I'm in somewhat of a quandry. My daughter approached with her computer the other day ( Dell inspiron n3040 tag HVT1LP1- OS WIN 7 Home Premium [currently erased] purchased 08/19/2011 expired warranty) and this is the situation she lay before me.
"My computer got a virus so I gave it to a friend who said he was 'computer savvy' to fix for me. He deleted my entire hard drive without me first backing it up or making a system disk. He then used one of his own disk to give me an operating system and after messing with it some more he found that he had 2 operating systems on drive c and x: drive. He again deleted the whole thing and said he saw a partition that said dell oem on a partition but couldn't find how to access the partition as he thought that might be a repair. Help me please!! I know we are both at fault for this mess, but is there any hope? Dell said they wanted money and I'm dead broke right now."
I told her I would see what advice the forum would offer and get back to her. I'd loan her the money to fix it but I too am old, disabled, broke, unemployed, retired, etc.....
