I have OTA antenna for TV at home (no cable) and have been for years streaming the shows that I want at the networks' websites instead of recording them. But they have gone and loaded up these streaming versions with at least as many commecrials as the broadcasts so I am back to recording.
I recently set up my HTPC with a TV tuner card and Mediacenter remote control and plan to use MediaCenter to DVR the programs to the HTPC and then watch the shows when I want being able to fast forward through commercials.
My question: Does MediaCenter need to be up and running for the programmed recordings to take place? Or will it record even if the program is closed? PC is running 24/7 for video security cams but what happens if the power cycles or whatever (PC is on a UPS and I have it set to restart once power is restored if the UPS goes empty) do I need to go in and restart MediaCenter to make sure I don't miss a recording event... or not?
