Overheating and whirring - Fans or something else?

So I've got an HP Pavilion dv6 on Windows 7 which I've had for about 2 and a half years. For a while now it's been consistently overheating and making that loud whirring noise the whole time its turned on. I've checked out what processes are going on, I had quite a few programs installed so got rid of some of them, ran malware-bytes anti-malware on it, a whole avg scan and those picked up nothing. As of right now I have 91 processes running, and only chrome open (which uses several.) Is that more than usual? I have disabled some start-up programs. One thing I noticed is that with svchost.exe, there are several running and they can take up to 300,000K for just one. It comes and goes but does anyone know what the reason for this might be? I don't know a lot about what that process does. Most of those 91 are system processes. I am wondering if maybe it's as simple as the fans needing attention, I've never disassembled a laptop before so I'd hand that over to someone who knows what they're doing.

If there's any crucial information I've missed let me know! Hope you can help
