Wifi: No connections available...

A friend spilled coffee and physically abused his laptop and gave it to me thinking it was trash. It's a Compaq Presario CQ57. First, I was having a HDD failure, so I replaced the HDD, but I have no discs to do the recovery. Originally it came with win7 home premium, but I found a copy of win7 ultimate so Installed that. I downloaded the network drivers so I could connect and let windows update do the rest. Had some problems installing hd graphics, but after deleting and downloading it again it works fine now. Now, I only have two concerns left to fix...

On my device manager it shows "SM BUS CONTROLLER" with an exclamation alert. I'm not sure if this is affecting my wifi or not. I google'd the most common fixes and neither worked. (tried uninstalling and letting win update find the driver, but it cannot find it. I found it manually and installed the driver but it still has the alert.)

My main problem is my wifi. my wlan card shows up on device manager like its working properly, yet it cannot find any connections. I've tried uninstalling and installing the driver manually, but still nothing. and YES my f12 wifi key is lit. SO, I thought it was a hardware problem so I replaced it.
I've seen this problem in other forums, and I haven't found a solution i haven't tried.

My wlan card is: 640926-001 RTK-RTL8188CE
