System Recovery of Elitebook 6930p on Vista

Hello everyone,

I ran into an annoying problem. After a software update my notebook now displays the following message:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer
etc.
"

I am no longer able to boot Vista.

I do not have a Windows installation disc but since I am a student I was able to download a new OS for free through Microsoft DreamSpark. I opted for Windows 7, as my notebook is 4 years old. I figured I could just restore factory settings on my notebook and then install the new OS. Since I did a backup right before all this happened I don't care about the data on the harddrive.

I found a description online that said to just hit the f11 key when restarting the notebook but that does not work. I can get into the startup menu which also lets me enter the BIOS Setup. But I don't know and was unable to find out how to get into the recovery mode. All tests from System diagnostics came up with no results.

I really just want to wipe the notebook clean and start over with the new OS. I would be immensely grateful for any advice on how I might do that given the problem. So I thank you in advance for your support.
