Moving to Windows 7

Hi,

I'm considering buying a new PC, 64 bit with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Should all my existing software work, in particular Office XP?

I note Windows 7 Professional includes "Windows XP Mode". What is that?
Am I likely to need it?
