Can't connect DVI-D(single) to HDMI on TV

Hello

I am trying to connect my Laptop Dell XPS M1730 windows 7 (2x 8800M GTX cards) - to my HD ready TV from LG.

If I use a HDMI calbe directly from my desktop pc, it works perfectly (I don't even need to turn down my resolution)

But my laptop does not have an HDMI port. So I bought a DVI-D(single) to HDMI cable. And connected them up.
- The TV detected something. And then said "no signal" on the screen.
- My laptop screen went black when I connected.

Do anyone know how to fix this? Am I using the wrong cable?
DVI-Digital Single link to HDMI is the cable I am using.
The laptop has DVI Female connector.
