Massive file taking forever to scan.

Norton takes forever scanning this

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
...and i mean like forever.

Unchecking 'Hide protected operating system files' i have found a huge amount of used space there. Properties shows there is
72.0 GB 77,347,987,456 bytes) 1,568,848 Files, 80 Folders

Can i clear this up safely and reclaim any of that space? The biggest file i can see in there tho is 28k.
