[SOLVED] Can't figure out whats wrong with my internet!

First off I posted in this section cause I couldn't find a better section that met my problem's characteristics. And also I'm not computer-illiterate, I've got over 5 years of computer science classes under my belt.

Ok so my problem is that my desktop computer keeps losing internet... not in a all connection is lost and I have to restart the modem, more of a the internet randomly decides to slow to a crawl for a few seconds and the only way to fix it temporarily is to disable the network device in the Network Connections folder. But it keeps getting more and more frequent and its really driving me up a wall!

My setup is a network modem that I bought myself (After trying to replace the one cox gave me) a then connected to a linksys router, then a wire stray to the desktop.

I tried doing some troubleshooting to no avail. I tried cutting out the modem and doing a direct line from the modem to the desktop but I still got the same problem, and I know its not the router or the modem because my wireless items (especially my laptop) have no signs of this problem at all!

So all the only conclusions I could come to is that its either a hardware problem (IE somethings wrong with the Ethernet socket on my motherboard) or a software issue! But how can I truly find out what it is and finally fix this annoyance... ?

PLEASE HELP!
