[SOLVED] Error about procedure entry point

I have an HP laptop running Windows 7 64-bit

My daughter was playing Roblox on my Windows notebook. She said while she was playing, she got an error message. Then after that, I cannot open ANY program without getting an error like this:

The procedure entry point_onexit could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll

So figuring it was probably some sort of malware issue, I thought I would go on my other laptop, download Malwarebytes, burn it onto a CD and then run it from my infected laptop. But when I try to open the CD on my infected laptop, I get this message:

The procedure entry point wcschr could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll

Any help is greatly appreciated. I do not even know if running Malwarebytes is the most effective thing to do right now; it is just the only thing I could think of doing. I have not rebooted my computer- I'm afraid if I turn it off what might happen on boot up. Thank you in advance.

PC Working Erroneously

Recently my Windows 7 PC started malfunctioning. It does function but no surity on how long>Sometimes it works for full day others it fails within minuters. I have cleaned the memory cards (two numbers), pushed in the cables. When I check set up I find

IDE Primary slave not detected.

When it fails refuses to boot again. Switch it off reboot fails again. Leave it for some time then starts. At times it prompts "Press F1" "Press F2" etc. then reboots. Then works. At some stage a blue screen appears and I again go through the booting process. PC is ten years old. I have two questions.

1. What can I do to correct this situation?
2. My PC was bought in 2010 or may be earlier.I do not remember the date. Has the time come that I change the PC?

Only one year ago I had added an extra hard disk and replaced the DVD drive.

I do not think it is a cable connections problem. The PC is kept in a cool place, almost dust free area.

I am posting this only on the same PC. I use AVG Antivirus.
Hace run sfc/scannow and CHKDSK with f and R options. No problems found.

Network connection status

When I click the little monitor with the cable next to it in the tray at the bottom right of the Windows 7 desktop, it says:

--
Currently Connected to:

Network 3
Internet Access

Open Network and Sharing center
--

I'm used to seeing the name of the network somewhere. When I click on Network and Sharing center, Network 3 is repeated but I can find no further information about the connection...whether it's wired, wireless, etc. I'm using a wired connection and I don't have a wireless card so maybe I'm just used to seeing a network name that I created in my wireless router. I DO see the name of the network on my phone or iPad but of course, those are using the wireless connection.

Is this just the way a wired connection works and the feedback from Windows is just cryptic?

Thanks for any insight.

Win7 99's on black screen

I'm having a problem with my Dell desktop computer locking up and the monitor displaying rows of 99's across the screen. I have to "CTRL + Alt + Del" to reboot. Sometimes it will reboot normally, other times it will go back to the 99's screen. I have gone into CMOS after this happens and CMOS doesn't recognize my C drive hard drive, making me believe my C drive hard drive is failing. If I leave the computer off for several minutes, I can boot normally. Any thoughts, ideas????

[SOLVED] Black screen with cursor in Normal, works in Safe Mode

Hi folks!

Unfortunately, my 2 year old pushed some buttons on my Lenovo B590 laptop and something isn't right. Upon start up, I get a black screen with a moving cursor. Ctrl+alt+del doesn't bring up the task manager.

I double checked the boot order in BIOS and that looks OK.

Restarting in Safe mode works.

I also updated the video drivers, and (strangely) I was able to restart in normal and everything looked fine. However, when I restarted again after that, I was back to the black screen in Normal.

I've been Googling all morning, and done what I've found. If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'd be grateful for them. And if you have any questions for me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!

Browser/network issue

Hi,
I have a friend with an issue re some web pages refusing to open, but only some. He is running Windows 7 32 bit on a desktop with a Netgear N300 wifi USB adapter attached going to a Orange Airbox. The Airbox provides wifi via the cell phone network.
We can get Google and Microsoft web pages up and we can do a search in Google without problem using either IE or Firefox. We cannot however reach some websites such as Ookla (I wanted to check download and upload speeds.
It says the IP address which is the Airbox cannot be found. I have tried closing the AV (Kaspersky) and the Windows firewall but it makes no difference. I have run the network troubleshooter but it doesn't find any problem. I have cleared the DNS cache and checked the IP settings are good. I turned off IPv6 in case this was an issue. Nothing I did made any difference. It appeared to be only certain websites that will not open when I checked it.
I would appreciate any ideas as to what is causing the issue.

Failed to connect to a Window Service.

Hi

I can never understand why but it looks like something will always go wrong with computers and for no apparent reason.

So just restarted my laptop and it took forever to start then I get this "Failed to connect to a windows service" message. Tried to find a solution online but all I could find is "netsh winsock reset" command, which didnt do anything. Ok I get errors in the Event Viewers but what do I do with them?

I'm using Lenovo "Rescue and Recovery" tool to try and restore a backup but it's been like 3 hours and nothing has happend. I'm not sure if this is working actually.

This is WEIRD because only a few days ago I got the same error on my desktop -also out of no where- after turning it on but it resolved the issue on its own after I did a restart. Never had these errors before. Hmmm. Is this like a virus in the air?

What is causing this and how do I resolve the issue?

Thanks.

It's Win7, if that matters.

Computer running slowly

Hi,

My machine has started running slowly over the last few weeks and I'm at a loss as to why. I've not made any changes recently and I think I can rule out malware, so it's down to hardware or software. I've attached a Speccy output if that's any help.

Many thanks.

Connecting a wireless adapter to a Bluetooth device.

I couldn't figure out which sub forum to put this in so I just picked the one that is for my PC's OS. What I'm wondering is if it's possible to connect my PC's wireless adapter to a Bluetooth device, such as a speaker, and use it to play the computers audio through. I recently had my speakers stop working and had to throw them away. Since then I've been using ear buds to hear but I'd really like to have a speaker. So I have this Bluetooth speaker but my computer doesn't have a Bluetooth adapter. So I'm wondering if it's possible to use my wireless adapter instead. Probably a dumb question, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Windows Script Host error

Hello all, and thanks in advance for the help.

Here's the back story:

I use COMODO free version for my firewall and haven't had any problems. A few weeks ago I got a notification letting me know updates were available (program, not database). I allowed the system to update and walked off. I came back a while later (2 hrs+) and found it hung on the installation (at around 83% IIRC). I ended up having to force the machine off and do a cold boot.

When it came up I was getting all sorts of errors and couldn't get windows to work right. I started in safe mode and, using RevoUninstaller, was able to get COMODO off my machine and everything worked fine. I re-downloaded COMODO, installed it and didn't have any problems. I used Revo again to remove the browser and GeekBuddy that they force on your machine.

Starting a few days ago I got a new notification that program updates were available. I allowed the updates and it went through, notifying me a restart was needed. I restarted. Once it booted back up, it notified me that updates were available. I updated, restarted, and updates were available.

The cycle continued so I just started ignoring them. Today I decided to try and tackle the problem.

After restarting, the updates didn't seem to stick. So I used Revo once again to remove it. I re-downloaded COMODO and installed. I again removed the browser and GeekBuddy with Revo.

COMODO let me know there were updates, I updated, I restarted, and it seems to have taken this time. Hooray!

But now when I start windows I get a message box on startup:

Quote:

Windows Script Error

Loading script "C:\Users\Taylor\AppData\Local\Temp\ComodoWebStart.vbs" failed (access is denied. ).
I checked msconfig and looked under services and startup tabs and couldn't find much associated with it. Under services I have "COMODO Internet Security Helper" (which shows running, even after I have unchecked it and restarted the machine) and "COMODO Virtual Service Manager" (which shows stopped).

Under the startup tab I have "COMODO Internet Security"

I unchecked all 3 and restarted. Then I got an error message from COMODO saying that the firewall program couldn't be started. (The same script error came up). I tried doing it manually and got the same message. So I went back in and re-marked the one under startup, rebooted, and didn't have any problem (other than the scrip error message again).

I navigated there and found the file. The folder ...\Taylor\..., when viewed in the Explorer tree on the left, has a lock on it.

I did some research on the file and couldn't find any information on it anywhere. My malware spidey sense went off and I made a copy of the file, put it in a random location, and changed the extension to .txt I then went back and deleted the file under ...\Temp\

Now when I boot up I get a similar error:
Quote:

Windows Script Error

Can not find script file
"C:\Users\Taylor\AppData\Local\Temp\ComodoWebStart.vbs"
I have since gone back and once again unchecked COMODO internet service from the startup tab under msconfig (so all 3 are not marked). COMODO seems to be working fine, still getting the "can not find script file" error.

I'm looking to get help so the error doesn't pop up any more. It doesn't seem to be causing any problems other than a nuisance.

Thank you much,

Taylor

Hi everybody :

I'm using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. I'm having a problem changing the settings for the Updates. I go into Control Panel / System and Security / Windows Update / Change Settings. I notice that the Option box is greyed out. The Important Update can't be changed. The option where it says " Install Updates automatically (recommended) is greyed out. Also the Install Updates scheduling is greyed out. I can't find where to change these settings. Problem ? Sometimes when I do a SHUTDOWN, I get the message about NOT TURNING OFF COMPUTER.....etc...........and the number of Updates. If possible, I rather set it where I can 'manually' download and install the Updates.
Thanks,
garystan

File System Damage?

$

Dell Optiplex 745 SSF
Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. Installed from 'OEM' media.

I have used GIMP for a long time without any problems. Recently, I tried to add a plugin to Gimp. An error report said, 'This application has failed to start because xxxxxxxx.dll was not found.

I found the dll in the Gimp>bin folder and copied it to the plugin application. Then, when trying to install the plugin, I got another error message about another missing dll. I found that dll in Gimp>bin and copied it over.

After doing this about 10 times, I copied all dlls at once from Gimp>bin to the plugin app, thinking it would ask me if I wanted to skip any duplicates.

I caused some problems by doing this but don't know what. Everything is slower. Many things hang. Most times the download folder wont come up, at all. The whole computer is a mess.

I wanted to do a restore, but did not have a restore point before making these changes. I ran scannow. No errors were found. I ran chkdsk, but could not see the log. 'Event log is unavailable'. I don't know why. Event Log is set to automatic.

Now, I find the plugin is several years old and I really don't care about installing it. I just want to get the computer back to where it was before I created this mess.

Any suggestions as to how to track down and reverse the damage I've done? Could I have caused file system problems? I hate to do a complete re install, but will if necessary.

On the subject of reinstall. The computer was purchased form Dell as a refurbished unit. It has been working very well. As might be expected, there was no installation CD with the shipment. How would I go about getting or making a CD. Or is there a way to reinstall without a CD? Could I do this from Recovery D?

Laptop switches sound from speakers to headphone jack on its own

$

Like the headline says, I have a problem with sound on my Toshiba laptop (model is Satellite L755-S5110). Sound just randomly switches to headphones, even though they aren't connected. The sound just stops playing from the speakers, and when I plug in headphones, it plays normaly through headphones, and works fine while using them, but when I unplug headphones, the sound then plays from speakers for some time and then again just stops on its own and if I plug headphones again, it plays through them.
First, I thought it was some driver issue with win 10, so I did clean install of windows 7 (it was first installed when I bought my laptop), then again installed all the required drivers from the toshiba site (I checked in the device manager couple of times if all audio drivers were up to date, tried reinstalling/installing again), and the exact same problem remained. I also tried reinstalling audio driver provided from toshiba site, and used microsoft audio driver, and again the same problem.
Also, for example, when the sound stops playing from speakers, i just open Playback devices (where my default speakers device is listed), and the sound starts playing again through speakers (didnt change anything there, just opened it...)
I'd really appreciate if someone could help me with this issue, since I've already tried everything I could think of, and none worked yet. :banghead:
I'm also not really good with computers, so if you have any possible solutions, please let the instructions be as plain as possible...
