old machine, new OS

my dad asked me to put win7 home 32x on his old compaq presario sr1500nx. (mobo, cpu and ram above).

it took a LOOOONG time to get the OS on the machine, but its on now and its slower than molasses in January.

im going to guess that the cpu just dont have the mustard to handle the OS and Zonealarm Internet Suite (newest) and malwarebytes 1.75.

put in the max 2G of ram, but it didnt do much.

am i correct in assuming its the cpu or am i missing something?
