Windows 7 SP1 Failed and it's all downhill from here.

Hi, I have a Windows 7 system with multiple problems.

Dell Inspiron 1440 laptop

Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

I am plugged into the network with a cable (not wireless).

The problems began when it tried (and failed) to install SP1. It got stuck in a loop saying that it could not complete the install and would revert back. I had no choice but to do a hard shutdown because of this loop.

Since then things have been very strange. IE will only go to Google sites. Almost everything else fails. All Microsoft sites are not accessible.

Then I noticed that the network was taking up 99% of the CPU. So I researched it and notice the 6to4 adapters and I used DEVCON.exe and a batch file to automatically delete all 842 of them. In correcting this problem I also stopped the IP Helper process.

After reading about the problem of SP1 not installing, I uninstalled all the .NET 4 files and reinstalled them. That didn’t seem to do anything.

I then did a sfc /scannow and it didn’t find any file errors.

The system has limited network

Event Viewer Fails with - MMC could not create the snap-in

Network diagnostic fails with - An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue.

On Boot it has one error - GfxUI has stopped working – windows is checking for a solution to the problem. That does seem to go away on its own with each reboot.

Without the network, if I want to try anything, I have to download onto my desktop system and move the files over from a thumb drive. So be patient with me to try new steps.

Is there something I can run to create a report that will narrow this down? As much as I think it is the network, I’m also quite sure it’s more than that. How can I check my system integrity?

At this point I believe it has multiple problems. There is nothing running on this system, no extra programs or software. I would just like to get the system up and running again.

I do not have a Windows 7 system image disk.
I do have a Windows 7 repair disk.

Please help.
