CD Drive Missing...

I bought a new CD today. When I got home to upload it onto my computer, I realized my computer was not recognizing that there was a CD in the computer. Simple enough, I thought, so I went to investigate. I went to My Computer and saw that it wasn't even showing a CD drive in the computer. Unusual, I thought. Went to my devices in the control panel, saw the little exclamation point by my PC. Troubleshot the problem, apparently there was a problem with the driver, tried reinstalling the driver, but that failed. Only info Windows is giving me on that is "There was a problem". Additional details show that there is a problem with PnP devices. Sigh,

So after a bit of research, I realized, I have no idea on what the heck to do. So, I decided, eh, my computer is giving me enough trouble as it is lately (random freezes, which I have had a problem with since the beginning of this computer), so I'll just restore it to factory settings. Well thank God my computer froze when it did, because, after an lucky thought "I don't remember seeing my backup drive in my computer either", turns out, my back up drive is MIA. It was the one that came with the computer, IE, like internal back up, if everyone knows what I mean. The only thing I can think of, is that this must be a virus, a very mean, evil little virus. But my virus program isn't detecting anything.

Does anyone have any idea how to restore my back up drive and my CD drive?! Pllleeeaassee help!
