I have only found this unnecessary feature very annoying since every time I open a file using many (not all) 3rd party programs, it usually opens this 'Library' directory. I have removed Libraries from Explorers left side navigation pane, but the reference is still there.
The exceptions are programs that allow specifying a open/save to location.

I am having a problem with the way Windows Explorer displays one of my folders. The folder is stored under Documents>Personal. The title of the folder is LETTERS. The folder, until a few days ago, contained a subfolder called "Spain". All letters pertaining to Spain were stored in the subfolder; all other letters were stored by themselves in LETTERS. A few days ago I found all letters that were in the Spain subfolder were now combined with all other letters. The subfolder Spain no longer existed. It took me many hours to get this straightened out. For one thing, I could no longer create a new folder within the LETTERS folder. A computer technician I contacted told me that was because the LETTERS folder was READ-ONLY. Unchecking this property didn't help, so I created another dummy folder to transfer all the files in LETTERS to the dummy folder, delete LETTERS and rename the dummy folder as LETTERS. This apparently solved the problem until today: the subfolder Spain is now gone again and all letters are now combined in one folder. Just out of curiosity I brought up the DOS command and looked in USERS...DOCUMENTS>PERSONAL DOCUMENTS>LETTERS. A dir command showed the SPAIN subdirectory plus all the non-SPAIN letters, exactly the way it should be. My question: why doesn't Windows Explorer show the SPAIN subfolder and why does it combine all letters--SPAIN and non-SPAIN--together?

Hello all. As the title of my post shows, Windows Update has been running for about 3 days now and has not found anything to download. It seems like it's in some sort of loop.

I recently reinstalled W7 on my PC. As it normally does, Windows Update ran and found a few updates and installed them, one of them being SP1. After that, it's been in the current situation.
I've rebooted the computer multiple times to see if the would help. I've shut it down and powered back on. I've stopped and restarted the Windows Update Service. Nothing has changed. I know there's more updates for my computer to download as before I reinstalled Windows it had a ton of updates in the history over 5-6 yrs that I've had the computer.
Before posting I did some searching online and found a few sites with recommendations but I wanted to get the expert opinion of the TSF community.

Optiplex 745 Vista Premium SP2
All of a sudden Bing is hijacking Google search.
I have not installed Bing.
I do not have a Bing toolbar.
I have deleted every reference of Bing from my computer.
I never use IE, but I checked it. Bing was the default search. I added Google and removed Bing and made Google the default search. It did not help.
I found a cookie for Bing and deleted it. Twice Google searched and then it went back to Bing.
I did a system restore to before the Bing takeover. It did no good.
Bing does not show up in Auto runs.
Bing does not show up in Hijack this.
Bing is not in Firefox add ons
I found one instance of Bing Search in the registry and deleted it. It did no good.
Google says a sure way to get a Google search is to search from a Google address bar. It does not help.
When I type a search subject, I get a blank page with Google in the address bar. It immediately changes to Bing. Then the page fills in.
I put Bing in the Hosts file. Now, it switches from Google to Bing in the address bar. When it does, I get Unable To Connect. Now, I can't search at all unless I take Bing out of the hosts file.
Google was my default search engine, but I did use Bing a lot. Never again, just as soon as I stop this hijacking. What shall I do? Would removing Internet Explorer help?

I recently upgraded my PC from an AMD board & CPU to a Skylake system. The specs are as follows...
CPU: i7 6700k
MB: MSI Z170 Krait Gaming 3x
GPU: Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1080*
SSD: Corsair 525GB MX300 (and a 1TB seagate hybrid drive)
PSU:*EVGA Supernova NEX 650w
RAM: Corsair DDR4 16GB Vengeance LPX*
Problem: My hard drive, being leftover from the other computer, still has Windows 7 on it (which won't boot because of the old drivers). This shouldn't be a problem though, as I want to install a fresh copy of Windows on my SSD. However, every time I try to launch the windows 7 setup*(either in the form of a bootable USB or a bootable CD) it crashes after "Windows is Loading Files", around the time the four dots come together on the starting windows page. No crash message, just a sudden shutdown. *
I've tried to:
Boot with one Ram Stick
Boot with XMP turned on
Boot with integrated graphics
Boot setup in safe mode (which worked, but it can't complete the installation in safe mode and it won't boot outside of it)
Format my SSD to GPT
Boot old HDD in safe mode (which does work, but only for about a minute until it freezes and becomes inoperable)
Install the latest version of BIOS on my MB
I'm at a bit of a loss... Not sure if this is hardware or software related; in fact, I have not the slightest clue what this is related to at all. Am I missing anything?

hp desktop/WIN7os
have scanned TAX documents into computer; apparently "locked" them; also transferred to disk.....NOW I CANT GET BACK INTO THEM!
I have 2 user ids: one is administrative, other "everyday"
I dont quite understand when its asking for "creator or admin"; ok here's what is said (3 different problems:
1. doc ms word: word cannot open doc; user doesnt have access privileges to "name of doc"
2. on excel doc: cannot open file "name of file".xlsx" because format or ext isnt valid. verify file isnt corrupt and ext matches format of file.
3. on photos: windows photo viewer cant open; dont have correct permissions to access file location
sorry if these problems arent in right forum...just dont know how to get back into these files! need to do so, they and the pics are important.
thanks for any help!:confused: oh ps....I'm a oldster so not real savvy on these (like privileges, etc)

I am super panicked at the moment. The 2-hr meeting recording I made today just will not play. And it turned into some Janet Jackson song? What is this?
Anyone had the same problem?
I recorded it using the Sound Recorder in the laptop.
The file is there, length is correct, just won't play and has this Janet Jackson thing in the properties.
Anyone could help me with this?

I have an unusual situation regarding one of my folders. The folder is called LETTERS. It contains letters not related to SPAIN and a subfolder SPAIN of letters sent to various organizations in SPAIN. I can display the LETTERS folder two different ways:
1. Bring up Windows Explorer.
Click on Documents in the left pane.
Click on Personal Documents, left pane.
Click on LETTERS, right pane.
2. Bring up Windows Explorer.
Click on Libraries in the left pane.
]Click on Documents icon, right pane.
Click on Personal Documents, right pane.
Click on LETTERS, right pane
If I use option 1, I see the SPAIN subfolder and all the non-Spain letters.
]If I use option 2, I see all Spain letters and non-Spain letters all together and no SPAIN subfolder.
My question: Why would Windows Explorer show the contents of a folder two different ways depending on how it is accessed? If I look at this folder using CMD prompt commands (cd, dir, etc.), the folder appears normal. I have found no other folder on my system that displays differently depending on how it is accessed.

So. I was using dual monitors until recently, as i found out my motherboard has been malfunctioning, i swapped it out for something remotely identical so everything i had inside would still run, changed 4gb of ram to be the same type also, but with all the settings it wont work. I tried swapping either on the motherboard or on the video card, they wont do, only the first vga type display ( need an adaptor) works, if i connect any of the monitors on the second slot of the video card or on the motherboard, the second screen will stay black, and the led flash blue, opposed to saying no signal as its not connected. So overall it shows its connected but the pc either from desktop or from the amd center ( using a radeon 6900) wont detect the second screen, Ill update more info and specs if needed, please help ~

Hi guys,
I'm trying to fix an old PC here and i had to change the motherboard. Long time ago i had windows vista which was corrupted and the PC sat idle for a long time and the motherboard went bad so after changing the mobo i decided to install Windows 7. I did everything such as setting DVD Drive as 1st boot device.
Now, the problem is that when i select boot from CD/DVD, it blinks for 2 secs and gives error "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. File: \windows\system32\winload.exe. Status: 0xc000000f.
I'm not trying to start the corrupted vista here but trying to install fresh windows 7. I tried to boot from Bootable usb drive but it gives me error file: \Boot\BCD Status: 0xc000000e.
Sorry if i wrote too much. You guys are my only hope.
Motherboard is : HP dx2000 MT

I am 100% disabled due to multiple surgeries over the past year and am unable to view the multiple image disks on my Win 7 machine.
The disks can be viewed on my neurosurgeons MAC in his office but not on my Win 7 machines at home. The is an executable called GEARView on the Disks however it will not install on my machine(s).
I've tried compatibility mode and everything else I can thank of but with no luck thus far.
Does anyone know of a work-around or an application I can download to enable me to see the images of my back, neck and both knees?

Suddenly I can no longer map a folder on a network drive. The [Browse] folder option is greyed out.
Is there a fix ?

I left the pc on for a week and it didnt happen , it randomly freezes when im playing WoW, the sound freezes as well. I tried to check whocrashed and it doesn't show anything , i have hwmonitor but i don't know what to make of the temps showing , i replaced my 2x 2gb rams with 2x4gb rams and a new graphic card nividea GE 730 , i have an i5 2310 cpu @ 2.90ghz 2.90 ghz
and running windows 7 ultimate ( about the windows i was getting a message that my windows was not genuine and i need to enter the cd key, but for the past week im not getting that message anymore not sure if it has anything to do with the freezing)
To be more specific with the freezing it randomly happens sometimes twice in an hour sometime once a day , everything freezes no response from anything as well as the sound and the only way to restart is by turning off my PSU.
If someone can help me it would be great.

Wasn't sure if this should go here or in the Browser Section so apologies if it should be elsewhere .
Having had some issues with Firefox and also Chrome I decided to try Internet Explorer .
Twice I have downloaded IE 11 from a Microsoft source and it appears to have downloaded and installed with no problems but when I click the "about" button it comes up as it being IE9
How can that possibly be ....can anyone suggest a solution?

I'm not sure where the problem might lie here. I suspect my O.S. A couple of days ago all of the freeware I have received through IK Multimedia has stopped working properly. All other vst's seem to be unaffected. Even the purchased ones from IK Multimedia such as T-Racks they all still work. the rest..
This applies to;
Sample tank
Miroslav
Sample Tron
Sonik Synth2
Sample Moog do this when I try to open them; First Pic., then the second pic
The only thing different I can think of, I have done recently is I had a problem with a Windows security update that wouldn't download. I had to finally download a .netframe download to fix the problem. That it did.
Anyone can help me here? I've tried to re-download at least one vst to see if that would alleviate the problem. It didn't.

Hi,
It has been on automatic for a few weeks and still nothing new. The MSE isn't updating right now but it usually does once it goes past the weekly scan date and gives me a warning.
Is there a fix for this yet?
