Check Disk Problem

I completed a system restore a few days ago, but now when I boot up my computer, it redirects to a check disk screen that gets stuck at "CHKDSK is verifying usn Journal...". If I cancel the disk check, my computer runs very slow. Is there any way for me to fix this since my laptop won't finish the check?
