This isn't directed at Windows 7 specifically, and this is only in a particular case, not always.
When I turn on my system and run it for a while (loading and closing all of my usual programs) I am usually using 1.2 to 1.3 GB of RAM. It jumps when certain processes are in use, of course (like virus scanning) but will go down as soon as it is done for the program closes, and of course it can grow over time.
Currently it is using 3.12 GB out of 4 (well, 8, but I'm running 64bit... I probably should have gotten 32bit) Performance showed 0% CPU Usage, there are no unusual Processes running and the ones that are running are at normal levels although I do see "26933 handles" and "953 threads". Nothing in Services jumps out at me, but I'm not entirely sure what I would be looking for anyway. Memory isn't constantly rising like a steady leak.
It has been only 10 days since my last reboot, and levels are easily higher than normal for this few number of days. Before I go this route, I'm curious what else I should look at or software to run/use that could free up this RAM quickly.
Any ideas?
