Extremely Slow Startup, no Internet Access

Hello folks, first time posting here and hoping to get some help with my problem. Just FYI, I am posting this from my laptop (not the computer with the problem) seeing as that computer is almost unusable in its current state.

I'll try to be as specific as possible until I can get logged on to the other computer and get information you folks may need.

About a day ago, I was searching for mods for Skyrim. My computer had been running perfectly fine and as fast as usual since I could remember before this point. However, in the midst of searching, Google Chrome stopped responding. I tried to start the task manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but nothing happened, so I had to force shut down via the power button.

When my computer starts, one of the fans goes full force before anything on the screen appears, and during this restart I noticed the fan was running at that speed for a significantly longer time than usual. Sure enough, when the "Starting Windows" screen appeared, the little Windows animation didn't appear right away, maybe a minute later it finally showed up. This part of start up took about 5-10 minutes, then the screen went black with just the white mouse cursor in the middle of the screen (was movable), then finally the password entry screen appeared. After putting in the password, another 5-10 minutes went by and was followed by a black screen with a white cursor once again.

Once the computer was started it just was not running nearly as fast as it should, and no matter how many times I have restarted and forced shut down (due to freezes), it will not run the same again. I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, then uninstalled it and installed Avast! and ran that too, with no infections found. Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware didn't find anything but a tracer cookie here or there.

I really don't want to reformat/re-install Windows, but I have in the past. However, something new happened today during one of the black screen phases during start up. In the lower right-hand corner was a message that said Windows 7 - This is not a genuine version (or copy, not sure what it said) of Windows. However, I have the disc and case that I originally bought, CD key and all, and never saw that message before this started happening.

Also, although my internet connection is connected, I cannot get to any sites before the connection times out. Started with the slow startup problem.
