I have a failing 1TB external USB-powered hard drive; commonly corrupts files when reading them. I purchased a new 2TB external USB-powered hard drive and am copying all the files from the old to the new.
I have numerous times ran into an error that produces no prompt whereas I attempt to copy a ~200GB directory to the new drive, and the copy cancels itself. This doesn't always happen, but intermittently does.
When attempting to copy a corrupted file, I do receive an error prompt stating that the file could not be read. However, when this automatic cancellation occurs, I get nothing. Windows will go through the process of calculating the files, but when the actual copy starts, it just closes itself. However, I can open a large directory in question and copy the files out in smaller chunks without any issue.
What could this be?
