'Local Only' internet problems.

Hello there, I have come here to ask a question about my laptop, which is a hp pavillion dv6 1215sa. I have a major problem with my internet connection. A few months back I moved house into where I live now, and changed from sky internet to a virgin media package. Since then I have frequent problems where my system will change from local and internet to local only for no specific or given reason. This usually happens when I am doing something online such as playing a game or on webcam to a friend. It has become really frustrating to the point where it is untolerable. I know it is not the internet itself, because there are two other users in this household who experience no problems with it whatsoever. It is only my machine that does this frequently. No reset of the internet is required, I simply turn the button which finds the connection off, and then back on again, and I am connected. However this is frustrating because it means whatever I was doing on the internet then has to be restarted.

Any ideas why this happens? The only answers I find online usually are the internet itself being the problem so I could do with some expert advice,
