Two video cards to achieve three monitors

I have read various threads that address this issue, but am still at a loss for how to do this myself, or if it is even possible. My nvidia Quadro 2000 has only two active outputs, so I am limited to two monitors. I would like to add a third for work (non-gaming) purposes. Some people have said this is possible while others insist it isn't. I have a Dell Precision T3600 workstation, running Win7, 64 bit, with six core Xeon processor.

So I adventurously decided to just buy another card, plug it in and see what happens. I got a Radeon HD 5450, just because it was the cheapest one Office Depot had. I installed it, fired up the comp and the computer ran that card and ignored my nvidia (meaning I only had one monitor). Does this indicate that my motherboard doesnt support two cards? Is there some setting that allows one to act as a master and the other a slave or something?
