Hi guys, first off would like to say that I'm a long time reader, first time poster. This is a great forum and hope you all can help me out, and maybe sometime in the future I can help you out.
I like to pride myself in being computer savvy, but this issue has me completely dumbfounded.
A fresh reinstall is an option, however it is a last possible option. I have used this computer soley for the purpose to backup my fiances iPad. We have recently sent in her iPad for repairs and we are getting a new one back, so I need the iTunes file to restore the iPad to all the purchases she made.
This is a Windows 7 Ultimate
Whenever trying to boot up Windows I get a blinking white cursor indefinitely. I ran a hard drive test and everything passed, so I think I can rule that out.
I spent around 8 hours researching possible fixes and trying them all. Here is what I tried so far.
1) Changed bios to boot up to CD so I could run Windows Startup repair. I don't have the original recovery CD so I made a Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate CD. Whenever I select the operating system it says "This version of System recover options in not compatiable... etc". I am able to by pass that by clicking into the white area and go into startup repair.
Startup repair comes back with "Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically" with errors "Startup Reapir Offline" and "NoOsInstall".
If I click "Load Drivers" in the OS selection screen I am able to see some of my files which also makes me think that the Hard drive is still good.
2) Tried bootrec.exe command prompt files within the recovery CD. Tried every possible command without it helping.
3) If I try to press F8 without the recovery CD in I get an error "INSERT BOOT CD" or something along those lines, I can recreate the exact error message if possible. If I press F8 with the Boot CD in and try to boot into Safe Mode or last good configuration it boots into the recovery CD panel.
4) With HP you press F11 to boot into the recovery portion of the hardrive. I also get a blinking white underscore there as well.
Any and all help is appreciated and will try it ASAP and will be as detailed as possible with all questions.
First time asking a question on a support thread so I am sorry if I left out any important details.
