Hello,

I'm not sure where the problem might lie here. I suspect my O.S. A couple of days ago all of the freeware I have received through IK Multimedia has stopped working properly. All other vst's seem to be unaffected. Even the purchased ones from IK Multimedia such as T-Racks they all still work. the rest..
This applies to;
Sample tank
Miroslav
Sample Tron
Sonik Synth2
Sample Moog do this when I try to open them; First Pic., then the second pic

The only thing different I can think of, I have done recently is I had a problem with a Windows security update that wouldn't download. I had to finally download a .netframe download to fix the problem. That it did.
Anyone can help me here? I've tried to re-download at least one vst to see if that would alleviate the problem. It didn't.

Thanks, Ron

Need to upgrade to Win 7

I'm currently running Vista Home Premium.
I need to upgrade to Win 7 - trying to install a new HP printer and software for it is not supported by Vista.
Anyway, where can I get Win 7?

I doubt if Microsoft is offering it free, but I'm sure my system will support it.

Thanks.

Mixing colors and PC shuting down in normal mode but not in safe mode

Hi all,

I am not sure if this is a right section to post this because I am not sure what the problem is, witch is a main problem in itself.

Couple of days ego my PC started having all kind of problems, both hardware ones and software ones, I have a decent level of knowledge about PCs so I was detecting and slowing one by one but with this one I had hit a wall. I am not sure if a problem I have now is related to the ones I had already solved but since they all started occurring ether at a same time or strain one after another there is a chance they are so I will explain everything that has been happening in those few days with my PC.

First I was playing a game and I noticed in one place in my monitor few black pixels in a line showing up and disappear, I thought that maybe my monitor is going bad but since this didn't occur when I minimized a game I figured it is just a bug in game and I continued playing. After that those small black lines started slowly multiplying and in few hours I had them all over a monitor, and in a canter I would sometimes get pieces of graphic out of place appearing and disappearing just like those lines, as I thought it is just a problem in game I wanted to restart it but when I quit game I had some weird rainbow colored (more like a benzine on sun) lines on a few places on my desktop if I clicked on refresh those lines would disappear and others would appear so I tried restarting my PC and once PC has turned all colors and lines in applications and around windows ware all mixed up and my PC was ruining very slowly. I tried turning of my PC opening it and cleaning it up, especially graphic card as I didn't clean it recently and thought that might be causing problems (And it was absolutely terrible inside, dust, oily, something like mud, and even water was everywhere, I even found a dead mouse in it), after I cleaned it I turned my PC and it was working fine for couple of hours but then there was disappearance of electricity and when it come back and I turned my PC the problem was back and when I tried to restart it it wouldn't turn on, it starts turning on without displaying anything on monitor and just turns off, I tried turning it on several times but it was the same. I tried cleaning it some more but it had no result, so I decided to take it to my friend who has an air compressor to properly clean it up with it, after that my PC still wouldn't turn on but unlike before it wouldn't just start to turn and and shut down but would also start to turn on again. I had a similar problem before so I knew what it is, and that is more dust/dirt in a power supply unit so I opened it for some more cleaning, and I was right as after that it worked normally, for at least couple of hours until my PC just shut down and next problem occurred.
Next problem was similar like the one before it where PC would just shut down when I try to turn it on but this time it would properly start to turn on (displaying everything on monitor), I managed to enter a Bios like that and looked into a PC health and saw that my CPU is running in 90c and jumping up 10c per second before it shut down again (and it is pretty cold in my house 5c-15c). I opened my PC again to try to detect why my CPU is overheating and I found that things that attach my CPU cooler to Motherboard are broken and that cooler stands laxly over CPU. I went and both a new CPU cooler and that solved that problem but when my PC turned on after that my system was all messed up, not with colors like before but most functions didn't work like they should.
I thought that maybe my OS got somehow messed up when my CPU overheated so I tried reinstalling my OS, I done a clean reinstall (formatted a system partition before installing OS from scratch).
That did took care of most problems but some smaller ones ware still there, such as that one of my partitions didn't exist in my computer, I couldn't change a date from 1.1.2008 I was getting some not secure information on every site I tried to visit and some smaller problems like that I managed to solve problem per problem, for Date I just changed date in Bios and that also took care of not save notification I was getting and I simply assigned a letter in computer management to my partition for it to reappear. After some time I solved all problems and my PC worked perfectly for 2 days but without working my screen went black for a moment and when it went back I got a notification "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and there there was a very first problem I had with colors again.
After that every time I turn on a PC colors are all mixed up, there are those rainbow lines across a screen and other visual mistakes, PC also works slowly. I tried googling for "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" and slowing problem but noting I tried had any affect. Couple of times colors got compositely messed up to the point where my screen was just bunch of wired cubes, triangles, lines and dots after witch a PC would give me a blue screen with some warning that I didn't menage to read and shut down. The more I used PC like that the worst it got. In a safe mode whoever my PC works just fine (I am posting this right now from a safe mode). I also tried scaning my PC with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware from safe mode and it did found something and asked me to restart a PC to finish fixing a problem but as after restart it started turning in a normal mode it displayed bunch of rainbow lines and shut down the moment it turned on (at a part After entering a password), when I turned it on in a safe mode again I saw everything it found was in quarantine but the problem was still there so I don't think that is a cause of a problem, if what it found even is a actual malware. But just in case here is a log of what it found:

Now I can't turn on a PC in a normal mode at all, the moment I turn it on I get bunch of reports about all apps that start up with windows crashing after witch more and more of those rainbow lines start showing up and then PC shuts down, after that when I turned it on in a save mode I got this notification:

Does anyone know what a problem could be?

Static freezes/crashes with loud noise

Hi. My Toshiba laptop has been randomly crashing/freezing with colorful static on the monitor and loud static noise from the speakers (usually if I'm on youtube). This has been happening on and off for months. Sometimes it just crashes to a black screen and restarts but often it does the dramatic crashing. I don't have a good connection to go downloading troubleshooting stuff and I have no idea if its the battery, the video card, a virus (because rarely on boot-up the microsoft security essentials is turned off or malwarebytes has an error about root-kits that doesn't come up again when its restarted), or what. I don't know what to google to even start finding answers to this problem and I need help.

Realtek on-board audio low on one drive, ok on the other, same PC

This is NOT the typical low audio out problem with Realtek chipsets which can be mostly fixed with tweaking level, balance & eq. settings. I researched that.

This is on a single PC (tower) with two bootable drives, both running Win 7 from the same original image. The only difference (if you can call it that) is one drive is a SSD, the other a HDD. The 2nd bootable drive is used as a backup. This probalm is a good example why I have this.

The MB is Gigabyte and it's the on board audio chipset that is being used. No other audio. This is using software for playing back mp4 files (LA Player, Pot Player & VLC Player). Doesn't matter which software, nor does it matter which mp4 file, one one drive the audio is fine. The other, the level is down anywhere from 10 to 20 db!

I have updated the driver, but there as no change. It can only be some hidden O/S issue somewhere, but I have no idea what or where. Since everything is the same, the only differences are the system files, possibly including the registry, but that is a long shot. I have been trying different player softwares and I wonder if one of them made some 'hidden' change to the O/S somewhere that it affects the system globally past the user controls.

Any idea here??

Disk Management hangs "loading disk configuration information"

Whenever I go into disk management, disk management is always blank displaying the message "loading disk configuration information" and no drives show up in disk management, not even my C: drive. If I try to close disk management during this message, an error message shows "This application is not responding" until I hit x multiple times. If I right click any of the six drives in my computer, My Computer freezes and then displays the same "This application is not responding" until I hit x a few different times. The rest of the PC works flawlessly. It seems that trying to do anything with disks itself causes this freeze.

this is a Dell Optiplex 780 running Windows 7 64-bit with 8 GB RAM.

Strange problem

OK I have a working updated to SP2 install of Windows Vista on a 600 gig hdd, all updates went just fine except one. KB2763674-x86. I need that hot fix so that I can install Adobe Flash, we use the computer to stream TV shows and movies, and for some reason there's a certificate problem with Microsoft, however automatic updates will not install it if I go to Microsoft. Com and down load the I smaller, if searches for the update forever, and if I install from Microsoft sits the standalone self installer searches for the update forever.
Any help is greatly appreciated, we're outside the range of the little $60 TV antenna, so we pickup 1 station and the is unc kids

Preparing Formatted Windows 7 PC

A long time ago I tried to install Windows XP on my old (2012) PC for retro gaming purposes. I gave up on this endeavor, as it is virtually impossible to find working drivers for XP that will make these modern parts work.

So now, I formatted it again and re-installed 7. Except... the computer is still useless. The GFX card won't work (no drivers), and I can't access the internet as the WiFi receiver thing won't work (no drivers) and it doesn't recognize the ethernet cable either. So, use another computer to download drivers you say? Nope! Because it does not detect the GFX card at all, same with the WiFi thing and the thing that receives the ethernet cable, I have no clue what brand and model these things are. So, I'm screwed. I DEEPLY regret ever thinking about formatting a PC. I'll likely never do it again.

Before I throw this $3000 piece of trash in the garbage, is there any way I can salvage it? Or should I bring it to a computer repair shop and let them figure it out somehow? As you've undoubtedly gathered from my lingo, I know little about computers.

Unable to install .Net Framework rollup KB3205402

This update continually fails.
The installation of .Net Framework 4.6.1 on my Win7 PC is damaged. Repair or uninstall fails with an error. I have tried downloading it manually. When the .exe files are run they are blocked by another condition or not applicable, the .msi is not applicable.

Any help with fixing this issue would be appreciated.

DVD burner stopped working Code 39 error

0
0
About 2 weeks ago, the DVD burner on my uncle’s Windows 7 64-bit computer stopped working and had this error:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

He does not recall having any error messages or other problems around that time. We thought the drive was bad, so we bought a new one (ASUS DRW-24B1ST) and installed it, but still have the same error. I called ASUS, and they sent me this link https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-fix-...errors-2623185.

I’ve reinstalled the driver software. When I try to update the driver software, it says "The best driver software for your device is already installed." The solution about the registry keys says you MUST have UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry for this solution to work. I only have LowerFilters, so I did not delete them. Obviously, replacing the hardware did not solve the problem.

I don’t know what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hidden Files/Folders on External Device

I have an Flash-Based MP3 player (a Cowon M2 if it helps). When I plug it in to the PC (Windows 7, Home Premium) it shows up as an external drive, but only some of the folders/files show up.

I know for a fact that it's operating system is based on Shockwave Flash files, for example, which presumably must be somewhere on the flash drive, but I can't get them to show.

I've tried 'Show Hidden Files' and 'Hide Protected Operating System Files' in the Folder Options but with no effect.

There's no second drive on the device so everything that runs it must be there somewhere.

What could a manufacturer possibly do to hide their system files from anyone opening the flash drive on a PC and is there anything which can be done to un-hide these files?

Thanks.

Help establishing program-file associations

I don't seem to be able to set up a default for Notepad. In Control Panel>Default Programs>Set your default programs Notepad does not appear in the list.
Right clicking on the file Open with>Choose default program results in error message as attached.
This is the behaviour for any file extension.

Why can't I change the default program for any file extension by this method and how do I set a default for Notepad?
