Unable to change protocols , no 'Browse' option

$

I need to change the protocols of;
FTP, HTTP, & HTTPS

When I go to Default Programs/Set Associations and right click on those the pop up box only has FF & IE, the option to "Browse" is not there as it is with Extensions.
I have changed the specific Extensions ok, but can't here.

This causing a weird problem of opening up some other version of FF that I have no idea where it is since all the versions/folders of FF are 'Portable' and none are actually installed. This is when clicking on links in e-mails.
Using Start Menu or Desktop shortcuts open the intended program version.

Is there a way I can find where 'eM Client' (the actual name of the program) mail link is pointing to? I looked at all FF folders, opened each .exe up and none are the same that the mail link opens.
Note the two different names; the ones with Mozilla are the corrected entries

Backup to factory-like state

Hi there, I’ve recently reinstalled my laptop - windows 7, all updates, and a few apps of my own. I’m wondering if it’s possible to “reset” windows to a state before a user was entered. Similar to how you get a PC from the store - it comes with a ton of software pre installed but upon first boot you need to setup windows as if it’s brand new. Once you create your user name, password, choose your language, wireless connection, etc., then windows starts and all the apps are already there/installed. How do I return my custom installation to that kind of a state, without loosing everything I have installed?

I probably could have found something via google, but not sure what to look for. Thank you in advance

Delete SP1 in Dos and Reinstall as upgrade to boot problems

Hi Guys, n Gals.

I recently suffered a catastrophe while trying to update my Tom Tom, the laptop blue screened and I was left with a laptop that would not boot.

It seems nothing is working to try and reboot. Like a ding bat I didn't backup or make an image. I did have another hard drive and installed windows 7 on that. Made a rescue disk but that doesn't do the trick.

None of the other options on the rescue disk work either.

I have run various checks and the drive is reporting as healthy.

I have heard that I could possibly delete SP1 with DOS in the command prompt and then do an upgrade install back to the windows partition.

Is this possible guys? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd rather not format due to the information I require on my laptop. I'm also a bit of a novice so any step by step instructions would be good.

Hp RestoreWiz Application crash

Hello,
My pc had so many problems to a degree that i only could go to hp recover manager, not even safe mode working. I used hp recover manager to backup my files on an external HDD, and i got an backup#1.1.exe and a backup#1.2.fbw then again with recover manager i restore to factory settings.
Then all good, working again, but when i open the backup#1.1.exe go through all the steps and then it appears arquive not found. I did some research and found most people had backup001.exe and backup001.fbw, so i tried changing name to that, both, and went a bit further, i reach the same point where i had before but it wouldnt appear arquive not found but looked like starting recover, but not even 2 sec in it crashes and stops working.
extra info
pc: compack dx2420 microtower windows vista 32 bits, but i had the windows10 when it crashed and had to backup all files.
(i did tried open with administrator, dont bother trying that)

I did tones of research and am here in last option... had tones of important work files there.

last option i havent tried and saw it out there was putting the exe on a cd and the fbw on another cd and try it that way.

your turn,
help me pls

computer caught in reboot loop

I've got a Dell OptiPlex 990 running Windows 7 Pro 32 SP1. The problem I started getting is a reboot loop. Initial boot up takes over 2 minutes and 41 seconds after my desktop loads the screen goes black and the computer reboots into Windows Error Recovery it all starts over again constantly. My cordless mouse does not work but the keyboard still works. My wired mouse will work. I can boot into safe mode with no problem.

copy audio for backup

I have a CD which I used to record live audio with a microphone. How can I make a backup copy of this CD? The only files I can find are cda type, which I understand are only shortcuts to the actual uncompressed WAV files, but which do not show up on the file listing. The audio files are irreplaceable recordings of my granddaughter so I need to have a backup.

Mounting tool

I have now downloaded 4 or 5 iso mounting tools that claim to work with 7 64bit. None will load the drivers. Message is 'loading drivers' and stays for as long as I care to leave it. Have tried turning off ESET anti virus but still won't work.
What can it be?

Upgrading Win 7 Pro to 10 Pro (during BSOD)

$

Hi guys

I installed a bunch of Windows 7 updates on my home PC last week and now it's stuck in boot loop. Having moved house recently I'm unable to locate any of the original media or restore/repair discs etc and can't get anything else to work. I'm going to persevere with trying to fix this (and will create a separate thread on the BSOD forum) but am also thinking about upgrading to 10 Pro anyway.

The OS is currently installed on an SSD while all data sits on a normal HDD.

Is there a way I can upgrade the SSD to 10 Pro whilst it's in 'boot loop'mode? The PC was built by Chillblast here in the UK so I guess it shipped with an OEM license(?). Am I right in thinking an upgrade path is only permissable with a retail copy?

Thanks

So I just a 500gb SSD today, installed it and everything is fine. I'm wondering if there is any downside to just copy and pasting games from my HDD to my SSD. Or if I should just install it onto my SSD.

Just discovered that my PCs hard drive is partitioned where C is 58 GB and D is 227 GB. Rather stupid since everything goes into C. How can I "repartition" the hard drive to a better allocation of the two drives?

My keyboard is locked in a strange key-toggling mode

$

Hi everyone.

My computer's keyboard and mouse is locked in some kind of weird toggling mode, and I can't return it back to normal. Let me list some of the symptoms:

*When I left-click the notepad icon on the Windows task bar, it just opens another new notepad window (instead of un-minimizing an already-opened-text-file notepad window)

*Hitting the f key cause youtube to toggle between full screen mode and normal screen mode

*Hitting the j key causes the youtube video to go back 10 seconds

*Hitting the p key toggles the screen options menu (Computer Only, Duplicate, Extend, Projector Only)

*Hitting the t key highlights the next left icon on the task bar every time I hit that key

*When I highlight text by left-clicking the mouse, from that point to the next place on the screen where I click with my cursor, all of the text in that area becomes highlighted

What is going on? What mode is this? How do I get out of it? Please help!

Bios Checksum Error + HDD Fail

Switched on my PC this morning and it did an auto recovery of a BIOS checksum error and then continued to boot as normal but my 1TB "storage drive" is now totally unformatted (it was 90% full of files before)

The drive is recognised when booting up as normal and in my computer it has a drive letter D: as usual and gives me an option to format it as if it was new.

its an old drive but i really need some of the files off it.. suggestions?

thanks

Computer starts to lag after ~30 minutes of use

After using my computer for around 30 minutes, it starts to lag terribly. The cursor moves slowly, the sound becomes "slow-mo" and static, and the overall response time of the computer lags behind. The problem has happened a few times before, once when i plugged my speaker's cord into the wrong outlet on the computer, but once I removed it, everything was working fine; and there was a few others times this week but after a reboot, everything returned to normal. However, today, no matter how many times I reset, the problem persists.
I have tried Startup repair, system restore to a previous date (which did not work and it gave me an error message "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed), and I scanned my hard drives to no avail. Since the problem popped up this past week, I decided to uninstall any applications that were updated/installed over this period, which included: Microsoft Office Outlook and Dropbox. Additionally, looking through Windows Update history, two updates were installed yesterday and today:

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.263.1728.0)
Installation date: ‎3/‎30/‎2018 12:09 PM
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important

Definition Update for Microsoft Security Essentials - KB2310138 (Definition 1.263.1856.0)

Installation status: Successful
Update type: Optional

Boot Problem

Hi,

Something happened and I'm not able to boot into the Windows. Probably Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store is missing, becomes corrupted, or isn't properly configured. when I start computer I'm getting blue screen with:

0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A9928,0xFFFFFFFFC0000034.0x0000000000000000.0x0000000000000000)
I use Startup Repair but nothing changed. Save mode is giving the same Blue screen. I looked on internet to find solution but nothing helped. I really don't want to reinstall my OS and you are my last chance to keep my data without loosing anything.
This hypothetical HD is as follows:

100 MB MBR partition
600 GB Windows 7 system

Let's imagine there is an empty 100 MB partition and the MBR is corrupt beyond repair or completely not there.

P.S.
OS: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Thanks in advance for any help.

iusb3xhc.sys problem

Well these random BSoDs happen while i'm playing games like Fortnite or CS:GO. It happened once on a desktop app. But this doesn't happen when i play The witcher 3, i can play it continually for hours at a time and nothing will happen. On the other hand, on other games like CSGO they happen 20-30 min after starting.

I haven't installed or touched any drivers for my usb ports for the last 6 months maybe and this has been happening for about a week now.

BSoD's tended to happen while my mouse fell off the table and tugged the cable from the port.

Any help would be appreciated.

I suddenly can not type the letter missing in this word e it. (meaning the door to leave) or as in e tra . (meaning more than I need of something or left over after completion.)

First thing I did was reboot, no help. Changed keyboard to no avail. Tried brand new key board that works fine on another computer. Rebooted with each new keyboard, no help.

Any ideas on why the computer just decided it does not like this letter. Tried it in e-mail, in Word, in notepad. Nothing.

Cannot install steam or Minecraft

I just inherited my uncle's PC today and slapped in a new psu and gpu. After getting the drivers running and scanning the PC with Malwarebytes (I had to remove 3,000 threats) I tried to download Minecraft and steam. Unfortunately I was met with the error shown in the attached picture, the same happened when trying to install Minecraft. I have attempted several fixes I found online with none helping. If you could please assist me, I would really appreciate it.
