My son was able to keep a Dell laptop that he used in a computing class. He used it for the entire year while learning about Windows 7 and some simple programming. A few months back, he confirmed the key code and reformatted the hard drive.
After a few weeks usage, the invalid copy notice popped up. He consulted his instructor who ended up furnishing another key. Recently, he reformatted again, and gave the laptop to his Mom. She's been using it for two weeks and recently started getting the same notice.
The laptop was donated by a local company who was upgrading as well as the key codes. With the instructor's strong christian beliefs, I can only assume that the key codes are legit.
Short of buying an off the shelf copy, how do I authenticate.
