Ok, so PC was working fine today until i messed up. PC has been running very loud lately. The heat sink and fan were caked with dust. So i decided to remove it and clean. Well the CPU came out with it. Pins were bent, but i was able to gently straighten them out and reinstall the CPU. I cleaned it and added new thermal paste and reinstalled the heat sink and fan. Now PC will not start. It will get to the black screen where it gives the option to run startup recovery or start windows normally. Either option results in the PC rebooting and going back to that same screen. I have not had any ram problems or hdd problems ever on this PC. I tried running in safe mode, but it still reatarts. I made a repair CD from a friends PC, it loaded the files, but then restarted again.... So that didnt work either. I ran the diagnosis that is available at startup. It immediately said my CPU is fine. It gave me an error for ram, it okayed my hdd, but it gave me an error for my bios (biohd-4). I bought this PC from a friend last August. It originally had vista but she had it upgraded to 7. I do not have any of the disks for it. I do have an XP disk. So i figured i would try to use that disk to wipe hdd and just install xp. Well it started off ok.... It began loading all of the setup files, but once it finished, it said "loading windows" then it restarted back to where i was before. So it just flat out will not load windows. I dont know what else to do since i cannot afford to take it to a professional, and i need it to finish school work. I am usually pretty good with following directions, but i could not find any other cases online quite like mine.. I would prefer to keep my windows 7 and all the stuff on my hdd, but at this point i will do whatever, including clearing the hdd and installing xp. is there a way to format the hdd when it will not let me get anywhere with the XP install CD, and i cannot boot to windows? Also i did try to set bios settings to default, but nothing changed. If it means anything the PC is an HP and has an amd phenom II CPU. I really really really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
