I'm having some major issues right now with my PC. One issue led to another, which led to another.
My main issue right now is that I can't boot into windows. The boot animation gets stuck a second or two after the "starting windows" black screen with the four colours which animate to make the windows logo.
My problems started when I installed GTA IV. For a couple of days, everything was fine. Then after maybe half an hour of gameplay, I would hear the usb device disconnect noise windows 7 makes, and my controller (I've been using an xbox 360 controller with an adapter for pc) would briefly loose connection, and then within a couple of seconds regain connection. This would then be followed a little later, (I'm not sure of the time frame, I think maybe less than another half hour) by all usb devices stopping working. My keyboard/mouse/controller would completely stop responding. I wouldn't be able to ctrl+alt+del out to windows either. My only option would be to hard reset my pc via its power button.
After this happened a couple of times, I started seeing the problem of not being able to start up my PC. This would sometimes work and sometimes not work.
Another side issue was that my ethernet connection stopped showing up in device manager, and I read somewhere to check my BIOS for related settings. After which I realised my keyboard stopped working during boot. When I always used to.
I had to resort to pulling the battery on my motherboard to reset the cmos and get the keyboard working again. I do have a cmos reset button on the back my my motherboard, however pressing this still left my keyboard unusable. Only after pulling the battery was it usable.
After doing so, I initially booted into safe mode, which worked. From there I tried a system restore, which failed with an unknow reason. However when it tried the restore it did boot back into windows like normal. I then shut down the PC, and later on tried to start it again, and now I'm stuck again on the starting windows boot animation, and my keyboard has once again stopped responding.
I don't know where to go from here. Pulling the motherboard battery each time I want to start my PC is hardly a viable option.
What can I do to try and rectify this mess?
Thanks, If you've bothered to read all of that...
