Greetings all,
I have been working on Toshiba laptop recently and can't seem to resolve its issues. Here is a breakdown of the system:
Toshiba Satellite L505D
CPU: AMD Turion II Dual core Mobile M500 x 2
GPU: AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200
RAM: 4GB PC2 666 MHz
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Symptoms
When surfing Facebook, it will scroll pages for a short while and then display the message:
Display driver stopped responding and has recovered
Shortly thereafter, it will display the blue screen of death requiring a reboot.
Actions Taken
I initially ran standard cleanup utilities:
Ccleaner (4.7GB of junk files / 1,800 registry invalid entries)
Avast (various scans 0 viruses)
Malwarebytes (0 instances)
Super Antispyware (206 adware instances)
Auslogics Defrag (Defragged & optimized the HDD)
Streamlined the startup items removing a few junk items from the startup list
Gave the GPU more time by editing the Graphics Driver directory of the registry with a TdrDelay of 8 creating a new entry QWORD in this directory.
Results
The computer boots into Windows 7 without any difficulty.
It seems to be able to surf regular websites (including YouTube).
I have even played a video from a thumb drive without any issues.
However, when it is logged into Facebook and you begin scrolling through the pages, it will generate the error and eventually blue screen.
I removed both RAM modules and replaced them with some I had that was functional (same error).
Thank you for your input and attention to this issue.
