Can't access my win7 ultimate

$

I'm using a multi-boot pc, winxp, win7 and win10.

I can access XP and Win10, but Win7 is working only in Safe Mode. Normal Mode shows an incomplete screen, with no icons on it but my trash can, which isn't operative. (See attached pic)

I checked my event log while on safe mode, but looks like the only relevant information refers to failure to start services which are not available on safe mode.

I tried the following possible remedies:
1. Deactivated all non-microsoft services thru msconfig.
2. Ran a startup repair.
3. Tried a "Restore", but no prior date was available for restoration.
None of those solved my problem.

4. Ran chkdsk from a boot disk.

5. Ran SFC /SCANNOW

6. I updated relevant drivers showing up in the Device Manager

7. Created a new user and tried to access my system using this user

8. Tried to ran Windows Update, but the service isn't available in Safe Mode.

9. Ran MGADIAG, which reported activation problems. Looks like I've not installed KB971033, but I can't install an update while I'm on Safe Mode.

What should I do in order to break this startup blocking?

File Access Denied

I will try to keep this simple. I have an application in a folder, one level below the main parent folder. The name of the folder is C:\mfaktc. The name of the executable in the folder is mfaktc.exe. There is also a support library in the same folder. The executable is a console application. When I open a command prompt window and change to the correct folder, then type the name of the application and press Enter, I get a short message,"Access denied." The application deletes itself. I've never had an application delete itself in my many years of experience.

A little background. This is running with Windows 7 Professional (x86) on an AMD Athlon 64 X2. I have no antivirus programs running and I disabled Windows Defender while trying to figure this out. I have been told this has something to do with "permissions." I wouldn't think this would delete anything.

Thoughts anyone?

Lots of system hangs since Win update

Hi all,

W7 did a long (unusually-long per the norm) update a few days ago and performance has been awful since. I haven't installed anything else (until yesterday, a new Opera version), and I've virus-scanned and found nothing.

The issue: the whole system will just sit there for several seconds up to a minute without doing anything - not completely frozen, but browsers esp. will just lock up. Checking the task mgr, it looks like nothing is happening - only the task mgr and sometimes WmiPrvSE will show any activity whatsoever - and it never goes above 5% CPU while it's hanging.

Sometimes at boot up it will take 2-3 minutes before I can do anything.

Ideas? Thanks!

[SOLVED] Where can I Download a Legit Copy of Windows Vista Home Premium

Hi, since there is no way for me to get beyond the password issue to Factory Restore my friends Dell Inspiron 530 computer with Windows Vista Home Premium on it.

Then my next best option is to reinstall Windows, the only problem is that although I have the product key on the computer I do not have a physical copy of Windows Vista Home Premium. Is there some website that I can download a legitimate copy of this OS. Microsoft doesn't provide it any more, and I don't want to download something that may not be legit, legal, or possibly could be malware etc.

If anyone has a link to a good safe website, could they please send it my way.

Thanks for your time in advance, and thanks for your previous responses to my querry of how to bypass a password. So sorry that I didn't pay attention to the posting rules.

Windows 7 Professional Product Key Invalid for Activation

First of all, apologies if this problem has been posted before and solved - I did look but I couldn't find it.
Second of all, I know next to nothing about computers and wouldn't have them if I didn't need them for college work. Because of that, I don't know what information you might need to know - so I'm just going to put everything I can think of!

I have an HP Pavilion g6 laptop that I have had for several years. Around Christmas time the hard drive died and I had to get it replaced. That all went fine except for the fact that I'm from England (where I bought the computer) and at that point I was on in Canada. Obviously I didn't think to bring my windows disks with me. And I wasn't going back to England any time soon. The tech guy who replaced my hard drive told me it was no problem and put Linux on the laptop so I could use it until I could get my windows disks. Or I could just keep using Linux.

As I was traveling around, I didn't have an address to get anyone to send my disks to me until a month ago, when I settled in Mexico for a while. My father bought me new Windows 7 disks from the US as they would get to me quicker.
I managed to figure out how to partition my drive and everything so that I was able to install windows without removing Linux (as I couldn't find out how to do it any other way. No one seemed to understand why I would want to remove Linux!). Everything installed correctly except for the fact I wasn't able to get online to activate it. I typed in the windows key and selected the option to activate next time I was online. No big deal, I thought, I had a month to find an internet cafe.

Well, now I am finally online (past the activation deadline) and trying to activate windows and it keeps saying that 'The Windows 7 Professional product key you typed is invalid for activation'.

I thought perhaps I had just typed it in wrong and went to re-type it but the ink has worn off the stupid little sticker they sent you so now I can't read it! Seems like a major design flaw to do that after only a month.

I don't have a cellphone (I don't like them either - hard to believe I'm 22 sometimes) so I can't call Microsoft, so I'm really hoping this is something I'll be able to fix online.

Is there anything I can do or do I have to scrape together the money for another windows key?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

boot up brake off with Toshiba laptop

Hello,
I've got a Toshiba Laptop Satellite P755-S5215 with Windows 7.
Recently noticed that it was overheating (cooling fan came on very regularly). Tried to download an update from Microsoft for Windows moviemaker and just after it started, the laptop went off, totally dark. Restart and it would boot up for about 7 to 14 seconds, then very, very briefly flash a blue screen and go dark again. It would try to automatically reboot over and over again and go up until this 7-14 second threshold and reboot again until the power button was pushed, then it would stay off.
I thought this meant bad hard drive, so got a new one, cloned it off another working and stable hard drive and installed the new hard drive and updated the RAM cards too.
Result: exactly the same as with the old hard drive. I checked the bios settings, it shows that the new hard drive is being read; it identifies the new hard drive maker and model number. But nothing I have tried so far gets the boot process any further.

Does someone have a recommendation for what needs checked? I think there is other hardware issues, but wanted someone with better knowledge. If you think the hardware needs looked at, what equipment do I need to get to check this? I know that heat and laptops don't mix, is it possible that the heat has cooked something?
I appreciate any advise.

Windows 7 Home premium gives an error and sound warning always on startup on a particular Toshiba laptop. I am attaching a screenshot in case anyone can enlighten me to eliminate it. Standard cleansing procedures have all failed. :ermm:

When reverting from windows10 to w7 there are effects

$

I have just discovered that when reverting from windows10 to windows7 effects happen in my case my network and ethernet drivers were effected also when clicking on wifi I had no connections I tried a wired connection and could still not get online, I phoned my server up and he told me that when reverting down bad things can happen . I was absolutely amazed the only way I can think how this is happening is by the senior operating system leaving something on the hard drive to sabotage a person reverting to a lower operating system. Is this allowed? Maybe someone knows different I would like to hear.

Messed up permissions on Windows 7 -- no programs will start

I tried to fix permissions for a partition, so ended up using an icacls command following suggestions read online. Since it seemed to be taking quite a while, I changed my mind and terminated to process (decided I'll just format the partition).

I don't know if it was this or something else, but another partition -- my Windows partition, to be exact -- now also has messed up permissions. No no programs will start when I boot up my computer.

I read that this could be fixed by running icacls * /t /q /c /reset as an administrator, but that command is giving me a bunch of errors (cannot find path, access denied etc.)
Can this be fixed by using takeown /R /F *? If not, how should I proceed in order to not break up anything more?

Home page.Where is it?

I have set my email page time out of number in Internet Options in IE as Home and for the page to start up.

Never does. I get a start page from BT and even if I click on the "house" button the page just updates to the same thing. I can get Home eventually if I click on "Email" on the page but it takes an infuriating amount of time.

Sometimes BT makes me log in again. Ok, happy to do that once in a while but often when I try it tells me I am locked out because I have had too many tries but I only tried once!

Windows Vista Stuck on Searching for Updates for ages

Hi I just Factory Restored a Dell Inspiron 530 today and I clicked on check for updates. First it tried looking for updates and then gave me an error message 8024402f.
I researched this error and someone suggested downloading the newest driver for your network adapter, installing it and then this should work. Well I did that and now when I click on check for updates, it just goes and goes and goes, never stops and doesn't find any updates.

Is there something that I need to have installed first or something that needs to be checked or unchecked in my settings or what.

I had this very same issue with a Windows 7 computer and someone from this forum was able to help me with it, by giving me links to 2 patches that had to be installed first, before the computer ever went onto the internet.

I'm wondering if there is something like that for Windows Vista.

Thanks in advance

I can not map a network drive Subfolder of a share directly eg: \\50.60.70.80\Subfolder but I can map \\50.60.70.80.
If i map the \\50.60.70.80, i cannot see any subfoldes which are there and can not access them by typing the path into Win Explorer. I only got an error message that I have no permisson to access the path.

But about 150 other clients using the same credentials can access the share from around the world. Only a couple of clients cannot access this.

Diagnosis policy service error need help

Hello.

Yes I know someone else posted on this, but mine is slightly more uncooperative.

I'm having an issue with my diagnosis policy service. Error 5
Of course that means I can't connect to the Internet, so I had to use another device to ask.

Here are the things I tried already:
Antivirus
Adware cleaner
Changing permissions for DSP
Administrator Command prompt
Fixit

Here are my results
The antivirus woun't pick up anything that would affect the pc in such a way

Adware Cleaner doesn't seem to want to actually remove what it finds
(Annoying mail.ru stuff won't go away, might try manually deleting it)

Permissions turns out to be already on full control

The command prompt did absolutely nothing

Fixit won't run at all.

And after all that the policy service is still refusing to start via error 5

Any other options I should try?

My typing skills have declined and I want to us speech recognition, but can't get the machine to listen to the mic. I have a headset that I have used before on a different machine, and have got it to work to the point that I can hear myself in the earphones, but speech recognition can't hear the mic.

I must be missing something in the setup but can't see what..

Any help would be appreciated.

Win7Explorer thumbnails without repeated creation.

I have numbers of image files on the disk, need to see their content quickly in Explorer, without opening it.
Once created a database when entering a folder on re-entry, then opens quickly, os it has in cache. Until the restart, when once displayed thumbnails are creating again and slowly. Is there a way to set that still does not create a new database? Or is it not erased but the access is slow? I have a fast SSD, it should be faster anyway.
Thanks for any advice on how to speed it up.
