Hi everyone, first time poster.
My Toshiba satellite a300 laptop randomly turns off and restarts again. Sometimes it happens during the bios boot time, and sometimes it may happen while I am surfing the web, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the the random restarts. It's only been happening in the last 5 - 7 days or so. There is no BSOD.
I have looked at the computer events log, and can't seem to pinpoint anything that precedes the random reboot. Only thing I have seen is Event ID 10
"Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected."
But even this event does not correspond exactly, as there are times when I get this event without a reboot occurring.
I tried restoring my system to an earlier known good period (with acronis), tried sucking some of the dust out of the fans, but I've still been getting these problems. Also, my HDD health seems good (from an HDD health program), and no errors on error checking. The CPU temperatures are only getting around 40 - 48 degrees.
My system is : Toshiba satellite a300, windows vista 32 bit home premium (sp2)
320 gb HD, 2gb ram, P7450 processor, hd3470 graphics
If anyone knows how to fix this random reboot, or has any idea about the cause, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you for your help.

Edit: I've had this laptop since late 2008
Also, there are times when the whole system freezes up, with a beep sound, the mouse cursor can't move, nothing responds. This lasts about 10 - 20 s, and everything is responsive again. Occurs maybe a few times a week. But don't know if it's related to this reboot problem.
