Random "Certificate is not valid" error

Hey everyone, I have somewhat of a puzzling problem and I'd very much appreciate some leads as to what's causing it.

For the past few months (maybe longer) I've been having spoadic internet connectivity issues. My service is AT&T and I have a 2Wire modem, although I'm not sure that has anything to do with it.

I'm beginning to wonder if it has to do with my browser or a problem with my computer's setup itself. What happens is, multiple times every hour (seemingly at random), no programs can establish a secure internet connection for a couple minutes. Skype calls drop, online games freeze, pages stop loading, that sort of thing.

If I try to open my browser again (Chrome mainly, but it happens on all of them), it tells me that the certificate of the page I'm trying to reach is invalid. My homepage is Google though, so I know that's not true.

I basically have to keep opening and closing my browser until that finally stops coming up and then everything will connect to the internet again.

Considering the large amount of time I spend in Skype calls or Google Plus meetings, this is very infuriating to deal with and nothing I'm finding online about the problem seems relevant. Any ideas?
