, do you want to replace it''; to which I responded with 'Do not copy' (or similar) - in essence cancelling the Restore operation.

Strangely now when I look at the desktop I see the files that I restored from the Recycle Bin. But I am still not seeing many of the files that seemed to have 'disappeared' (which primarily consists of more recent files that I never sent to the Recycle Bin).

I have removed the hard drive and connected it to a second computer in order to scan for viruses; so far AVG Ultimate has found none, and MalwareBytes is a fair way through scanning without yet detecting any threats.

Assuming that the issue I am presented with is not being caused by a virus can anybody offer any other possible causes and / or ways to fix the issue?

Kind Regards,

Davo

How do I restart the service needed and why isn't it running?

Hi, im kinda new to this forum so im not sure where I should be posting this so I decided to post it here.

For the past week or so, my PC has been randomly restarting occasionally and I have no idea why, It has been giving me no BSOD except for this one time where it gave me error 0x124, so I cleaned my dust filters and the issue stopped for a few days, but it just restarted again. It happened about 4 times in the past week, 2 of them on the same day.

Specs (not sure if this is necessary):
Asus z97a motherboard
i7-4770k not overclocked
2x8gb 2133hz RAM
Corsair HX750i PSU
Two GTX 970s in SLI (MSI and Gigabyte)
2x 256gb SSD for boot drive/programs
3tb WD Green for random files

Thanks to everyone in advance :3

WLM contacts to W10

We useto use Windows Live Mail on our Windows 7 Premium computer until the hard drive quit. We bought a new computer a week ago - Windows 10, and I would like to know if it is possible to get our contacts from our portable hard drive where I had done a System back up a few months ago. The portable hard drive is iomega and it uses EASEUS BACKUP TODO.
I can see a file called: live mail contact list, but I don't see anything in there. That doesn't mean there isn't anything in the folder or does it?

Go to Sleep? Not?

My machine, according to the control panel, is set to turn off the display in 10 minutes and go to sleep in 15.
It used to do that and stopped, apparently when I got the speech recognition to work.
No I can tell it to sleep and it will, but will not do it automatically even when the speech recognition is turned off completely.
What is the connection?

Had to format computer not got tons of Driver issues.

Firstly a bit of info, I'm fairly ok when it comes to computers, I've never really learned/studied anything about them but just picked up general knowledge over the years of using them, but I'm not that confident in things like opening the computer up and such, not very wealthy so always paranoid I'll end up breaking something :s

So anyway I had to reformat my computer a couple of days ago, I was in a call with some friends when suddenly my computer shutdown and when I started it up gain it went to Startup Repair but couldn't repair it.

So I format everything and since then I've just had numerous issues with Drivers and such.

Firstly I'm having problems installing some programs because "Windows Installer" doesn't seem to be working (also Windows Update but I assume that's related?) when I go to "msconfig" it's listed there but it's listed as "Stopped" but is ticked, I've unticked it and reticked it and got the "Restart" box and did that but it changed nothing.

I goggled and tried numerous solutions, a lot of "cmd" prompts and such but none of that worked either (and I'm very sure that I did it correctly).

I've been unable to install some programs because of this, such as Skype (it just essentially says it can't find or load "Microsoft Installer") for example which really sucks since it's how I talk to most of my online friends.

Another problem I'm having at the moment is to do with one of my Hard Drives thats inside the computer, it shows up in "Device Manager" but nowhere else, I can't access it or anything like that and that contained most of my important files, I'd really like to be able to access it again, preferably without needing to format it.

Those are my two main problems, the rest are fairly minor outside that (and I imagine most will be fixed if I can get "Windows Installer" working).

Anywho it's nearly 3am for me so I'm going to sleep now so I'll check any replies when I wake up.

Thanks a lot in advance for any help, it's much appreciated.

[SOLVED] Changed CMOS Batter, Now Windows 7 Frozen at Logo Screen

Currently, I'm using my tablet to type this, so please excuse the typos. So earlier today, I changed the CMOS battery. Then I restarted my computer and it first got stick at the Starting Windows screen. But I managed to fix that. I then managed to get I to Windows, but it said it couldn't locate the H: drive, which was 4 tb. I later figured out that I needed to update the bios, so I used Safe Mode with Networking and got the file and did the bios update. I then restarted my computer and it got as far as the Blue Windows Logo Screen...actually that's the wallpaper for my desktop. Basically, it got past the Starting Windows and froze on the next screen. I'm unable to use the mouse. There's no start menu or anything except the wallpaper.

I've tried numerous things such as in bios, switching the RAID mode to the AHCI. That made things slightly smoother, but when I got to windows 7, it was still the same.

I also tried removing the ram and reseating them. I made sure the cables were all secure.

In safe mode, I have access to my 4tb H: drive.

Part of me thinks I should reinstall windows 7, but all I really did was change the battery.

I'm also wondering if I may of damaged the video card.

I'm pretty good with computers, but this time I think I'm at a loss.

I need an MS hotfix

Specifically, I'm getting this:

Quote:

System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
at Assistant.ClientCommunication.Load(String exe, String dll, String func, Void* dllData, Int32 dataLen, UInt32& pid)
at Assistant.ClientCommunication.LaunchClient(String client)
at Assistant.Engine.Main(String[] Args)
I did some searching and I see it's not exclusive to the program I'm trying to open, it must a corrupt dll file, or some other system file, as neither reinstalling the program, nor system restore corrected it. The program I'm trying to use is called razor which is used with Ultima Online. I'm not a developer, it's just the program will not open and displays this message instead. I came across this page

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/975954

unfortunately the link to the hotfix is broken, know anywhere else I could get it?

Win7 Pro boot problem

My tower PC has 2 ssd's installed, one for Fedora and one for Win7 Pro. It was working fine 2 days ago. I switched from Win7 to Fedora for a few minutes and when I switched back to Win7 it wouldn't boot. Error is "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" The boot device in UEFI is set to the Windows ssd.
I have the original Win7 Pro install DVD so I tried to do a repair from it but it tells me "This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows." Win7 Pro won't work with Win7 Pro???
I bought another HD, disconnected all the other storage devices in the PC, and installed Win7 Pro on the new HD. It installed fine but it's missing loads of drivers and updates, where my existing version was up to date. Might that be the mismatch the recovery software is seeing? I made a recovery disk when we built this PC 2 or 3 years ago but so far I've not been able to locate it.
A scan for updates on the newly installed Win7 has been running for three hours and still isn't finished.
I'm about one step above a complete novice with Windows so any help/encouragement would be appreciated!
