Win7 Desktop click-through on some applications

$

Hi,

A while back now (maybe 2 years) I did a full reinstall of win7 on my home PC, and ever since then I've noticed some weird behaviour with clicking during focused applications (mainly games but not always).

Basically the problem is such: when i open a game (or any application which eats the whole screen with no taskbar etc), Clicking with my mouse will randomly seem to click the desktop instead, through the application. This usually pulls me from the game/app and puts me on desktop. If there's an icon/folder/etc where I clicked I'll have opened that too.

It's a really weird issue which seems to occur pretty randomly, some apps/games more than others, but a couple of things I've generally noticed:

-Running a game in windowed mode will almost always click through to desktop
-Running a game in fullscreen will clickthrough to desktop if there are other open windows on the desktop.
-Most fullscreen apps/games will not Alt-tab back in. They get to desktop fine but they will never Alt-tab back in. I generally need to use (Switch to) in task manager to refocus the window.

On top of all of this - occassionally when I start my PC my mouse isn't detected. I have to unplug and replug for it to focus.

I don't know if this thread belongs in Win7 support, but I'm not sure where else it lives since this really only happened after the reinstall. It's been suggested that it might be a registry problem but I've tried CCleaner registry fix to no avail.

Any help offered would be spectacular
Cheers

Win 7 Pro 64 System Image Recovery

Hey all,

So I have a workstation that the HDD just went bad on, so I bought a SSD to put in it. When I first got the workstation I made a System Image of it (4 DVDs). So I plug the new SSD in, put the first DVD in and boot from it. It runs through all four DVDs copies to the SSD then asks me to reboot. I reboot (first changing the boot order to the new SSD) and it loads windows and goes to the System Recovery page that only has three options Not this one. It says something like System Restore, Create a System Image and a third one I can't remember. Selecting System Restore it asks me which drive and/or partition I want to restore to and I select the SSD. It then shows a loading bar then shows an error that says "Please use /ref". If I click on the reboot it reboots but won't load and says MOOTMGR is missing. The only way I can get back to the Recovery screen is by running the DVDs again. Any ideas?

Thanks.

[SOLVED] Daemon Tools ver4.35.5 start up error

Running Win 7 pro x64

installed year ago ... runs fine.

I have had daemon tools lite (4.35.5) installed and used it for the whole time.

But now I get "This program requires at least windows 2000 with SPTD 1.6 or higher. Kernel debugger must deactivated" now.

I disabled the kernel debugger and rebooted..no joy.

I never activated the debugger, is it needed for other programs?

I dont currently use any anti virus/security besides MS security essentials.

Multiple errors, 3 blue screens, then general slowness

My computer has been generally slow for a while, but suddenly one day it was having a lot of issues. 3 blue screens over the course of two hours despite only using chrome type issues.

I set it up to check the C-drive, restarted to initiate that and went to bed.

The next day it seemed to be fine. The day after that I shut down and when I came back I noticed it was on the log-in screen as if it had restarted instead of shut down. So I logged in and shut it down again.

When I came back the next morning it was very slow to start-up, staying on the initializing screen after log in for 5-10 minutes. When it finally loaded all transparency was gone and it was extremely slow in general. When I tried to check the event viewer I got a "the snap-in is not responding" error and it wouldn't work. I checked for updates and saw there was one for my graphics card so maybe it was a graphics card issue, but the update errors. I tried checking the properties of my C-drive again but every time I right click it windows explorer errors and restarts.

I'm restarting again to see if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My RAM goes from 40% to 94% in 2 minutes

I need help with this one, my machine:

Win7 64bit SP1
eMachine EL1352-01e
AMD Athlon II X2 215 Processor, 4.0 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Was working fine then at the end of a session I noticed functions slowing down to a crawl. I looked at the win7 gadget it said 97% ram being used it's normally about 40%.

Rebooted - initially it was ok then after several minutes ram usage went very high again.

Anyone on the forum know how to fix this and restore proper function?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

PureVPN and Eternal Blue threat

Hope this is the correct forum!!
When I use PureVPN (subscribed) and a PPP program I receive AVG warnings of intercepts of EternelBlue threats. I do NOT get these when surfing without the VPN. Thank goodness for AVG. I also have run EternalBlue Checker.exe and it shows no problems.
Is PureVPN safe? Is there something else I should be checking?
PureVPN deny any wrongdoing but I really don´t believe them!!

Boot fails. System Restore can't help. Please help me.

Hello.

A few days ago my windows 7 wouldn't complete boot. I got a blue screen, which said something like "a vital execution thread suddenly stopped."

Then windows ran System Restore, but it ended by saying it couldn't help!

It said:

"Unknown bugcheck.

bugcheck f4

0x3
0xfffffa8005943b10
0xfffffa8005943df0
0xfffff800033c9d30"

What does this mean?

I have trying to read up online ever since, and my head feels like it's going to explode! I thought I could reinstall windows 7 over the old one, but from what I have read, it seems I can't, and I have to start with a fresh harddrive. So I was going to buy a new harddrive, and reinstall. But since this is going to be a humongous amount of work, I wanted to ask you guys, if there is some way I can avoid some of it.

Is there a way I can get my system to work as it is? Or a way of reinstalling over it?

I tried to use a System Restore Point, but it claimed there weren't any! I was sure I had made one some monthys ago.

But the harddrive seems okay. I booted a small Linux which is called Tiny, and I could see all my files, and I tried opening some of them.

I tried running chkdsk /f on my harddrive, but it didn't seem, to help any...

Please help if you can!

Need Update To Install Kodi

I want to install Kodi on a machine running Vista Home premium SP2. After downloading Kodi, I was informed I would need Platform Update KB 971644 in order to do the install.

After searching for hours, I read an article that stated the update was available only through Microsoft. This was after I had searched Microsoft many times, already.

I did not get the usual statement that Microsoft no longer supports Vista. I did get much information about the update, just nowhere to download it.

I read that the update was a part of the Windows 7 OS. I have a friend who is still using Win7. Would it be possible to copy the update from their computer and install it on mine? If yes, how would I go about doing this? For example, could the update be emailed to me and where would I put it on my computer?

Where are all the "startup" options?

$

Years ago I put media center in startup so it starts when Windows starts, I no longer want it in startup and am completely unable to find it in either the start menu start up or the startup in msconfig.

Where else could I have put it in startup? If it has to be one of the above placed I checked, is it possible it appears with an abnormal name I don't recognize?

Please help me get WMC to stop starting with my PC.

BTW, if I remove it from startup it will still record my TV shows right? That's the only reason I had it there in the first place.

Thank you

IE issue

Hi

I prefer IE over firefox but it has stopped working on my PC.
When I double click the IE icon it opens the IE interface only halfway and nothing responds.
So I tried to go into my control panel, programs section and delete IE from there but I can't find it in the list. I searched under "IE" or under"Microsoft" and I even looked at each icon from that list but I can't locate IE.
So I went into my program files and found the IE folder. As I went to delete it to reinstal it, it told me I need permission from "Trustedinstaller" prior to delete it.

Thanks to help me delete and reinstall IE

Regards

Pat

Must right klick to open any folder

Hello. I performed some major updates through windows update recently and it's the only causality to the time of this error occurred, that every left click with mouse on any folder across 5 hard drives now generates this message (badly translated to English)

'This file is not connected to any program to finish the task. Install a program or create an association in the controlpanel-object Standardprogram if there
already exist a program installed'

Absolute jibberish that make no sense

If you right click on any file/folder a new alternative have appeared at the top
of the menu "cmd" and if you click on that it will generate the above error message as well.

And since i have googled this issue i know it's not mouse related.
However some seem to suggest "Ink-files"

What to Do When Shortcuts Are Changed to LNK Files in Windows 7

All suggest

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.lnk\. Delete the User Choice folder, close the registry editor, and restart your machine."

I have checked and i didn't have any User Choice folder to delete, what do you make of that?

I have downloaded or insert some supposed registry lines that generally are supposed to fix errors like this, but they have not helped me so far, but won't turn down to test individualized offers

I had a windows restore point from 2 months ago as my latest lifeline, but computer fails to complete any restore points iv got off course. So this safe-points seem to now depend on this new windows updates i did that won't reverse for anything.

I have booted in safe mode without change, so it should not be Avast anti virus etc, nothing points towards a virus either

Do you got any formulas left for me? would be highly appreciated

Unexpected Shutdowns

Hi everyone. There may not be an easy answer to this but I thought I’d try. I have a Gateway GT5662 desktop. I bought it right near ten years ago in April, 2008. It’s been an amazing computer.

Starting over the summer or so, it began to randomly shut off when I left it idle. In the ‘event viewer’, it would always give me the message stating ‘the shutdown at xxx time was unexpected” with little other information. There was one occasion where it said it was due to my video card overheating. Every other time, the reason has not been stated.

I did a lot of reading on this issue and replaced the power supply. I also disabled the screen saver (haha) which was generally always running when the shutdown occurred. This approach worked for a while and I thought maybe the issue was behind me. I still have the SS disabled. Over the past week or two, the issue has started again, however.

My computer was left idle at about 2:30 this morning and shut down at 9:41 for an unknown reason. The computer started back up just fine and typically does. I did run chkdsk, and I apparently paid for that as I was getting a blue screen of death after trying to restart a few times, but this issue has now resolved. I do not believe the blue screen to be the error causing the shut down, or at least I don’t think so.

The blue screen error, per bluescreenview, was a critical object termination error. The crash address was ntkrnlpa.exe+e2328 and was caused by driver pwipf6.sys. I don’t know if this is relevant to the issue I am facing with the shut downs or not. I am going to be buying a new computer soon, but still like this one. Is the motherboard going out a remote possibility? The hard drive is fairly new, as is the power supply, obviously. The RAM is also only a couple years old.

Windlows Media Player

I wanted to get an updated version of WMP since my current version no longer works. Using a search I found the official download site for WMP: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...r-details.aspx. This is what I got:

"Windows Media Player is not compatible with your system.

You are running Windows 7 64-bit. Although Windows Media Player will not run on your system, you can download Windows Media Player for other operating systems." (My OS is Windows 7.)

Can anyone recommend another media player that can create CDs from WAV files?
