I'm not sure if this issue should be under windows support or hardware support, so I apologize in advance if I'm posing in the wrong forum.
Some background information: I'm running a custom desktop with:
Motherboard- Biostar TH55XE
OS- Windows 7 sp1
GPU- Radeon 5670
CPU- intel i3 540
I recently installed a ram upgrade, from G-skillz 2x2gb to Patriot 2x4gb. I checked for compatibility and found that the two pairs of sticks have the exact same timings, frequencies, power etc etc. The only difference is the brand and the memory capacity.
After installing my new ram (replacing my old sticks), my desktop wouldn't boot up (the machine would start humming then shut down). After a few more tries, I booted it up and windows prompted me to scan for errors due to unsuccessful bootups. After scanning, windows prompted me if I wanted to revert to a restore point, and I chose not to. (I'm not sure how long ago I created a previous restore point and I have important data on my pc)
So after this entire ordeal, the computer booted up fine and everything looked like it was working. dxdiag confirmed that the computer recognized the ram as well. However, after the first day, I started getting crashes from chrome, steam, and some BSOD's. (BSOD's happened less frequently, but program crashes occurred often). Thinking it might be because of my RAM change, I reverted back to my old RAM, and rebooted my PC one last time. This time, the crashes were still there. It seems to be more common when I have more things running, so now I think there might be something wrong with the window's files. Is there someway I can verify my windows folder, or does anyone know what other diagnostics I can run to find out what's wrong?
