I have an ASUS U46E and have been plagued by this particular problem for a long time, I think it has even continued after re-installing the OS and drivers using restore disks. It more or less runs fine seemingly, but takes 15-30 seconds to shut down or login after booting up, sometimes even more than that, and before the login screen the screen momentarily goes black with only the cursor shown, and after logging in, the "busy' circle around the cursor appears and the desktop icons go blank sometimes the entire screen goes black requiring task manager to be opened. I have also tried disabling all startup programs to no avail, as well as running full system scans, defrags, disk checks and cleanings. Safe mode works fine but may also suffer from a slow login or boot. Any help would be most appreciated thanks.
