Hi all,
I have had an error on a HDD, the machine was in a constant reboot loop and no matter of fixing would enable windows to boot. a chkdsk in another PC just runs for 48+ hours. I am getting error after error after error of bad FAT and file location blocks (suspoect the disk is on it way out) however the user has a steam directory of approx 700+gb, and is obivously keen not to have to download it all again. I have tried to copy and paste but it appears to take the cut command, but when I try to paste it to another disk, nothing happens (other than the ghosted cut folder icon returning normal). no file copy happens or anything.
to be honest I am not that bothered in recovering it more interested to know what the fault could be? is it a permissions issue? i have set the folder to "everyone" but i am getting the age old "you do not have permission" error. I have tried to recover some small picture files from the disk as well, and although these seemed to copy they all copied over at 4096b and arent shwoing which leadds me to suggest this disks FAT has got its boobies in a tangle?
