Computer in question: Acer Aspire AST180-UA381B
Operating System: Windows Vista Basic
This is my grandmother`s PC which is not currently connected to internet (but can be), which is only used to play small time games such as Bejeweled and basic puzzle games. Nothing too big.
One day it suddenly powered off while in the middle of a game she was playing. Ever since then it powers on after being plugged in without having to press the power button. I plug it in and the fans start running, just like that. Then again sometimes I have to press the power button to turn it on. In either case however, nothing at all displays on the monitor. Not even the Bios menu. All fans start running, a few lights light up, but nothing else.
I have done everything from testing the monitor, the power supply, and removing all unneeded hardware. Nothing changes after all of this. I know that by removing the RAM the PC should give a BEEP code, but after removing the RAM it still acts in the same manor. I have even tried reseating the RAM, but to no avail. After reading around I`ve somewhat determined that my problem is with either the CPU and/or the motherboard. However, I would like a second opinion before replacing either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any other details are needed, please don`t hesitate to ask. Thank you in advance.
