hello,
I'm trying to boot an old laptop (HP pavilion dv6000 with all the original hardware, running windows vista 32 bit home edition) but it has been unable to load up Windows for some time now. I'm stuck at the "System Recovery Options" screen on the X: drive. This occurred two years ago, when my laptop crashed while trying to install Windows Service Pack 2 (or 1?). This is the following log I get:

my problem is similar to what is described here:
https://www.techsupportforum.com/for...ly-768938.html
I followed the suggestions listed where applicable, to no avail. In particular:
-Safe Mode will not even boot, despite mashing F8. It just goes directly to the System Recovery screen regardless of what buttons I press (except F10, which takes me to the BIOS menu)
-I have no System Restore points
-I do not have any backups, nor do I have the Vista CD
-I ran chkdsk succesfully; it took four hours, and no errors were detected
-I ran sfc /scannow to no avail. It tells me a system repair is pending, and of course when I do the required reboot and run the command again I get the same error message. The fix on the internet involves dism.exe, which is not recognized by my system.
-I did this:
https://www.techsupportforum.com/for...ml#post4651002 also to no avail
-I successfully ran all the /bootrec commands...nothing
-tried running
bcdboot c:\windows, and bcdboot is not recognized. However, unlike the OP in the aforementioned thread, I was able to located the folder containing the BCD file. If that means anything.
so I'm pretty much at a loss at this point. If it bears repeating, the inability boot occurred after the computer crashing during
installation of Windows Service Pack. Is there perhaps something in the registry I should be looking for?
A clean install would not suit my purposes, as I'm trying to use this old laptop for old legacy software that I have installed, and I no longer have the installation disc.
Thank you so much! Any help would greatly be appreciated.
